soul calibur really needs some love. SC6 is a mess with wonky hitboxes, vertical tracking, walkable horizontals. this game doesnt respect it own rules. also the ce and powerup things are just annoying. hopefully the next will be a blast
I have to say as a kid growing up in the 80s …me and the boys would always hit the arcades southside Pittsburgh and I would always run it as some TEKKEN… always hands down my fav fighting game. Never disappoints. Thanks for the memories then and as always now
I am a perpetual beginner. Tekken 3 was my first fighting game, and one of the first games I ever played. Since then I've gotten most of the Tekken games out of nostalgia more than anything else as I don't typically play much of any fighting game, but I get every Tekken and spend a few months with it before moving on. I enjoy them, but fighting games are generally not for me. Saying all of that, I am not an expert at all, however I have found Tekken 8 super easy to pick up compared to the others. Playing as the new character Reina, it was amazing to me how intuitive she is to play. Just a bit of button mashing, and a few looks at the move list and I was able to start stringing together combos and it made me feel like I was good at the game. I can see myself sticking with Tekken 8 much longer than the others. I may even get into online this time around. TLDR: BUY THIS FUCKIN GAME RIGHT NOW!
The easiest way to get good is to watch pro players play and then imitate the moves they do. It's much more fun than sitting in practice mode for hours, at least to me. That's how I picked up Marduk in Tekken 7 and got to gold ranks in a month. 😂
I honestly enjoy the "easy " control settings you can turn on and off. It makes the skill gap between friends who just want to have friendly comp, and lets you feel competent at the game without dumping hours into game play. Haven't mainlined many fighters but I enjoy goofing around in practice and the arcade/story is a challenge. I've been on the fence about buying sfvi for a while, but this was a no-sell for me. Plus I wanted to try out my new hitbox and aracde stick lol
I was a huge fan of Tekken 3. I haven't really touched the series since. I've been itching to suck at fighting games again and this one may help scratch it.
Same tekken 3 was the best. I played 4 but it was awful. Played the demo of this and it seemed easy. I'm not sure if it can be made difficult though. Maybe play the demo

Sounds like the perfect recipe to become that old stale boomer who is stuck in the past and complains about anything new. You probably are already him. Also why would it ruin his experience ? I didn't like Tekken 4 but did playing it ruin my Tekken 3 experience ? Nope. Memories don't work that way. If you let something new "ruin your experience" you must get upset real easily.
@@Gatorade69 What you getting so irritated for mate? 😅 It's all good. From my experiences when I relive a remaster or new version of a childhood memory it has not once held up to it and has partially ruined the memory. I think yours is a fair perspective as well, good to get both sides.
PS I would recommend getting the demo as it sealed it for me. Sure it's probably a great game but for me personally it was best to keep it a memory, you might like it though 👌
I felt completely let down when I bought tekken 7… as someone who LOVED tekken 3 and played every game since… to pay however much money for tekken 7 to be greeted by shitty little slide shows rather than proper cinematics completely ruined the series for me. Maybe they added more content as I played 7 at release… but it really hurt me as a fan… I used to love doing arcade mode as every single character to get the cool cinematic ending for each person. Feel like 7 was a complete let down.
I love Tekken but im still holding my breath for the GOAT, none other than soul calibur. While other fighting games strip their system down to frame counting and every character plays virtually the same, tekken and soul calibur have more depth than all the rest combined.
I am doing the same. Soul calibur had the deepest and most skill based fighting system of all fighters. Dragon ball fighter z was my complete checkout point. Frame counting and generic play style is just lame. I remember in soul calibur 4 playing with a friend and discovering special counters with Siegfried. Nothing beats a good soul calibur game.
Tekken 8 is my first Tekken, after having a gamers block for the past month or so, Tekken has brought me back to actually enjoying gaming. That brings me to ask you I’ve been trying to get into Hwoarang but honestly I just can’t really get to like the character or even be good with him at least, any tips?
