So there are 30 Portland’s in the United States. Gravity falls is in Oregon. She is most likely from Portland Maine as that is the furthest Portland . Funnily enough there is a Portland in Oregon so it would be soos like to call it.a long distance relationship not realizing that she is in Portland oregon
I find the fact that this episode is created before FNAF and Doki Doki literature club fascinating. I just love this episode, the pixel art is also really pretty.
11:36 - *“Yeah, he's got black gloves and everything.”* And now you know why Stan just _happened_ to have a retracting grappling hook gun lying around in his shop, way back in episode 1. That was part of his burglar kit, which accidentally got mixed in with the gift shop inventory. 13:44 - *“Oh, now it's **_Five Nights at Freddy's!_** ”* Interestingly, _FNaF_ came out only two months before this episode first aired - which means this episode was being written and storyboarded almost a year before anyone had ever _heard_ of Freddy Fazbear.
There's a short deleted scene of Stan debating whether to steal the badger with animatronic raccoons being his shoulder angel/devil which I adore so much. Also the storyboard version of the dancing badger is a masterpiece.
CIPHER UPDATE: There is a cipher at 8:52 and it decodes to “SPACE JAM TWO”. The key word, “BEARO” can be seen in the kitchen, but only when Soos tucks his shirt at 15:51. The end credits cipher decodes to, “ANTHYDING CAN HADPLEN” and the cipher on the end picture decodes to, “WINNING HEARTS BY DAYLIGHT, POSSESSING ROBOTS BY MOONLIGHT, HER EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE IS A REAL FRIGHT, SHE HAS THE ONE NAME GIFFANY”. Fun Facts: Old Goldie’s scream is the scream of Alex Hirsch, the government agents can be seen in the top left corner at 4:05, and one of the games in the video game store is labeled, “Fight Fighters”.
Giffany may have started as a "nice girl" but she sets off a ton of red flags. And to think that Gravity Falls came out way before FNAF. I am just glad that Soos found a girl after all this.
I think this episode was finished before FNAF was a thing and just released after it so to everyone who's gonna say the animatronics in this episode are a FNAF reference, no, they aren't.
Ah, yes. The episode that famously predicted both FnaF and DDLC (and while one can say the second released quite a bit after GF, the first one really was one huge coincidence). I like how this episode focuses a bit more on Soos and, surprisingly (at least to me), manages to introduce a love interest for him that actually seems really nice in ONE episode. Usually when shows try to do that the character in question ends up really flat, boring or unlikable (maybe getting better later, but the introduction is always tricky), but, for me, Melody works. 5:14 I LOVE Stan's reaction here. 8:11 I do like how this implies that security coming to get Mabel in the mall has happened MANY times. So many, in fact, that even the usually anxious Dipper is completely nonchalant about dealing with them. 8:31 I did actually go through something vaguely similar to Soos in this moment. After drawing on my tablet for a long time I then grabbed a piece of paper and started sketching something in real life, made a mistake, and my left hand made the motion of pressing Ctrl Z and I just froze completely, staring at it in disbelief. 11:40 Why is he leaving out the window? Because he's going to rob someone, duh. You can't just take the door when you're going on a mission to commit crimes. I also get a lot of amusement out of the game Giffany's from because, while I haven't played any of those games myself, I have seen a solid handful of joke Let's Plays of pretty terrible Japanese Anime-ish Dating Sims and it's... pretty much exactly as this episode portrays it, including the really awkward writing and typos which make you think someone put the game through the first online translator they could find and never let anyone read it before releasing (it's one of the reasons LPs of those games are fun to watch, just the utter nonsense that's written in there sometimes). The accuracy portrayed in this episode always makes me chuckle. Small fun fact, one of the ciphers for this episode, which have already been posted in another comic, but I'm referring to the long one that starts with "Winning hears by daylight..." is, in case you hadn't realized, a reference to the theme song from Sailor Moon, which I think is a neat little easter egg.
In the first episode we see that Gravity Falls is located in central Oregon and Portland is on the northern border a bit to the left. So it's a several hour drive but it's doable within a day. He could easily drive there, stay a few nights and come back. I live an hour south of Portland and I literally just came back from a roadtrip where we had to cross through that part of Oregon. We got from just over the Navada border, visited The Clown Motel's museum/giftshop, got delayed by two hours of car troubles, and got home before dark.
I can’t believe I forgot how great the “Cash Money” song was. Also “Your face is good! I’m a Soos!” lives in my head rent-free. I really love the friendship going on between Stan and Wendy in this episode. They just play off each other so well, and I am _living_ for it. Man I forgot how great my favorite cartoon ever is, this is really fun!
Fun fact- From the physical journal book, Giffany is still alived in that she wifi herself to a nearby arcade. Now she is "dating" that fighting Ryu clone from that first pixel art episode (when Dipper got that Ryu guy to fight Robbie) althought they argue all the time!
@@MikeyVenture Good idea cos the journals is basically spoiler materials! Also reading it after watching it, you will get all of the references and Easter Eggs!
I love the Gif vs Jif joke. Officially it’s provinces like Jif with a soft G, popularly it’s pronounced Gif with a hard G, but language evolves and becomes what the populace makes it. Poor Dr. Seuss’s name rhymes with voice, but everybody says it like it rhymes with Zeus. It’s his middle name and his mother’s maiden name. He knows how to pronounce it. I heard he eventually gave up correcting people. Language becomes what people make of it.
Acronyms are never pronounced by the words in them so how graphics is pronounced is irrelevant. Acronyms are pronounced by how they look as a word. GIF is vague enough that it could be pronounced either way. The developer of the CompuServe Graphics Interchange Format said he called it Jif like the peanut butter, as in “choosy developers choose Jif” mimicking their tagline. So their technically is an official pronunciation, not that anyone cares. As their was no easy way to look up the pronunciation for decades, most (but not all) people guessed GIF is spoken with a hard g. Again, language evolves based on how people speak at large. The common pronunciation is currently with a hard g. You’re free to say it however you like. Hard or soft g, people will understand what you mean.
Fun fact: after the Season 2 finale, Rumble McSkirmish (the arcade game Dipper brought to life) and Giffany are in a relationship. It’s in the real-life version of Journal 3.
XD I love that she was working at 'Meat Cute' So I was waiting for this episode ever since Fight Fighters! Pretty sure I remembered to mention that Paul Robertson did the sprite art for Rumble? Yep they brought him back in to do Giffany's sprites
Everyone is freaked out by Chuck E. Cheese, but no one remembers Showbiz Pizza and the extremely horrifying Rock-A-Fire Explosion, which is ALL over this episode and series.
This episode became creepier after FNAF and Doki Doki Literature Club came out. The title is apparently based on Lars and the Real Girl (which I heard you mention 3 seconds after I posted).
