I was staying at an uncles extra house and the living room looked like a different shape inside than outside. Then I figured out that behind one of the bookcases was a sauna room and that there’s a trap door under a carpet that leads to an underground stone wine cellar.
I found a secret room in my house and it was a bedroom with clothes pictures and other of personal items it turns out the people who lived there before me was a mother and child and the child died and she was to sad to look at her child's room so she had some one block it off
I used to live in an old apartment and I explored it and found a secret tunnel in our back porch, my parents wouldn't let me go in for safety reasons but it was really cool to know that there was a mystery to my old home!
There’s actually a sub-basement beneath my basement. We had removed the tile to put down a new carpet, and we found a hatch that led down a narrow step ladder. There’s about a seven foot difference between the ceiling of the sub-basement and the floor of the basement. It has a cylindrical shale almost like a tunnel, not too long. We actually found an old cross so we assumed it was a private chapel.
Alot of houses have "hidden rooms" that aren't really meant to be hidden. People will finish a room, wall it off completely as to avoid the up charge in their taxes. Then they never need the space enough to open the wall back up, eventually they move out. The room doesn't count in the sq foot you buy. Then your repair man finds it working in the ducts 10 years later
Up charge for tax reasons?. I understand what you mean, I think, but wouldn’t the home when it was originally built, be in public records already. Maybe because the town I live in has mostly reasonable taxes, I can’t even imagine me in front of the city board trying to lower my taxes because I shortened a room. Don’t get mad if I didn’t “get” what you were implying too. I like to respectfully question interesting stuff. I was thinking mobsters, prohibitions, maybe drug dealing. It would be something fun for my kids to have a hidden playroom. Then I’m thinking, oh no creepy thoughts like kidnapping.
I'd love to build a big house with a central access shaft (girder enforced ladder corridor) that branched off to other concealed room entry points on floors. Perfect way to engineer a safe room as well.
A few months ago when I was in the market to purchase a home, my realtor and I went into a bedroom upstairs at a home that was 90 years old and when he leaned on a bookcase attached to the wall it actually opened to a secret room. We were both stunned not to mention in the other room room we found we found a very small door that led to another room! Needless to say I got outbidded on the house.
My grandparents own an old Victorian house. As a child I'd explore the house with my siblings and cousins. Sometimes we'd play Secret Agent in old unused rooms. However one day while in the attic we discovered a hidden room not even our grandparents knew about. From what we found in the room it was more than likely the safe haven of a Jewish family during WWII when the Nazi were killing them. We found an old Jewish Bible (I think my grandma called it a Torah), one of those Jewish caps worn during Passover and a gold Star of David necklace.
Depending on where these houses were and how old they are, it could have been part of the Underground Railroad or shelter for families during the Nazi regime
in England, there are a lot of those rooms from the time the country transitioned from Catholic to Protestantism. They had hiding spaces for Catholic priests and even small chapels to hold their services.
Kinda freaks me out a bit, a fully wallpapered room with a working lightswitch and bulb still in, but closed off from the world, why would it be closed off like that?
We actually _MADE a “hidden room_ “ in our house. We remodeled one of our small bedrooms, and made it into a large bathroom. So, one of the things we did was wall-off the good sized closet that had been in that bedroom . The wall that covered up the closet now looks like any other wall in our house. Someone would have to literally tear down that wall to find it. Before we boarded up that closet I wish I would have thrown a few things into that closet-making it into a sort of time capsule! Oh well... To quote my grandma: *_If wishes were horses, beggars would ride._*
Sometimes people will block off rooms in their home to lower the square footage and Pay Less in taxes after the tax assessor comes through and reassesses the homes square footage
Exactly. Back when i did custom home buildings we would do that then when the people move in they would have us come back and finish it. Usually like a giant space over the garage.
