    Oregon and Washington were not looking to leave prior to USC and UCLA jumping. And I think they were in fact willing to move forward with the PAC-12 provided a decent-ish deal was on offer -- but the domino was Colorado. At that point, it was clear the thing was going to crumble, so of course you look to the the B1G.
    It must stick in Oregon's craw especially that inferior football programs like UCLA and USC got a full share right away, and Oregon didn't. Oregon gets better ratings than those schools, is just a bigger brand than both of them. ... but worse, frickin Indiana and their ilk get a full share.
    I have to wonder if the SEC and B1G will look to cut the dead weight at some point.

    • @becks89
      @becks89 24 дні тому

      Always wondered why national media never mention this. Get some off the record comments from Oregon and Washington sources. Oregon and Washington bring more value to Big 10 than most schools in the existing Big 10 year they treated like 2nd rate citizens.

    • @tarheel7406
      @tarheel7406 24 дні тому

      Nope... W/O immediately tried to follow USC/UCLA but were then rejected. I suspect that W/O sabotaged the PAC's ability to agree to a Tier 2 offer. The PAC did reject Tier 2 offers, W/O were in self-inflicted distress, and he B1G caved and prematurely invited.

    • @cacogenicist
      @cacogenicist 24 дні тому

      @@tarheel7406 - Of course there were conversations and vetting, you're going to keep your options open.
      That doesn't mean UO and UW would have definitely jumped at an offer, had departures stopped at USC and UW, and were there at least a decent-ish TV deal. A partial share was particularly a sticking point with Oregon, especially considering additional travel expenses.
      Initially UO and UW weren't offered for multiple reasons, including the B1G not wanting to be seen as having put a bullet in the PAC-12, and USC and UCLA being very much against it (in no small part a matter of USC wanting a recruiting edge vs Oregon, who regularly poaches California kids out from underneath them).
      But when Colorado left, the B1G swung back to the prospect of adding Oregon and Washington, as it was _clear_ at that point that the conference was going to disintegrate. And it was clear to the B1G at that they could likely get UO and UW for a steal, as the schools had lost all leverage and were pretty well screwed.
      Colorado launched Oregon and Washington to the B1G and put a nail the in the PAC-12's coffin.

      I was a little offput by the comments that they would've left prior and knew significantly in advance. We have the (per public records requests) exact text messages from Jen Cohen (then Washington AD) and Ana Mari Cauce (Washington's President) as Kliavkoff was presenting the Apple deal to them on August 1st.
      One exact text from Cauce was "We need to weigh against other options. But yes not what we wanted" to which Cohen follows up by saying "its not close. this is bad !" and Cauce counters with "But a quick out." At that point, she then asks Cohen to send her Karl Scholz's (Oregon's President) phone number since she didn't have it previously. We also have Cauce's immediately after texts with Taylor Randall (Utah's President) in which Randall says that the deal is "Tough to analyze, but does have upside." and she replies with "Agreed. My fear is short term.".
      A few days later on August 3rd, she texts Scholz that they need to talk. She immediately follows that up by texting Santa Ono (Michigan's President) that they need to talk as well. Washington's Board of Regents meeting concludes at the end of the day. You can straight up look at it playing out live and absolutely nothing indicated they'd have any intention of moving prior to the realization that the deal was too far gone from what they wanted.

The money will eventually follow… why jump to another conference & collect support payments when the universities can band together & figure out getting the current ACC teams to be the dominant conference in college football…. Winning more & being dominant will bring the revenue needed into the ACC …. The ACC has the programs to be the most successful conference in football… just got to figure out how to win on the field…. That's the beauty of the setup, it opens up all sorts of manipulation and monkey business to throw games and maximize the number of playoff spots for P2 branding. No B12 or others will see the playoffs unless they've won every single game, and even then, their schedule and starting roster will be so scrutinzed it will be a 50/50 proposition as to whether they beat out a heavily branded P2 team for that final spot....Consolidation isn't some future tense thing, it's already happened, and from here on out, any P2 school would be crazy to vote for adding any program that wasn't a proven football doormat. If you think I'm joking, just remember Wisconsin won a Power conference championship with 5 losses in 2012, taking the 3 best B1G teams into overtime. No P2 school will take in Clemson or FSU willingly without massive underhanded payments and assurances. There is simply nothing in it for them.

      I don't think that would happen. A Big 12 champion and runner up would have a great chance of making the playoff. Remember, it's also what the networks want and there are not 12 championship teams that bring the eyeballs in both the BIG and SEC. That still leaves room for 1 or 2 Big 12 teams as stated. They don't need to be an unbeaten TCU team either.

      @@knightu1642keep believing that. There is one other thing people overlook, SEC & B1G are eliminating divisional play, which means there gonna be years Alabama avoids LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas and Ole miss..LoL 😂 So comical, why throw a Clemson or FSU monkey wrench in there? A 4 loss Alabama or Georgia will never be left out of a 12 team playoff . Fans are morons. Disney is setting this all up to assure success for black head coaches on teams like Alabama and Georgia, and other teams that have never had one. Just look what happened at Michigan....that's the real plan. Harbaugh cheated? Oh nevermind, all is well. LoL they don't even try to hide it...
