You’re right on the money about Wessex and Mack Brass coming from the same factory. The company that makes these horns is the Chinese company Jinbao. Jinbao has really upped their quality in the past few years and distributors like Mack Brass and Wessex have been able to build a successful business model from it. I’m not sure about Wessex, but the people at Mack Brass will make small tweaks to the instruments if needed. Either way, these Chinese instruments are solid products for a remarkably affordable price.
Awesome! It's so cool that we're getting better and better affordable instruments these days. It has potential to music more accessible to aspiring students, which is totally awesome.

Thanks for this video, you sound great! I'm a trombone player who has wanted to learn to play the french horn for a long time. Do you still recommend this horn?
Thanks! Yes I do recommend it, however there are other great options as well, especially on the used market. Holton, Yamaha, or Conn 6D/7D are great choices, but the Wessex is great too
Thank you so much! I'm using a Blue Yeti usb mic directly into my iphone. It's my only microphone these days but it's fantastic and I'm very happy with it
@@andrewstump6138where is your mic placement? I’ve experimented with behind or in front of bell in both dry and boomy rooms but haven’t found the sweet spot yet
Hello Andrew! I’m looking into getting the fh 611 but I’m still not fully convinced if it’s my best option. I’m looking for a horn that I can teach with as I am an educator. How has your horn hold up currently??
That’s great! I think the Wessex is an excellent choice especially if you are not in need of a fully professional instrument. I’m still really enjoying the Wessex, it plays great and sounds great, although it does have some intonation issues, and the low register is a little woofy, although I’m really nitpicking here. I would recommend looking at the used market as well, brands such as Holton, Conn, and Yamaha are ones you almost can’t go wrong with, but I do honestly think the Wessex would also be a solid choice for teaching purposes. Good luck to you!
Yeah totally! I'm very very curious about that triple horn, it looks like a compensating triple, very cool. And yes, I think this double would be an excellent starter horn👍
Glad to hear it! Welcome to the horn squad!! And yes, I would highly recommend this horn especially if you’re on a tight budget. I will say there are other great options out there as well from name brands, such as Yamaha, Holton, and Hans Hoyer, but the Wessex horn is an excellent choice

The Wessex site claims offering a triple horn for roughly $4k!?! And for the low prices (