There is a tunnel under my house on Washington Street in Midland TX that goes all the way over to the old Loop 250 truck stop. That's where the tunnel ends. Of course it's just a vacant lot now but if you poke around in the ground you can see where I came up through it. I had a steel plate made to keep people from coming into my house, because they came up the tunnel through the wall and into the Attic
My friend found a secret room within a secret room. When they moved in they saw a bookshelf in the closet, which is a weird place for a book shelf and sure enough it was a room. A few years later they noticed very thin lines in the ceiling of a random concrete room in their house that looked like it was a patio but they made it into a room, so they messed around where the odd lines were and eventually stairs fell through the ceiling (no idea why the stairs were covered with ceiling tiles)and it was just a room up there, nothing in it, it connected too the bookshelf room
Years ago a house on my block was raided by the DEA. The informant told the SWAT team that in the basement was a built-in book shelf that was actually a door to a secret room where they hid the drugs. When SWAT went in sure enough the secret room was right where the informant said it was including the drugs. Months later the police auctioned the house and all its contents. The new owners decided to get the original blueprints from the county thinking there might be more hidden in the house. Sure enough the blueprints showed the basement was bigger then it looked. The found a small door in the previously found hidden room leading to a smaller room, roughly the size of a small bathroom. In the small room was meth, cash, and guns.
I found a secret ‘area’ behind a closet in my old house. Behind the wall, there were women’s clothes, shoes, and 2 wigs. Covered in dust & probably from the 30’s/40’s. I discovered it when I was unscrewing a coat hook that was attached to a panel that was removable & there was a knob and it opened up.
A woman who lived there were probably an actress, u are lucky, keep it and do some research on it, u may just found old clothes worth million dollars!👍😊
I found a hidden room in a house I was working in. The home owner had lived there for 20+ years and had no clue. it was carpeted and had 2 small couches in it that only could have fit in the room during construction. It was definitely cool.
Very creepy to me why these rooms were sealed off making me think something bad happened in them. They could have been what's known as a disappointment room which is where people would keep a child with special needs or deformed from the rest of the family and the world very sad but true look it up. If not that the other thing that came to mind is that it was a room used to hide slaves on their journey to freedom but still why would the rooms be completely walled off. The last one the dungeon is the perfect apartment for a total psycho lol
I'm guessing some of those rooms were just used for growing pot. Maybe some of them were hidden drug dens where junkies went to use drugs without worrying about getting caught. Maybe some of them were used to make drugs, such as crack or meth etc. Maybe they just got sealed up because the rooms weren't legally built, so they hid them to pass building inspections. There's so many possibilities.
My grandmother in her old house had like half of her roof hidden away and i always wondered what was behind it...it was a victorian home, and outside we had like a little old house within the stables that used to be a doctors work place with loads of old medecin bottles etc, and apparently the people blocked the room in the attic off because it was to much extra space, we also discovered that in the corridor where there were creaky floorbords there was a hidden wineseller that had been carpeted over...
Is there any reason you gothrough all he effort of describing the videos before you play them? It's like having someone give you a a detailed sumary of a movie right before you sit down to watch it. Quite redundant, don't you think?
Some of the hidden rooms were probably originally servant's rooms and had to be closed up because they did not meet the modern fire code. The fire code requires that any room intended for residence has two escape routes (usually a door and a window) . Also after WWI and WWII people found it hard to hire live in domestic help, and the room could not be rented (fire code again) it made sense to close it off to save on heating bills after central air/heat was introduced. Fire code violations can carry some whopping fines.
I'm going to have a whole underground lair on my property. It's gonna be my Armory/Safe Room/Smoking Room. No kids allowed. They're not even allowed to know about it. Only accessible through a secret door/slide disguised as a section of a hallway and a secret elevator in the Master suite, both requiring biometrics.
