CROUSE HINDS bought by TCT in 1982. TCT bought out by PEEK TRAFFIC in 1991. PEEK in turn sold it's traffic control line to FORTRAN LTD. of CANADA in 2011. Those are ALUMINUM MTS (MCCAIN) VISORS

That is incorrect. Polycarbonate Fortrans housings are slightly different and started production in 1988.

There are alot of manufacturers for these lights. The "lights" or balls as they are known in the industry, are now an LED/incandescent sealed unit . So the lens and bulbs are one unit with two wires coming out of them

I’ve noticed that a lot of traffic lights still use incandescent lamps in the yellow (amber) lights today, which makes some sense, considering that they are more inexpensive, and are used less.

I usually see incandescents in the yellow section of older traffic lights that were installed before LEDs became the standard. Newer traffic lights installations will be all LED. But you are right, it's kind of unnecessary to replace the incandescent with a yellow LED, because since the yellow is turned on for a total of mere minutes per day, it would take forever for the energy savings to recoup the costs of purchasing and installing it.
Ironically yellow LED modules tend to draw slightly more watts than red or green LEDs, mostly because a yellow LED chip requires more current to get as bright as a red or green LED chip. But again, the higher wattage doesn't really matter because the yellow LED module is on mere seconds at a time.

And they also figured that when the incandescent bulb burns out, that would be a good time for signal maintenance.

What do they do with ones that have the strobe running through the center of the red light? Do you have any in your collection?

I've actually been trying to get my hands on one, they are difficult to come across unfortunately. The first versions used a Xenon strobe tube across the lens, while the later version just uses white LED's. If anybody wants to donate one... let me know :)

Hey. I know this isn't really related to the video. But this is something I've wanted to tell you for a long time. Watching one of your videos from well over 10 years ago. I noticed you used a song by a Canadian prog rock band called Rush called The Spirit of Radio. I remember watching that video and listening to that song I thought. Damn. The lights in Memphis used to look weird. They were big and clunky and the light would seem to disappear when driving under. It was like those big thick glasses people wore in the 70s

Matt Smith Yep! You are right. Being a spur of the moment video, I thought it was but didn’t want to say it, possibly be wrong and look like an idiot. Lol. Chappell Hill makes a very similar version of these also, but they are pretty cheaply made.

Charlie Davidson, Exactly. Chapel Hill does have a very similar mold and I would guess the initials CH were no mistake. I have one of their 8" poly signals and it is the only 8" signal that I have seen with two latches per door. It sadly needs both due to quality, so you called it. Thanks for the video!
