Lately, the wine industry has been complaining that they are not doing so well. WIne sales are down and the industry as a whole is hurting. Here is my take as a wine consumer and someone who reviews wine on social media. Straight out I call BS to it all. When and industry is hurting for business they start sales...real sales and not buy a case of wine at $40 a piece which is a lot higher than you would buy at say Total Wines and get free shipping. The "hurting" industry often charges more to ship a wine than the wine itself costs. If sales are going down, why are prices going up? Why are the wineries not doing something to entice customers to buy wine? Giving me a supposed sale on a wine and overcharging for shipping is simply overcharging for that product in general. What I mean is, if a bottle of wine costs $10 to ship but you charge $25, that extra money is profit and profiit is profit, it doesn't matter how you get it. As far as the younger generation not drinking wine goes, it is not the younger generation who has the money to drink it. Many companies have realized what I am saying and opened buisnesses in the way of "wine clubs". These clubs sometimes get the very same juice that cost $50 at a winery but sell them for $20. One club, Naked WInes even has the very same iconic winemakers such as Matt Parish of Stags Leap (and others) fame making wine for them but at a fraction of a cost to the consumer. Anyway, I have gone on too long here, thanks fo rthe video, I enjoyed it :) One last thing, I am not a big believer in opinion polls or statistics as in this day and age I believe they are all skewed, I believe what I see, that is reality.
So great to see you again, best wishes to you for health being better forward on. I think Bordeaux 2023 was very interesting. I did not go for the 1st’s but rather some of the name worthy and high ranked ones like Canon, Smith Haut Lafitte (red and white), Les Carmes and Montrose. With that in the cellar for 10-25 years I think this year was a great opportunity even if I wished the prices were even lower. But I would expect further price adjustments and also in other countries as mentioned by other commenters here previously.
Welcome back, you were missed! I was in the wine trade all my working life and your experience and honesty of where the wine has been and is, is refreshing! Keep healthy and keep posting!
I have to say something about the wine business. I am no wine professional but collect wine for over 30 years now. I remember a time in the early 90s when Cognac nearly broke down and many wine makers in Germany and France shut down their winery and much money was paid in the south of France for people stopping making wine. I grew up in a village of winemakers, today only one big winery is left. I think what you say about the business is complete right. But for us Europeans, that's really not the first crisis. Cheers!!
the chardonnay is probably more to your liking at $10 because at that price point they cant overdue it with Oak and time on lees. Always nice to find a wine you like at a great price
The futures market is a joke. Wine is meant to be drunk it should not be a commodity. The Bordeaux houses were basing their en premier prices on market values, and guess what, buying en premier became really bad value! Now loyal customers have been stung and stung badly. Why would I try this system when it cannot be trusted!
Great summary as always. People not buying Bordeaux - what a surprise. The prices are completely ridiculous. I can buy a great Spanish wine for one fifth of the price of a Bordeaux. The market is readjusting and French wines like Bordeaux have to come to terms with that. France is not the world of wine anymore.
It’s good to see Bordeaux prices going down, but they still need to go down further. Napa has not course corrected at all and most wineries have continued to increase prices 😢. I am no longer supporting Napa wines with those huge increases.
Wine market going down is good news for consumers. Let the best producers get our money as so many producers still mass produce. Seeing 20 to 30 grains per grape is way too much!
Welcome back!!!
Welcome back, good to see new video.

Welcome back. I always enjoy hearing your commentary on the state of the wine industry. It's something other wine channels normally don't do.
Welcome back! Love your thoughts on Bordeaux. Enjoy in good health

I don't care if alcool is healthy. A wonderful evening with friends, nice food and great wine is worth dying sooner 🙂.

Burgundy still rocking if I’m not mistaken. That economic bubble is far dangerous
@@MrJcalvino I still love French wine despite my mini-rant.
Interesting and informative.