Most aren't rooms, there spaces walled off from existing rooms (ceiling roof is too low, etc. Likely because of taxes, and limiting the rooms/ square footage Uncle Sugar, or Johnny Bull can tax you on.
i have always wanted to find a secret room in my house since i was a child. My friends and i have looked many times but i have come to the realization...there is no secret room. That said, if there was and i found it, even a tiny broom closet, i would thoroughly examine every aspect of it and hope it could be used as a second full size bathroom.
Pretty new wiring for a secret room. I know a few people who sold houses with these hidden attic rooms. They usually do it because the room is actually attic space that is improperly finished and wouldn't pass an inspection so they just block it off. Now on a side note my brother bought a house their was a huge hole in the living room ceiling because they person who lived there before was wanted and hid from the police in their own house. The had partially finished the attic and were living in a hide room up there. They ended up falling through into the living room.
No.4 check for DNA evidence No.3 Check for DNA evidence No.2 why did the guy go knocking on all the walls in his home in the first place? No.1 was no surprise at all. It’s a utility access and just because the apartment dweller didn’t know about it doesn’t make it creepy. You can see modern wiring in the vid.
I was thinking about that with the guy who owned just an apartment. Like you're paying for a 1 floor apartment but you get a full on basement also, I would of lowkey ordered some dry wall, some stitch sealing tape, molding plaster, compound cement, carpet, paint, some base floor frames, and then decked out that entire hidden area. Being he easily could of made 2 or 3 more rooms out of that space. Given it was the size of his apartment and his neighbors put together. Instead he exposed himself. Some people can't count their blessings. They have to tell the world everything.
The second one, how he turned the hidden room into a cool place for his son is creepy, because when I was younger I used to have a re accruing dream about a room and door that looked EXACTLY like that. And it was always a dream that had a weird, creepy vibe to it.
I have a secret room in my house. There’s a big space next to my bonus room that is over the garage in my house but when my house was build in 2004-06 they didn’t add a extra room.
You should probably call the CDC or the fire department to make sure the room is safe just make sure that that room wasn't used to cure your victims of typhoid or some other deadly disease Maybe asbestos... especially in the older homes
When we moved in to our house In my room I noticed a tatty door at the back. I opened it and there was a really small room like you could hardly spread your arms out. We put a better door on it and some bars to hang clothes so I now have a built in wardrobe 😅.
Gabby Smith like what if it got closed off because of the person getting caught and going to jail. The mother or other person found out. And covered it because they didn't want to reminder what their s/o did. So they closed it up and moved away
After hearing the stories of people like Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight, Georgina DeJesus, Elizabeth Fritzl, Colleen Stan, Jaycee Dugard, Elizabeth Smart, Natasha Kampusch, etc., it became disconcertingly crystal clear that this sort of horrible thing happens waaaay more frequently than I could ever have imagined. You tell yourself it's just a terrible one-off and it won't happen to you or your loved ones... which is probably exactly what each of those women and their respective families thought too. It's a terrifying eye-opener, that's for sure...
Cluster Universe my basement is my secret room, my granddad built my house and my uncle dug part of a basement untill it became too dangerous, I only recently found it was there, the entrance was outside
This kind of thing freaks me out because one of my recurring dreams/nightmares has to do with finding secret rooms, and demons inside of the secret rooms. If I ever buy a house some day, I will be calling Mike Holmes to check EVERYTHING. LOL
My family’s house was built in 1919, around the “Homestead Homes Act” timeframe & in that same general area. My family & I didn’t move into the house until the early 2,000’s. However, we were the home’s first to find a “secret room” in the house. Whoever had made this very long secret room had the walls completely sealed off & they had also added excessive decorative details on the outside of the walls. Unfortunately, upon opening/unsealing the secret passageway, nothing incredibly fun was found inside🤷🏻♀️. The secret room DID connect 2 of the house’s rooms together in a very weird & maze like manner! The flooring was/still is extremely rickety!! Not safe for much exploration there!! The only thing of note, really, was an extremely old (falling apart), child’s school desk, along with a few falling apart pieces of books. Our property also contains a “cellar” which goes quite deep underground!! But, spiders & snakes seem to have overtaken it!! I mainly only remember lots of very old canned foods being down there. About 90% of our property is covered by acres & acres of thick woods, but I’d absolutely LOVE to check certain places out further!!! You never know what’s actually there until you check it out!!