@@eduardosalgado6378Hwoarang and Jin were my favorite in TK4. My first was TK3 though. PlayStation 2 era. I was around 6yrs old back then. 0:45 they arn't complex. And im kinda tired of people perpetuating this nonsense. Its very easy to pick a character, learn a couple moves, and go into a match to play. They are complex as you want them to be. You wana just mash with friends there is nothing complex about that. You wana go online? not complex either considering you fight people around your skill. Finished the story and having a lot of fun with it, I hope they add (unless I missed it) the mode where you fight in like beat-‘em-up stages against groups of enemies
I think it would be nice to have branching storylines that if done right unlock a tekken force segment for each character with some being harder to find than others
Thing that kills fighting games for me is that I don't think they're worth $70 but if I wait til it's on sale the casuals will all be gone and I'll get smashed online, played the Tekken 8 demo and the CPU was easy even on ultra hard so don't think offline play is enough to keep me entertained for long
That's the issue with every fighting game. It's not worth the price at launch, but then buying it $20 down the road all you find online is tryhards. So in reality, unless a fighting game has good single player, it will always be destined to be die.
Tekken 8 actually does simplify things, but in a smart way You can use single-command their extensions instead of memorizing long commands for chain throws, or if you do/did it in previous games - you can apply the harder input to squeeze extra damage Throw breaks are now shown in move list, basic throws are still easy to break since Tekken 7 Instant run input seems to be much easier Reina - one of the more/most complex characters in the series, has simplified inputs for wavedash, but keeps the true Mishima-style inputs and adds fancy electric sparks to her feet if you use the harder input This new special style can be toggled midfight, turning the controls more akin to spectacle-fighter games/brawlers with one button(can be chained with itself and others+directions) for attacks, one for juggles one for throws and do on The move list shows a lot more details about moves and previously hidden extensions/special inputs/extra descriptions etc. Frame data is there too, along with pretty good screen for move nuances Arcade Quest is basically a tutorial with shitty/cheesy story(the good stuff is in main story mode) Game is hard AF, more could be done, don't get me wrong, but it's a lot more beginner-friendly now
I have been gaming for over 30 years now😅 but i wish i could enjoy fighting games! But I can’t keep the combos in my head😅 my brain just blacks out when playing.. looks incredible! But i gave up ever getting good at these games. I hope everyone enjoys them!
I'm having fun just watching the pro scene since 2017, haven't played tekken since t3 and also retired gaming since 2016 from being a gamer a 3rd of my life. still having fun as an spectator 😂
I might be poor, but I don't get why people get excited about a "new game" that has the same characters, the same animations, pretty much the same combat system except now it's even more casual, for a full price tag of $70. I don't get it; it's the same game with higher poly models. Your paid dlc in previous iterations of the same game aren't even retroactive.
As someone who isn't big on online pvp fighting games. I am enjoying the story of the arcade quest mode. Unlocking ALL of the cosmetics in game i've seen is by completing challenges which is nice. There's an easy mode that helps do things like certain combos if you don't know the characters and want to enjoy the main storyline. Individual stories with each character too. Practice modes have really cool save states and ways to save replays of fights you can go back into.
Tekken 8 HAS actually simplified a lot of complex things, for example, commands. What used to be a Half Circle command is now probably the simple press of a few buttons
haven't played since t3 and have called the game quits back in 2016, just fun watching tekken tournaments now. excited what good ass tekken we will have in this game
My father was a cruel man, he used to beat me up and insult me, he used to tell me "you're weak, you'll never make it in life", he said "if you ever by some miracle made it in life i'll give you something you'll never dream of" .. i grew up and worked hard to better myself, i went to college and majored in software engineering, got my degree and started my own software company, bought a house and started a family. One day i hear the doorbell ring, i open the door and it's my father, i was shocked, "you made it son" he said, "now you are ready" .. i stood in there in silence, my father said with a smile on his face: "now i'm gonna give what i promised" i said in excitement "i've been waiting for this my whole life, what is it father?" he took a deep breath and said: "I'm gonna give you some straight up gameplay and my first impressions of the latest games releasing"
The absolute craziest thing for me is you commenting on the rocket fish and I said a long time ago (tag tournament 2ish I’m 30) I said if they add a gun fish for Akuma or Panda (Hwoarang main) I’m running from this game. Yet here I am, running right back to it lol
The addition of tekken ball immediately reminded me of the tekken 3 beat em up mode. I don't recall if it was actually good, but I really loved it as a kid
It’s hard because of the button input for combos. 1. It isn’t like smash bros where you press a button and the character immediately attacks. 2. In Tekken it’s more of a “programmed input” where you press ALL buttons in a combo and then watch the character do the combo. 3. If YOU DO NOT quickly press all the buttons in the combo, then you’ll get that single punch or single kick button reaction like in smash bros. It really is an action game under the guise of a fighter.

