Here in US, We call it a Green Card dreams. Most of us have a dream to start a business or startup company when you get your green card. It may take few years to decades to get one. Once you get it, first few weeks and months will be exploring business opportunities. There are few who makes it happen. Rest are already in their late 40s and just continue with a daily job. The younger you are it’s easier to take that bold move. In 20s, it’s just you. You can make it happen. In 30s, you have a family with kids, little riskier. In 40s, you have kids going to college. Very expensive college fees. In 50s you are into saving for retirement. The boldness to move out and start business keeps going down as you age. Take steps when you are young with less dependencies.

Major factor for such bold decisions to quit IT employees is PARITY OF PAY. Whatever a core stream engineer earns in 15 years, can be easily earned in 10 years in IT, dev's can earn even quicker, say 7 years. So, some people take a few years of "break" from career, because they can "afford to detach" due to relatively higher savings. They engage in something soulful like farming, or travel or entrepreneurship. Infact many people also return back to IT. Frankly, the bottomline is this---- If an IT employee earns the same salary as other streams, majority of these "IT Dropout" stories won't even exist. Indha work pressure, politics lam endha field la dhan illa? IT la atleast konjam respect and dignity maintain pannuvanga fire pannumbodhu kuda, matha core streams lam innum mosam, they have hostile working environment, and cheaper pay.

Any generalization is done only "at large scale". Comparing IT industry job market with pharma is moot! If you wanna argue that way, every "niche" has high paying jobs. You can't get through those niche fields without relevant educational qualification, but IT is a job-engine of the economy. It can take any youngster with common sense and train them in months.

In my company recently they changed from yearly to quarterly performance. Also every month we have discussion with manager.
We need to continuosly upskill ourself both technically and also in Management aspects. It's everyones responsibility to move into latest technology and be a master on it. It's simple that the person who adapts to the change be it technology, role or even location will survive in this industry. IT is the highly paid job in india.
Have been working closely with IT industries for almost 20 + years : Caste issue - Very rare -- not a company culture but it can be an individual based. We cannot blame just like that. Moreover, in IT, nowadays - increments are becoming more stressful for management and loyalty is very less post increments. Overall there is a change in this generation loyalty -- Money is dominating with more youngsters - not blaming them.
Are you serious? You are talking about loyalty.. Does any employer have loyalty with thier employees.. How do you expect that in return.

This ridiculous things are happening only in IT and BPO companies. Employees should know that they should not sign the resignation letter if they threaten them to do. They should be well aware of the rules of land before joining in these firms.
