That’s great! My process is always changing in small ways, you’ll probably find a good method that will start getting you consistent results no matter the leather.
Thank you for sharing this helpful information, the way you are finishing the edges of your goods, that’s why I truly love being on the community of leathercraft, my question is as I noticed you didn’t use any hand burnisher to slick the edges while i have seen over and over almost every use hand burnisher to slick the edges .. I am kind of confused which way should i go with taking care of the edges right now
Thanks for watching. I talk about the wood burnisher in this series, look for the video with the thumbnail that says “Try This”. TLDR: I find the results aren’t as good as using a canvas cloth. Ultimately the wood burnisher is simply a high grit sandpaper. All it’s doing is polishing the edge, I find the canvas cloth does a better job. If your on the fence glue up some leather, finish one side with the burnisher and the other without, see which one you prefer.
Thanks for taking the time to make this series, Justin. They’re very informative. So at what point do you edge bevel? Before starting with the sandpaper?
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it. For me the edge beveling takes place in the prep phase; so prior to what I filmed here. However, I keep on hand because sometimes you may need to knock an edge that has rolled over due to lots of sanding.
Thanks for Watching! Let me know in the comments below what your current edge finishing process is, how does it compare?
Cheers
Justin
Thanks You for good tutorial. Could you tell me how much time do you wait between tokonole dry and do sand paper job?
Thanks, I don’t wait. Apply it to the edge and rub it in evenly. I start sanding right after.
Great tutorial, I've been doing a similar process which is reassuring. A lot more practice and I might catch up one day 😂
