If you are oiling your hair often make sure you are washing it often
exactly!! I hate when people say "oil your hair everyday" and never mention anything about water at all!

My locs DO NOT do well with the "leave them alone" approach. My loose hair was thick, long & healthy because it was pampered (hot oil treatments, deep conditioners, scalp massages, bi weekly washes etc) but I could no longer maintain that - mental health & Uni got in the way. I wanted convenience & to keep volume so I got microlocs. My hair was starting to break off because I listened to the whole "your locs only need water". NO. Once a spoilt princess? Always? Lol. Anywho, my hair is thriving again because I'm back to using the LCO/LOC Method. It's a fraction of the time than when it was loose- nice & my hair still needs it. I do scalp massages, use my satin wraps, leave ins, soft bristle brushes to distribute product, weekly washes and bro my locs have never felt so soft and looked so shiny. To his, his own.
What leave in conditioner you use?
I feel this. I used water/rose water and there were pieces of hair flying everywhere. I shampoo, condition, and put leave in conditioner in my locs and they’re doing fine after a year. Just got to use a good shampoo and don’t be afraid to wash your hair more than once a month!

What you do? Only oil after you wash your locs. Our hair produces natural oils already. When we wash our hair (presumably with a shampoo) you disrupt those oils, whether it is a clarifying or moisturizing shampoo. The idea of oil is to be a temporary layer until our scalp reproduces our natural oils. In my case I wash my locs once a week, so I oil my scalp once a week (oil after you moisturize, preferably with aloe vera or rose water). Sometimes I skip the oil altogether, you really don't need it? If you ask me it's something you don't 100% need in your routine, prioritize moisturizing.
So my understanding is don't add to the hair, but the scalp is fine. I get that
I oil once or twice a week not the hair just my scalp, If I feel some itching I'll use tea tree oil with coconut oil on that area and that's it I'll wash it all out on Sunday, I'd just spritz my hair with rose water 2 - 3 times a week I don't do much🤷🏾♀️ I just let my hair be, let it grow on its own ✌🏾
I would say that probably twice a day morning and then probably in the night but you don’t need to keep putting oil in your hair when you have it in your hair all you really do need to do is add cool water and damp your hair, so the natural oil products will stay in your hair for a long period of time, I try keeping my hair damp with water often, but my hair gets pretty dry often than once a week I’ll wash my hair with tree tea shampoo and conditioner

I washed within my first 4 days. I have coils though and I just coiled them back in place while rinsing the shampoo. I’m 1 month loc’d now, first retwist a week ago.
What do you when your scalp is dry when you used oil the day before

I oil my locs every other week
You oil as your hair needs it. Everyone has different hair. Some people need daily oils and treatments. Some people need once in a while. There is no hard and fast rule. You literally have to figure out what your body needs. All my life I was told to wash my hair after swimming in the ocean but when I stopped my hair got healthier, looked and felt better. Turns out my hair loves the salty water. People need to figure out what is good for their hair. Also, no matter what, moisture is from inside and out. If you’re not eating and hydrating/drinking right you’ll have hair and skin issues. Good luck and be well. Been taking care of my hair for 30 years and this is what I’ve learned.

Agreed. Too many people telling us what we "should" and " shouldn't" do with our hair. It's always a personal journey and what's good for one head isn't necessarily good for another. My own sister had lustrous, thick hair with its own needs and my hair is drier and less porous, therefore has a different routine. One blood, but different heads.
Thank you for saying this! I hate how everyone acts like their rules are the end all be all. They told me not to wash my hair often, and that was the WORST thing for my locs.

It depends on the person's hair, as oil can also grow your hair. Someones scalp may need it......
Every 3-4 days is enough to apply oil to your normal scalp/locs.
I haven't been using oil water or nothing my hair is growing at a insane rate. My hair has never gotten a lot of oils it makes my head itch.
Yeah I only oil my locs every two weeks and I apply it after my locs have been cleaned and is towel dry but definitely works for me

My hair is covered 90% of the time, maybe once a week or once every other week if I need it will I spritz with Lavender/ rosemary water, scalp & Hair then seal w/ oil. I've been leaving it alone and it's been growing so if it ain't broke don't fix it

You can oil your scalp as needed, just make sure the oils you are using are 100% natural, and also that if you are using oil than you should also wash often at least once a week. (Make sure you are using proper shampoo as well made for locs. I recommend “Tingle” shampoo).

Use a light oil for ur locs like sweet almond oil and diluted tea tree or peppermint oil for ur scalp

@@jakealbert2101 me personally I have 3 spray bottles one rose water-regular water- and one with water+coconut oil. I alternate between rose water and regular water everyday either once or twice before bed and before you go to bed. And I use the coconut oil water once every 3-4 days
