Got referred to this review after watching Peter's new Airfix 1/72 ME-410 review. A bit disconcerting coming straight from the Airfix review with Peter's full beard to a clean shaven Peter. Interesting to see the difference of 43 years between the two kits. I remember building this kit on a cold xmas day in 1980 (Santa provided the kit). It being cold because the central heating in the house had failed and it would be the 27th before a repair guy could come out. Happy memories!
I had this one too. in my very long ''unpainted'' period. I didn't know at the time that the ME-210 and ME-410 were maybe worse than the ME-110 they were supposed to replace, but it looked very MODERN with that long glazed cockpit and remotely controlled machineguns. And the large cannon front of course. That cannon broke off within a year, i couldn't find it and I managed to put a toothpick with some extra stuff added on it in its place. Not bad.
As a Battle of Britain obsessed youngster I always wanted the Messerschmitt 110 , but this was the only twin engined Messerschmitt I could get. It’s strange how some shops had plenty of some stock but not of others
I remember building this kit in the 80‘s, and liked it. It was also special for having had the nazi insignias on the decals sheet… it felt very strange for me back then as a youngster in Germany… none of my numerous other MB kits had those.
I got the same kit from Matchbox a few days ago, but I wasn't so lucky with the decals, they are a bit yellowed and I think I'll have to put them out in the sun for a few days and then give them a coat of clear lacquer. But, the Me 410 is a kit worth having in my collection.
Best thing about this kit is the one part canopy, modern Me-410 kits are better in details, but most of them split the canopy in the middle (for example take a look to the italeri one).
Happy New Year Peter. I'm with you on this kit. I never spied one at my local shop? On another topic do you know if Matchbox did a Cobra gunship? I seem to remember building one but I cannot for the life of me remember the manufacturer?
@@johnf3885 Glad to hear that John...But you need to stay safe as I hear some folks got the virus a week later...hoping you get your final jab soon. I have a Matchbox Cobra now! Review coming in a week or two. 👍🏻
Hi mate. I'll be making one of my Matchbox Phantom FG1/FGR2 this weekend. Drop you a couple of pics at some point. Liking the vids as always. Regards Paul
One I did build - probably in the early 1980s. It was a bit clunky and I think I preferred the FROG version, which I had built much earlier in the 70s. These days I would opt for the more modern Italeri kit. The main problem with the 410 was that it had some poor aerodynamic qualities, especially at slower speeds. It was a bit of a bodge as the original design, the 210, was even worse. The 210 and 410 were supposed to have replaced the 110 but as they had so many shortcomings, the 110 remained in production to the end of the war.
If I remeber rightly, Revell sold this kit through the 90s, but it seems to have disappeared for now....don't know if it'll ever come back; shame if not, as it's an aircraft worth producing....Maybe we''ll get a 'new' tooling sometime?
Interesting they show the spiral spinner painting but i assume dont tell you how to achieve it? Im betting even today thats not something thats easy to replicate ? 🤔
Hi Peter ! Maybe I missed it on the video, but I was wondering how much this box is worth now and do you know a place we can buy it online. Can't seem to find anything on my own... Thank you :)
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Thank you ! I just put an alert on it. It doesn't seems to be available at this time. What kind of price should I expect if it's not indiscreet ? I'll probably go for an earlier version if I can't find one...

Hi. Good memories. I made it in 75 more of less, well, i destroyed it to say the truth. Quite nice kit if i remember . Many thanks from azores currently
CORRECTION: This particular kit has the box art by Doug Post who preceeded Roy Huxley.

matchbox kits were at the time renowned for clarity of their canopies!
I love your reviews of these classic Matchbox kits. Used to pick them up at Woolworth's in Canada back then. Never had this one though

..; was a continuation of the attempt to develop the Me 110, following the 210. underpowered, generally ineffective. looks nice though doesn't it!
make a good tank buster with its 4o mil nose cannon.
Somewhat off topic, but I'm really impressed with your camera set up. Back on topic: I had this kit when I was very much younger
Thanks! 👍🏻 Though I sometimes struggle with the focus...