That's so weird, I was able to play Tekken online last night on PC, hope they fix the issue for other people this has the potential to pop off at EVO and everything
It was working for just over an hour on launch then had a network problem for a couple of hours I think around 3-4 hours after the online mode was working perfectly and has been since now
I'm actually surprised they launched the game with both cross-play and rollback together. Some fighting games launched either have only one or the other or add them post launch months after but not both. MK1 doesn't even have both and it's fairly new although there was news that it will add cross-play this year. I'm glad SF6 and Tekken8 launched with both of these. Hopefully this will become a sort of a standard for upcoming new fighting games.
Been a fighting game fan for 13 years. Played mostly 2D fighters (mainly MK) and have virtually zero Tekken experience outside of once every few years at an arcade. Tekken 8 is so far the most fun I’ve had in a fighting game in a really long time. It is indeed complex, but extremely accessible and easy to learn enough to have fun. The nuance and variety of modes ensure I’ll be playing for quite some time. Solid 8.5/10!
For me the online wasn’t really a problem compared to tekken 7. They had almost 9 years to fix the netcode on consoles and they never did. For t8, I got disconnected maybe 2 or 3 times on ps5 during a 8 hour straight run. It was absolutely amazing. Though I will say, the controls aren’t as crisp as t7 was. Attacks are faster but weirdly, it takes slightly longer for your character to get back to a neutral frame. It’s weird that it almost feels plastic/clunky to me…. But I guess I’ll just have to get used to it. Other than that, it’s amazing.
THIS is the kind of review I like and it's delivered by the right person (or bird). If you wanna share a review for a friend to know or get this game, this is the one.
They did make it less complex on a few fronts though. For example... You used to have to do more complex inputs on chain throws.... Now they have changed those to just one button lol. All that training for nothing. You can literally just button mash and you'll complete the chain.
Just realised that tekken 7 gave us 8 new charaters on base roster ( Claidio, Gigas, Josie, Lucky Chloe, Katarina, Kazumi, Master Raven, Shaheem) whereas tekken 8 gave 3 (Azucena, Reina, Victor) Not complaining just wanted to point that out 😅 Hopefully there plenty more charaters and dlc to come!
Harada always goes in with the jokes and the outrageous things each character can look like and do. It's always better when something that doesn't make sense be the highlight of any character you choose.
Are you kidding why would anyone want Eddy back? its not like he was the most unique coolest stylish character in all of tekken that anyone could pick up and play.
If offline content is your goal, I would say SF6 is better in that aspect. I mean I have 200 hours only of offline, and I have to still complete a bunch of secondary missions
'Bizarre' is a good way to put Tekken endings and characters, and that's exactly why I love it. It's simultaneously goofy and gaudy but also so insanely cool at the same time and that's 100% unique to Tekken.
Online is mostly fixed, just some bugs with spectator mode at this point. The experience is much better than 7, noticeably lower input delay and having instant rematch is a revelation.

soul calibur really needs some love.
Hows the game holding up 1 month later? I'm thinking about getting it, not sure though.
@@Deflection 100% worth getting.
Keep it as nostalgia mate. Don't ruin your memories.
@@stevec5034"Don't try anything new. Don't make new experiences. Reminisce on your past instead of having fun now.
The part with the bear and robot rocket fish slayed me. I absolutely expect that in all games from now it.
Victor isn't based on John Wick but Tom Cruse's character from Collateral he looks just like him.
Vincent from Collateral
I have always loved Tekken games. Tekken tag tournament was one of the first games I got for PlayStation 2 if I remember right
I've been Hwoarang and only Hwoarang since T3

Tekken 8 is my first Tekken, after having a gamers block for the past month or so, Tekken has brought me back to actually enjoying gaming. That brings me to ask you I’ve been trying to get into Hwoarang but honestly I just can’t really get to like the character or even be good with him at least, any tips?
@@eduardosalgado6378Hwoarang and Jin were my favorite in TK4. My first was TK3 though. PlayStation 2 era. I was around 6yrs old back then. The music in these games have always been extremely gorgeous. Always. Hwoarang back in Tk4 had this really cool military outfit. Ironically I’m an Army combat veteran now. Hopefully they bring that aesthetic back for him.
FACTS!
