Unrelated, but in the mid 1960's my big brother's San Diego rock band went up to LA to cut a few demos. I got to tag along for the weekend. One demo was booked at Western and 2 more at Gold Star Studios. It was like a religious experience knowing that those places were like halls of rock 'n' roll fame. The day my brother's band recorded at Gold Star, "The Kingsmen" had been in earlier recording a demo to play for the A&R guys at Capitol and Liberty Records and the drummer had left his drum kit in the corner of the studio with the Kingsmen band logo on the kick drum. We took pictures like a bunch of Japanese tourists.
I'm never quite sure why they stop in some takes before finishing. Notice how clear and concise these tapes are? How they have "Presence?" MUCH better than putting on your version (LP or whatever) and playing it at home, eh?
