The brainchild of frontman Liam McCormick, The Family Crest began as a recording project in 2009 with co-founder/bassist John Seeterlin. “We always liked making music with people-getting a bunch of people together and singing. So we put ads everywhere,” says McCormick. “We posted on Craigslist and emailed old friends from school.” The outcome was greater than the original duo imagined, with 80 people credited on the first recording the band produced. From that a seven-piece core band emerged, though the Crest boasts over 400 “Extended Family” members.

My friend just sent me this with no context except saying I would like it and I was expecting like a contemporary love song BUT then I heard the horn and was like "oh???" and then the strings and was like "OH???" This whole song was an experience in itself and I am blown away. I was not expecting like a rock ballad + sea shanty + orchestra
If you want something similar to this idea i would highly reccomend checking out Dirt Poor Robins's "The Raven Locks" album you can listen to solemn dream or solemn awakening to get an idea for what you are signing up for if you do that.

Ya know... I really like garage rock metal and some dupstep, but I don't really know.... I heard this song on the radio and sound hounded it. I find myself with this song in my head, and I listen to it so much. It makes me feel something inside, like a happy sadness that reminds me of my memories, and makes me think of positive futures........... I need help

So I have a few theories on the meaning of this song.
It’s about this guy who becomes so engrossed in this woman, who is battling her own inner demons, and I mean full on obsessed. “All of my life given to you sacrificed.” Like to the point where he ignores everyone else for her. But he doesn’t see the problems she faces. She is his “sun” after all. He shares everything with her, including all of his issues, and those only add to her turmoil, hence why she is falling “beneath the brine.”
He may have an idea on what he’s doing, since he says to “stay clear of the wreckage, she goes down,” but the thought of freeing her to benefit her is too much. It’s akin to a ship lost at sea in a storm, where he is the storm and she the ship. “But it cuts like a knife and we’re bound,” is another example of him knowing what he’s doing.
Now all of that could be flipped. She could be the one doing all of this harm, while he sees his tormentor through rose colored glasses. That might make more sense, but “hold yourself beneath the brine” will always bring me back to my first theory.

Back again, and I just realized something that I can't believe I didn't notice before since I often found myself thinking about the meaning behind these lyrics, but it sounds a whole lot like a song about Calypso and Davy Jones. I first heard this tune while watching a clip from Coachella Fest. I live in the area, and was watching music clips. Beneath The Brine blew me out of the water! I almost cried. This is coming to your eyes from a 60 year old gramma (who likes hard rock, alternative and dub step, lol)
