I really like this band but this is a huge step down for Russell compared to what he's used to. Bloc Party sell out 10,000 capacity arenas and Russell has swapped that for being in a pub band. He obviously enjoys it. His usual band is dozens of times bigger than the band Novacub are opening for at this gig. I don't mean any of what I say in a rude way, Novacub are a great band and I respect all its members - and by 'pub band' I just mean a group that doesn't have a huge following, but I'm sure Novacub eventually will have.
It's a side project, he doesn't care about doing smaller venues. Quite the opposite, it's very enjoyable to play smaller venue and have time to spend with the fans because there isn't too many people.
