Is Russia militarizing the Arctic? Former Norwegian ambassador to the United States Kåre R. Aas says, "They are modernizing their military forces and capabilities on the Kola Peninsula. They have one of the most modernized strategic and nuclear submarines very close to Norway. These Russian forces, they are not there...because of Norway, but they have a bigger strategic ambition. And that, I would say, is mainly the strategic competition between Russia and the United States."
