This is the PERFECT walkman from Sony. Mine was a WM-F10-II from 1985, which my dad brought me from a trip. Compared to the plastic housed big ones, this was something from the future. Still have it, and was able to repair it after 20+ years of being non functional. The other day I went to my parents' house, hooked this thing to a typical Bluetooth speaker, and showed him it was working. The refurbishing was expensive, but watching my dad saying "you still have that thing and it works?" and watching him shedding some tears, made it all worth it. An awesome product from Sony.
Man, you just took me on a stroll down memory lane myself. That's why I'll never sell mine...too many good memories.
@@maverickwatchreviews if i had a working one like that i would never sell it aswell, still searching for a good one that is fixable tho, found one but somebody screwed it up with soda and bad soldering and cut a wire
I was wondering if somebody might be able to help me restore my dad's. He passed away a few years ago and when I was young I used to love listening to cassettes when I would go to his house on the weekends. He had one exactly like this and I still have it, but it doesn't play. I would pay and ship it to someone if they could help me out. I would do it myself, but I'm not good at tinkering around with electronics. Thanks!

@KJER ERRT There are no shortcomings with the design or the dimensions. It's a great product from Sony that everyone loved and still loves to this day.
Bought 1 today at a yard sale for 25 cents. I put in fresh batteries and boom it works great. Such a great find.

imagine this thing in Hungary in the 80s, it's like some alien tech, nobody belived it at all till they see it. my schoolmate had one, got from his relatives from the USA, it's like the seventh wonder of the world, everybody knew him as 'the dud with that awesome walkman'. That was a serious thing if you might touch it, so... it's crazy :D

I got into cassettes because of the nostalgia from the late 90's early 2000's, hated them initially because other kids had cd Walkmans and others with the early mp3 players. After repairing a decent receiver and tape deck I realized that tapes can sound pretty damn good, especially when you make mixtapes on fresh cassettes.
Plus, something more intimate happens when you have to sit down and listen to a tape as it's recording.
Bought a damaged WM-10 so I can listen to my mixtapes in style on the go. I just hope the pcb isn't fried.

Great vid! Found one at an estate sale, knew nothing about it but caught my eye and was only $2.50! This video helped me a lot. I thought it was broken until you mentioned the no headphones power off feature! Also I didn't realized it slid open and thought it only played a special size of cassette LOL!

I have a few Walkman cassette stereo players I found good ones at second hand stores
I bought the WM-F10 model for $1 yesterday at an estate sell. Mint condition everything works perfect and original ear phones, and belt clip....except for the broken belt to play the tape motor runs like new. Can you suggest a place to purchase replacement belts?

I still can't figure out how to get pass the flex cable and board on this F10 to lubricate properly? The WM-10 is more accessible to flip the Audio board open. The Service manual for this is wrong and instructions are for the WM-10 when dealing with the main audio board.
hello ,loved this Walkman could not afford 1 them got wm10 now of ebay, and yes that model was £140 and wm 10 £110 here in uk also I think that 1 came out in 84 a year after wm10 , wish had kept the catalouges

Cassette players are far better if they were made in the time when cassette was dominant. The 80s and 90s (maybe early 2000s) ones will be better off than the ones made today, so that's where you'll want to aim. Besides, the "Walkman" today isn't even a cassette player 😐😐😐😐
I have one like this, same model. it still works but it will probably need a little service as the mechanism is very noisy. where did you got serviced yours? maybe i can send it to him, thanks

i had one in the uk IN 1983 and it cost £75
I recently came across an old wm-10 id like to restore, its in great cosmetic condition but I cant get it to power up at all, battery contacts appear ok. any advice on where to check next wold be appreciated, thanks!
Chris D'Avino Try Opening the back the capacitors may be corrupted. Capacitors store the raw electrical energy obtained from the chemical energy of the battery the device uses. If you search the internet you can usually find a service manual for your Walkman or forums that can help with your problems.
You may have to replace them. If tape head won't spin then you need new belts.
I had the same issue with mine that I didn't use for about 15-18 years. I opened it up and found corrosion on a contact that was connecting the battery lead to the board. I cleaned it with contact cleaner and fixed it. The belt had also perished, had to clean it up and replace with a new one. It is as good as new now.

I recently purchased a couple of f-10 ii players and replaced the belts. They work, but still sound a little rough. Are you familiar on how to lubricate these machines?

MAVERICK WATCH REVIEWS Nice! Where do you actually place the lubricant on the machine? I've heard if you put it in the wrong places you can damage the machine.
You can't damage the machine with lithium grease :) Place the grease on the rollers and gears in VERY small amounts. Anywhere you see two moving parts touching each other.
Great! That's good to know. How about the motor and capstan bearings? Are you familiar with lubricating those?

since it doesnt have auto reverse how do you rewind it? (im very new this stuff)
You press the rewind button :) Auto-reverse refers to being able to immediately flip to the songs on the other side of the tape not actually rewinding the tape. Cassettes have songs on BOTH sides of the tape inside and printed on the cassette tape itself. I'm really showing my age here...lol.

I never used Mp3 or Ipods, cellphones I would take the cassette Walkman over those 3 other things.
At admit, at home I prefer to listen to lossless music from a good pair of open-back headphones but on-the-go, nothing beats the experience and feel that a Walkman has to offer.

Just won an auction for a WM-10. It is in the worst shape I’ve ever seen a Walkman be in, but it hopefully should be restorable and cleaned to its original glory.

I really want this because I love vintage electronics and songs in the 80’s. But sense I am only eleven, and have a phone, my mom doesn’t want me to buy something like this. So I got a CD player instead because I don’t really like playing music on my phone because of ads. Happy New Years!!!!
Hello there young man! I also love vintage electronics and this Sony Walkman was one of the coolest electronics back in my day(the 80's). Everybody wanted one and when this one came out people went nuts...lol. It was about $150.00 even way back then. That's like $450.00 today! I had to save for 6 months! Maybe one day you can get one but your mom is right. Really no need to have one of these today with being able to have thousands of songs right at your fingertips on today's smartphones. It's still really cool though and still sounds great! Happy New Year to you as well and get good grades so you can afford one of these one day :)
