Is it just me or does anyone else find it asinine that you have to go through all this to create a simple star shape...not to mention the pathway to get there is not at all intuitive. What would lead anyone to filters > render - gfig to create a shape? Is there a more simple way to create shapes...shouldn't take this much effort to create a black start with a red border.
Sounds like a useful tool that's been forgotten about as GIMP progressed and needs a serious update. Still, it's a useful tool. Thanks for doing a video on this.
I've started learning GIMP a week ago ... A BIG thank you for posting such highly professional and straight to the point tutorials 😀😎 keep up with this 'life saving' work 😀 greetings from Italy
This is a really handy filter for artistic shapes if precision is not needed, which is probably the bulk of users. The fact that it doesn't render the paths can be a deal breaker if you do. You are very limited by the stroke and fill tools in the plugin which is why you explained how to create a path from the selection. Unfortunately using Selection to Path is a very poor substitution for accuracy, which your example shows clearly. When you turned the star selection to a path and then showed the path, there had to be over 50 nodes. Making the same shape using vector tools makes the same shape with 10 nodes. All those extra nodes are nothing more than kinks in an otherwise perfect line, which get exposed the larger you make the path. I always wished gimp would improve their selection to path algorithm. They were too complicated for me to figure out. The curious can Google "Gimp Selection to Path Advanced Settings" Thanks for reminding me I have this in my toolbox for simple shape needs. There are a lot of other good shape tool plugins out there though if you really need accurate paths, but this will serve you well when precision is not needed, or the provided stroke and fill tools are all you need. As a bonus, I couldn't get it to crash in Linux. I tried all the options without any issues. Thanks again. I always enjoy your videos.
Wow, another tool that I didn't even know could exist in GIMP. In fact, with this tool, your "Honeycomb Logic Modern Logo" tutorial becomes even easier to be performed 😁
Awesome! Starting to see ads because you are such a popular guy now. Seriously, thanks so much though... Your research saves us time on possible pitfalls. In Open Source "It's not a bug... it's a feature."
I'm working in GIMP 2.10.8 and have followed all the steps so far. When I choose the starting point for the arc, it does not show on the canvass. When I finish the arc, nothing shows on the canvas nor the gfig layer. What am I missing?
I don't understand why mine doesn't word with full hardness in the stroke. even using the fill option, the edges are still dissolving to the background.

THANKS for the tutorial you certainly made my day.
Just subscribed like a few hours ago, and I'm already first. Do I get the subscriber of the year award now?
You might be in the running for subscriber of the day I guess - though you have some stiff competition.

This the feature I've been looking for, thank you very much for sharing.

Wow, I've been using Gimp since 2.6 and I wasn't even aware of this filter. Thank you!
It was definitely tucked away! Thanks for watching.

Yes I was thinking the exact same thing. Wish I came across this tool earlier!
@@DaviesMediaDesign how do you change the thickness?
Tested Gfig on Gimp 2.10.30 using that filters with ClearlooksDark Theme on windows and it worked without UI bug
Mike,
that's very handy to know, thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you! This lack of ability to draw a quick circle has ( until now ) been bugging me about Gimp

What's the best way to create an infinity symbol in GIMP? Would you use Gfig for that?
THANKS YOU! i was using GIMP one year and i were so sad that there is no shape tool but you made my day
It's so difficult trying to adapt to Inkscape, so I'm glad I came across this video.
Great👏.....Was looking for this tutorial from a long time..... Thank You 😀
more than a year passed and " select an object" still crashes gfig window 😒
Not enough people working on GIMP to prioritize fixing it, unfortunately.
How would you make custom foldable index tabs for books.
There used to be normal circle and line tools, why are those gone?
Awesome!

How to pin this tool onto the left panel ?
That's a good start for a good feature.
how to set the stroke in gfig? in my case the stroke is a bit bigger. Thank you
You can't. He goes over the workaround in the video. You should watch it.
Thank you!