Customize. EVERYTHING. The custom jukebox is easily my favorite. Bring Tekken bowling back please
You wana learn more do it. its not complex, its an investment
Already bought it day 1 game is amazing!! Story mode was pure flames that last battle between Jin & Kas was absolute hype and adrenaline🌋 online is brilliant & all the other modes and content too arcade battles , customization is the best we've had since Tekken 7 , blows MK & SF out the water and this is the first weekend of release...Tekken is here to stay!!!
I wish they would bring back scenario mode. I loved that
Same it’s so unique
Finished the story and having a lot of fun with it, I hope they add (unless I missed it) the mode where you fight in like beat-‘em-up stages against groups of enemies
Tekken Force and Harada said it might come back, but again he said don't ask him for sh17.
Doubt that mode will come back thats why they mixed it in with the story near the end.
@@DonYoGi8331 I feel like that’s exactly why it should come back, it’s already in the game albeit for only one mission
Tekken 8 actually does simplify things, but in a smart way
You can use single-command their extensions instead of memorizing long commands for chain throws, or if you do/did it in previous games - you can apply the harder input to squeeze extra damage
Throw breaks are now shown in move list, basic throws are still easy to break since Tekken 7
Instant run input seems to be much easier
Reina - one of the more/most complex characters in the series, has simplified inputs for wavedash, but keeps the true Mishima-style inputs and adds fancy electric sparks to her feet if you use the harder input
This new special style can be toggled midfight, turning the controls more akin to spectacle-fighter games/brawlers with one button(can be chained with itself and others+directions) for attacks, one for juggles one for throws and do on
The move list shows a lot more details about moves and previously hidden extensions/special inputs/extra descriptions etc. Frame data is there too, along with pretty good screen for move nuances
Arcade Quest is basically a tutorial with shitty/cheesy story(the good stuff is in main story mode)
Game is hard AF, more could be done, don't get me wrong, but it's a lot more beginner-friendly now
I'm just hoping we get more costume parts in the future. There's potential for re-creating fits from the past.
Favorite fighting game hands down! Incredible.
Agreed. Fighting games have absolutely zero value if you aren't a competitor tryhard.
The first game I got with my PS1 was Tekken. Here I am 28 years later, still loving this franchise!
It's only 6-8 hours of content, why lie? There's 2 games out that are much better for single player.
I miss the offline Team Fights
I HOPE they add Tekken Force and Tekken Bowling in future updates!! Miss these immensely!
I miss the "Chicken" voice health pickup
The battlefield sequence may be a sign for a new Tekken force mode
This game is incredible. NRS is shitting their pants this past 2 weeks. And I love it. See what happens when you add kameos? The OG’s are out ✌️
Tekken 8 HAS actually simplified a lot of complex things, for example, commands. What used to be a Half Circle command is now probably the simple press of a few buttons
I really want to play tekken 8 so bad because it looks really awesome and badass
Me too
@@Nicholasmcmath-cr1xl indeed :)
haven't played since t3 and have called the game quits back in 2016, just fun watching tekken tournaments now. excited what good ass tekken we will have in this game
It really is

Really like it but, the camera going in and out all for most of the attacks is annoying to me, is there an option to turn that off?
Jin vs kazuya in this game goes hard
I’m still holding on for a new virtual fighter……. Maybe one day
The addition of tekken ball immediately reminded me of the tekken 3 beat em up mode.
Jun is back and I'm hyped
Same! I haven't played her since TTT, fun learning all her new moves!

Some characters are missing in tekken 8 fir the first time I never thought Namco would remove characters from a tekken game like capcom is doing with their street fighter games instead of adding more characters their deleting more characters everyone should know Jin’s grand father is one of them I don’t like how Paul looks like in tekken 8
Tekken games often remove characters between entries, what are you waffling about? Heihaci is gone because Kazuya killed him in the last game.
@@mallow2902please then tell me who was missing in tekken 7 after tekken 6 I don’t remember anyone missing all I remember is more fighters got added it’s fine removing characters from the story but in arcade mode or online that’s stupid I agree removing characters is the most dumbest thing namco is doing
@@mikekanner2156 just look at the character page on the Tekken wiki. Characters get added, removed, and re-added all the time in this series. Did you forget about Tekken 3 where nearly the entire old cast was swapped out for new characters?
