    Hey Nice video, our country have people from many places of the world. It's like Singapur, here are indian, chinese, koreans, european, afrocaribean, natives, jews, muslim, latinos in general. Also a mixture of all that races; Panamenian DNA have a bit of all that people.

    The China Town you saw is where historically the Chinese community lived from the mid nineteen century onwards, but as you can see only some businesses are still there, most of the Chinese-Panamanian community moved to other bigger parts of the city like Condado del Rey and El Dorado (where the Sun Yat Sen Institute, the school I attended, is located). The mayor’s office has -in theory- a project to revitalize the old China town so let’s hope that it comes true. You’re always welcome in Panama. Cheers

    2:45 "when you know you're poor and can't afford things"
    That's everytime I return back to usa haha
    I think the diversity is due to its ports. As soon as they were talking about how you can walk around at 4am with your cellphone I added to my list. Panama would be a great vacation from colombia. Bocas del toro is also a really great spot. Sort of like the cancun of panama. Great video!

    • @astefanlopez
      @astefanlopez Рік тому

      The diversity in Panama is strongly related to many historical events and periods such as the Spanish Colonization, the Colombian-era, the construction of the interoceanic Railway (for example the Chinese people and Afro-Antillean people), the Panama Canal Construction (the French, Italians, British, Americans, Antilleans or Caribbeans, and many other Asians). Overtime, communities of diverse cultures started to appear and spread in our country, also because of the maritime transit due to the Panama Canal and our ports as you mentioned, many Jewish, Arabs, Turkish, etc. started to settle in Panamanian soil.
      In modern times, due to other countries problems (oppression, poverty, lack of opportunities and lack of freedom), we face big amounts of immigrants of countries like Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti and even Africa. But many of these people don't really stay in Panama because they are just in transit as their plan is to reach the United States. And the new reason of diversity in Panama nowadays is mainly related to the benefits for foreigners such as tax exemptions, real estate, a great variety of enterprises, investments, etc.

    I love Pty. You’re right, Albrook Mall is reminiscent of an American mall. Super safe there except for certain neighborhoods. Mercado de Mariscos is one of my favorite spots to eat. I love spending mornings walking on Cinta Costera. Definitely more expensive than Colombia but I do like that they use the USD. When I eat there it’s either at home, a fonda, or when in Albrook staying at my friends house I eat out at sushi restaurants.

    Hey Wes, by coincidence I was torn between visiting Panama City vs Cartagena next week and luckily came across u and ur vids where u compare the 2.
    Single guy 31, looking for that Miami life vibe (w/ good beach) to live as a digital nomad for the low. Sounds like caregena, Colombia is hands down better (esp the women). But now that u say in this PC is "the best city u ever been to", which one would u really choose for someone like me?? Also asian, so food is important.

      Panama is much more expensive but way safer. Cartagena is cheaper and closer to the beach but filled with a lot of prostituion and tourism, and vendors hassling you everywhere. Depends on what you want.