I have a hidden room in my house. It is in my brothers room. We have very thin drywall walls that we broke through accidentally. Weird. But what was weirder is there is a old mattress that looks really beat up and a chair. It’s weird but we kept it all walled off
NoVa Kix In my child hood home (which I don't own anymore ) there was a unfinished 2nd part of a attic the first part if you go to far you will fall thru the floor . Had a crawl space In the basement that led to the backroom And a small door in one of the bedrooms where a small child or midget could hide in
My wife's cousins bought a house in NW Houston, and discovered a "secret" room up in the attic. It completely hidden, exactly, but it was out of the way up in the unfinished attic and difficult to get to. But... inside it was a finished room that had ducts to the A/C (presently shut off), paneled in wood with rifle racks, lots of pegs for displaying about 18 pistols, and a work bench that I'm pretty sure had the marks on it where a tabletop ammo reloader had been fastened. The door to the room is pretty sturdy and has a good lock on it. There's nothing creepy about the space, really, but it's obvious that the previous owner must have had a LOT of guns up there, even by Texas standards.
Yup, especially the last one where it's an apartment and you can see new wire's run through there so obviously the apartment owner knows it's there. The others mostly hidden not to cause issue when selling the property as it's not a space built to code and letting it be known can be more hassle then it's worth. I have been considering popping a hole in a wall that shares the garage roof line (I already have access with stairs that fold down in the garage but it would be nice to access the space without having to go into the garage.
Back in my aunts old house she lived in a building that looked like a part of a castle in Ohio and on the top was a place to live and under it was a Mexican restaurant and in the basement of the whole thing their was a huge rail road leading all the way to Canada that was used for slaves to try and escape but it was pretty creepy down their one time we found a bear with its head ripped off tape on it and it looked like it had blood stains on it
KING OBEY 300 DUDE you are sooooo dumb, I know you are referring to the underground railroad but IT ISN'T ACTUALLY AN UNDERGROUND RAILROAD GO BACK TO 5th grade
"Top 5 strangest secret rooms" Except for the first which isnt a room. 2, 3, and 4 have nothing strange about them. And the last is just an old crawlspace.
It's a shame you didn't get a little more information about these rooms. It's interesting to find them and hopefully nothing weird went on. Extra space is usually a good thing.
If I found a secret door I would just keep it for myself so nobody in my family can just Bargin because that’s what happened and I really do not like it
I really like the idea of having a secret room, hidden from everybody else. Just to keep little secrets or weird things I like to do without telling anyone.
Some rooms from houses dated very old could have been covered up really good because they could’ve been a “dissapoinment room” for kids with disabilities who were considered disappointments so they were locked in secret rooms away from the rest of the family with barely and food and water left until they die 😢
My aunt and uncle’s house has a secret room. In my aunt’s closet there is this door that leads upstairs and into a hallway with like 4 rooms. Well, in one of the rooms there are these bookshelves thingies and one of them slides open.
I would suggest that any hidden rooms that are next to a chimney or heat ducting be checked for leakage. My ex’s grandmother had a room that was latter blocked off. It leaked carbon monoxide that ended up causing her son to have brain damage. My ex and I had a cape cod and could have had a extra room with low ceilings. We chose not to expand in that direction to save on energy. Instead we expanded over the garage for a larger room. I loved that cape cod.
I was staying at an uncles extra house and the living room looked like a different shape inside than outside. Then I figured out that behind one of the bookcases was a sauna room and that there’s a trap door under a carpet that leads to an underground stone wine cellar.

