Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

Having lived in both LA and New York, and having been an actor for over 30 years now, I appreciate this. A realistic common sense attitude to being a member of the tv/film industry during these times. I’m a hopeless optimist and even I’ve had concerning thoughts about my future. It’s galvanizing for me to watch this.
I like the fact that he's honest about how the industry can be detrimental if someone's not careful. He loves what he does, but he loves life even more. Getting joy out of sleeping and eating well. Putting the chaos behind him to meditate and to take walks. He's not irrationally consumed by his love for filmmaking. He's definitely going to have a better mental state for it. He's taking life as is.
The female interviewer is always so amazing. She gets such honest answers from those she interviews.
Agreed! she's one of the best interviewers I've ever heard, every question is on point. A good sign of a good interviewer is how comfortable, honest and good answers the guest feels/gives, do you know her name?
“‘I keep my overhead low so that I don’t have to chase money.” Good stuff!
Pay attention kids... this guy conveys the facts.
They should really show you stuff like this before they lure you into film schools
Andy is definitely one of my favourite voices on Film Courage
This is why it's good to have your own source of income, as there's no guarantee getting scripts solds will = lots of $$.
Another source of income?
What a honest, open and humble guy. Thank you so much for the great insights into a crazy and fascinating industry.
You add so much value with interviews like this. So glad to support your channel.
Thank you John. We really like our interview with Andy. He is someone who loves storytelling and filmmaking. And he is excellent at his craft. He's really fantastic. Look forward to sharing more from this interview.
Love to hear about the highs and lows of the industry. Shows determination!
wow! real talk...kudos for showing the other side of this industry
I appreciate his honesty to a degree. I’d like to hear from people who are about to move out of LA due to streaming meaning that you don’t have to shoot in Hollywood anymore. Or if these artists have considered moving to a smaller city to find far more consistent work. I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on this, since I myself was born and raised in Oklahoma, and I moved to LA twice to pursue my acting career (2014-2015, 2017-2019).
Shooting outside of LA has been going on for years...Better tax incentives are everywhere.
He sounds like a real likable guy. Be cool to hang with.
Why does he look like John Malkovich and Aaron Eckhart at the same time lol
Good video.
You have such great interviews Thank Q
Thanks Film Courage !
Interesting take on this Pandemic Pause phase we're going through.
Conventional work mode and model has ground to a halt (albeit stuttering and clambering back to life), but the OTT is cruising steadily. Of course, the OTT model has allowed the ready to screen projects, from around March 2020, to gather eyeballs and cut down on film making interest on loans, but there's been a slow shift on the thought process of creativity, and what the New Audience will be.
High cost of living in LA and his testimony you better love the craft of filmmaking to keep you going.
We are about the same age and I shoot stills but have friends who shoot motion including dp work. I was going to go after a bigger agent before the pandemic. I was shoot low budget Japanese editorials but I got really good. Not just craft of shooting but working with talent dealing with clients. One last input is that you have to work in different markets and not LA. You will live in LA but do a shoot in Idaho or India.
Very informative. Networking for non-networkers is good.
Facts networking is crucial.
Which parts of this video are most valuable to you?
Truth!
Thanks for watching Drew!
if i get funding for my project, i will keep andy in mind
Narrative pays worse than commercials generally.... I would have NEVER guessed that.