@@mallow2902 well removing famous characters is a different level but removing characters that nobody really cares about were added from other games is not a surprise you didn’t expect Akuma to return back to tekken 8 he’s a capcom character not a namco fighter there was also a final fantasy character that was removed and a SNK fighter these are fine to be removed nobody’s complaining about characters that doesn’t belong to tekken were talking about characters that belongs in tekken one of them is Jin’s grandfather Hehachi removing him makes it look stupid
MICROTRANSACTED BATTLE PASS WITH EIGHT TIMES THE PRICE.
There's no "before you buy" required. It's been nearly a Decade... it's not like theres tekken games being popped out every year.
Ngl I don't typically play fighting games but you guys made it sound very enticing for a beginner who wants to get into it
That's so weird, I was able to play Tekken online last night on PC, hope they fix the issue for other people this has the potential to pop off at EVO and everything
It was working for just over an hour on launch then had a network problem for a couple of hours I think around 3-4 hours after the online mode was working perfectly and has been since now
It's typical Day 1 online jank
There's a new meaning to "Being in heat"
I'm actually surprised they launched the game with both cross-play and rollback together. Some fighting games launched either have only one or the other or add them post launch months after but not both. MK1 doesn't even have both and it's fairly new although there was news that it will add cross-play this year. I'm glad SF6 and Tekken8 launched with both of these. Hopefully this will become a sort of a standard for upcoming new fighting games.
Tekken 8 is a must buy I bought it for every console and PC Steam
Been a fighting game fan for 13 years. Played mostly 2D fighters (mainly MK) and have virtually zero Tekken experience outside of once every few years at an arcade. Tekken 8 is so far the most fun I’ve had in a fighting game in a really long time. It is indeed complex, but extremely accessible and easy to learn enough to have fun. The nuance and variety of modes ensure I’ll be playing for quite some time. Solid 8.5/10!
Can’t wait for the next Soul Calibre
its impressive that theyve made it look exactly like 7, graphics wise

The character customization kind of sucks to be honest.
Other than that, it’s amazing.
tekken 3 was one of the first games i ever played as a 3-4 year old on ps1, 25 now and i cant wait to try out tekken 8
THIS is the kind of review I like and it's delivered by the right person (or bird).
If you wanna share a review for a friend to know or get this game, this is the one.
I pre-ordered this back in November and I conclude best money spent ever.
What about toilet paper or food or gas or ultra realistic goblin sexdolls
Tekken is my most favorite game of all time. This game looks so awesome. 🤩
Game of the Year? Who knows. 🤔
My main AND waifu is Alisa Bosconovitch.
They did make it less complex on a few fronts though. For example... You used to have to do more complex inputs on chain throws.... Now they have changed those to just one button lol. All that training for nothing. You can literally just button mash and you'll complete the chain.
That started getting easier in Tekken 7.
I mean it's kind of the same, idk if you use a fight stick or not, but on controller it felt the same to press either 1 or 1+2
Just realised that tekken 7 gave us 8 new charaters on base roster ( Claidio, Gigas, Josie, Lucky Chloe, Katarina, Kazumi, Master Raven, Shaheem) whereas tekken 8 gave 3 (Azucena, Reina, Victor) Not complaining just wanted to point that out 😅 Hopefully there plenty more charaters and dlc to come!

“LAST 3D FIGHTER STANDING?!?!” Are you kidding ?? Soul Calibur 6 is still going strong !!!!
Harada always goes in with the jokes and the outrageous things each character can look like and do. It's always better when something that doesn't make sense be the highlight of any character you choose.
Too late! Already did and having a BLAST.
No Eddie or Christie? No dice..
Are you kidding why would anyone want Eddy back? its not like he was the most unique coolest stylish character in all of tekken that anyone could pick up and play.
Couldn't care less about playing other people online, so glad to hear the offline single player experience is so good!
But it's not, especially for $70 when you compare an rpg
If offline content is your goal, I would say SF6 is better in that aspect. I mean I have 200 hours only of offline, and I have to still complete a bunch of secondary missions
@joyboy3084 That mode is a poor man's knockoff Yakuza. I'll I'd rather play Yakuza.
My last tekken was tekken tag. Is this one worth getting?
'Bizarre' is a good way to put Tekken endings and characters, and that's exactly why I love it. It's simultaneously goofy and gaudy but also so insanely cool at the same time and that's 100% unique to Tekken.