The second one, how he turned the hidden room into a cool place for his son is creepy, because when I was younger I used to have a re accruing dream about a room and door that looked EXACTLY like that. And it was always a dream that had a weird, creepy vibe to it.
You cut a hole in the wall and crawl through it then you realize it’s just the space in between walls that holds the fiber glass
Richard Stecher i
Well...it's not a secret again when you show it to public...

When we moved in to our house In my room I noticed a tatty door at the back. I opened it and there was a really small room like you could hardly spread your arms out. We put a better door on it and some bars to hang clothes so I now have a built in wardrobe 😅.
Susie Wolf... Erm, It was a cupboard!
If I found a secret room in my house, I'd be disappointed if it wasn't filled with cash and valuables
I’m really wondering if those hidden rooms were used to lock up children who were abducted..
Jessica D. Are abused
Exactly what I thought about the room at 5:50 in the attic.

If I had a secret room I will turn it into a room filled with fandoms. And shrines. And.... you get it

Astral oh God

Number threes house might have belonged to a kidnapper
And that's why they needed the secret room to hide the kidnapping children
Gabby Smith thats excatly what i was thinking. Glad i wasnt the only one who caught that
Gabby Smith like what if it got closed off because of the person getting caught and going to jail.
"I checked my house over 100 times, there is no secret room except for the one in the basement."
Cluster Universe my basement is my secret room, my granddad built my house and my uncle dug part of a basement untill it became too dangerous, I only recently found it was there, the entrance was outside
Way before I was born my parents noticed the outside looked a lot bigger than the inside so they used an axe to remove the wall
I would eat chicken nuggets in the secret room
If I found a secret room I would turn it into a safe room for somewhere to go if someone would break in to my house.
But if has ghost then its not very safe 📞👻🚫
robert spicer um 😐 are you a kidnapper or robber
robert spicer oh or are you a police 🚔 or firefighter
Good idea with a minor adjustment. I would keep the room for a place to bury someone if they broke into my house.

7:57 goes down there sees neighbor with a bunch of captives "Morning Phil" lol
My house was build 100 years ago I found a note in it that was written by a boy from the 1965 OMG
Mine is 106 years old
I’d use it to play the best hide and seek and to get away from people also my new room

I have a hidden room in my house. It is in my brothers room. We have very thin drywall walls that we broke through accidentally. Weird. But what was weirder is there is a old mattress that looks really beat up and a chair. It’s weird but we kept it all walled off
why wall it off If I saw that I would renevat it plus more space.
Put it on you youtube channel

In my child hood home (which I don't own anymore ) there was a unfinished 2nd part of a attic the first part if you go to far you will fall thru the floor .
Had a crawl space In the basement that led to the backroom
And a small door in one of the bedrooms where a small child or midget could hide in
NoVa Kix ok
I WOULD TURN THAT SECRET ROOM INTO CLUBHIUSE XD
Gangsters paradise haha
Coolio comin 4 his $$$😂
Crawl spaces are nothing new
Nathan Robinson ok
Yup, especially the last one where it's an apartment and you can see new wire's run through there so obviously the apartment owner knows it's there. The others mostly hidden not to cause issue when selling the property as it's not a space built to code and letting it be known can be more hassle then it's worth. I have been considering popping a hole in a wall that shares the garage roof line (I already have access with stairs that fold down in the garage but it would be nice to access the space without having to go into the garage.
Nathan Robinson did anyone saw it was something new?
I would keep a secret room to myself

I found a secret room, no wait, it's my neighbor's living room. My house is so tiny

It's a shame you didn't get a little more information about these rooms. It's interesting to find them and hopefully nothing weird went on. Extra space is usually a good thing.

Some rooms from houses dated very old could have been covered up really good because they could’ve been a “dissapoinment room” for kids with disabilities who were considered disappointments so they were locked in secret rooms away from the rest of the family with barely and food and water left until they die 😢
I would explore it and see what's inside
My aunt and uncle’s house has a secret room. In my aunt’s closet there is this door that leads upstairs and into a hallway with like 4 rooms. Well, in one of the rooms there are these bookshelves thingies and one of them slides open.
Cool
Have you gone inside?

I would suggest that any hidden rooms that are next to a chimney or heat ducting be checked for leakage. My ex’s grandmother had a room that was latter blocked off. It leaked carbon monoxide that ended up causing her son to have brain damage. My ex and I had a cape cod and could have had a extra room with low ceilings. We chose not to expand in that direction to save on energy. Instead we expanded over the garage for a larger room. I loved that cape cod.
