The line about parents not remembering some things they did to their children, and that same thing being crushing weight on the child's mind REALLY has a new sharp edge once your parent dies.
I had a similar experience, and even though I know NOW what a trivial thing it really was, and how she proved a million times that she loved and cared for me . . . I have that strong memory of sobbing myself to sleep, heart-broken at three or four years old.
Please, PLEASE share those memories with your parent! Of course, only if it's emotionally safe to do so. Each of my children has shared at least one such experience with me, and it gave me the chance to acknowledge their perspective and speak to it. It was heartbreaking to hear but I was so overwhelmingly grateful for the opportunity to heal it NOW. Please, speak your truth to someone who loves you, rather than continuing to carry that hurt that was never intentional to begin with. ❤
The way waters taste is just excellent.
I hate it. Like blood
Thank you, Goth Kids!!!
That thing about the sound of an individual silence at 4:45? Totally true. It felt good seeing that; I have very acute hearing and yes, I *can* tell when they don't do this. Bet tons of people can.
To me that is crazy fascinating; I had no idea 😮
I had to remove all ticking clocks from my house many years ago because in moments of silence or trying to go to sleep the ticking, no matter how faint would drive me crazy. Once many years ago me and a coworker were traveling to or from a job site and it was just pouring rain, deafeningly loud on the roof of the van. every time we went under an overpass the silence was almost as loud and I got a zany idea. every time we went under an overpass I would say, "did you hear that?" It nearly drove him crazy and we must have gone under 8 or 10 overpasses before he finally caught on.
Not sure why they're playing instrumental Christmas tunes on a video released in May, but they're pretty nice.
Maybe because Christmas is *not* celebrated on the same date all around the world? I understand that on some Pacific Islands, it is celebrated on May 20, my birthday! From now on, if anyone asked, I might say that I was born on Christmas!
Does anyone celebrate Christmas on May10th?
# 2:29 do none of you own a kettle? Finished me 😂
And, of course, she would receive a Shiba Inu (A Japanese breed) from the President of Japan! I just hope her wasn't too hard to train; they can be a very stubborn breed, indeed! 🥰
What a great collection indeed
23:46: Oof, I wish my hubby and I just had the time to remotely consider doing anything but collapsing in exhaustion during the few times we're not working or fulfilling basic human obligations.
Gotta say, I'm digging the Christmas music.
I read too fast for some of these pauses
Fast forward yo
Every time I see a post about how much Americans have to pay for insulin my brain grinds to a halt over how uncaring the US government is.
and how greedy the corporations are.
Ive just taken my lunch time insulin… I live in New Zealand.. insulin is free.
I wonder if the other Civilised Nations should take the USA to the International Criminal Court over the matter.
"But, your Honour, we can't afford it !" says America, trying to hide the 20 Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carriers behind its back, each costing 13 billion dollars fully loaded.
The US govt is made up of the people for the people by the people. And corporations are faceless entities run by people so basically it is more of a reflection of the attitude and outlook of the people that live in the US.
In the US sickness is a luxury 😣
There are people who want to be arrested so to get free medical attention.
The land of the free? 😂
11:48 - anybody here read Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels? That's Sam Vimes, right there.
"What water tastes like."
I never realized water actually had a smell. I'd read the Zane Grey novels and wonder what they were talking about: "Smelling water on the wind."
And then I moved to Arizona. The first day it rained, I was, "Oh. That's why I never noticed the smell of water before. It's the Background Smell of Seattle."
re. the tea/boiling water/kettle one - I have a "Mini Urn" by Kambrook (Australia) that I never saw in a store, I bought it at Vinnie's (charity shop) and it is the best.damned.thing.I.own. I swear, I put my mug with the teabag in an infuser that hangs over the edge of the mug, under the spout, press the button, and can go off for a minute or so (usually to the loo) and come back to the mug being filled to the correct level, after which I add sugar and milk and it's the best most consistent way I've ever made tea. For reference, the urn can dispense from 150ml to 350ml at a time, and since I use a 400ml mug, the 350ml is just the perfect amount.
oh and Muppet Beauty and the Beast needs.to.happen.
of course water tastes - just try drinking tap water in a place you're not familiar with
As someone who is dependent on insulin, I too am enraged by the price gouging by the pharmaceutical companies who care more about their profits than their customers.
two much time per.
Sterling amounts are expressed precisely the same way as Cape Verde Currency.
Several other countries have done it at least some of the time on currency and postage stamps, including some big ones (countries, that is). eg 17 Livres, 3shillings and 6 pence : 17£ 3'6, or 3 gn 8sh 6d ( 3 pounds 9 shillings and half a crown)
My old person trait is handwriting, everyone should be taught cursive writing. The young people I have met who don't know how to read cursive is appalling. Sometimes In your life you have to SIGN your name not just print it. ( Bank loan etc...)
agree that's exactly what water tastes like.
0:28 - What a cutie!
5:40 - Tell him I like it!
8:28 - This sounds funny for everyone but the pigeons, who found no food that day.
9:45 - Hee-hee! I like this!
15:47 - I've heard that keeping your elbows off the table dates all the way back to the time of the Knights. A guy in armor can cause a lot of damage with his elbws if he's not very careful. knock over the drink of the guy sditting next to him, which leads to a sword fight right there in the dining hall, which leads to...
16:1 - Dogs have been bred for different sizes and other physical attributes for thousands of years. Humans... not so much.
Please, please please, please, pretty please: No Christmas Songs in May.
3:13 Disney's agents should be calling you. Hell, _I'D_ see that movie!
14:33 Funny. I forgot I posted that.
27:52 It is currently 3.05 am
That video run in the background when I was working and suddenly I thought about Christmas. Half an hour in, there it was: Adeste fidelis, which I only know in Latin, in a horrible guitar versrion - I am sorry, I had to turn this off. Back to reading while listening to the radio.
28:20 So at what chronological point do you watch the scene in "Blink" when they're playing the tape?
Insulin is $800 😮
27:13 Not that long, because you can invest all that excess.
Important: all domestic dog breeds are ONE species. Breeds are human created and not species
That would suggest they only came from one species of wolf. I find that hard to believe.
