Met these sharp dressed young men back around 1980 +/- 1-3 yrs. at the national flatpicking championships in Winfield, Ks. They were opening for my favorite band of all times, RK & the TB's. As a struggling banjo maker, it was a huge honor to meet Pete & receive the sweetest, kindest, rejection critique of my short lived luthier career. He told me it was not loud enough. Later the same festival, Doc Watson stopped by my booth, played the same banjo and said he also didn't like it because it was too loud. I have wandered the world in complete confusion ever since. At least I have an original Charles Sawtelle business card, a prized possession. Thank you, gentlemen, for many years of fine music and fun times.
Ordered mine, soon as notified by the lads back in July. Arrived a couple days back. Didn't expect the autographs; the audio is, typical of Hot Rize, excellent. Time for some binge-listening, if you'll excuse me..
Prøv at se efter det nummer med RALPH MAYO & L C SMITH. Bluegrass versionen. Det er formentlig den originale version. Ligger på nettet, og på Earley Days of Bluegrass. Er aldrig blevet overgået. Hilsen Sigge S, Fiddler & Banjoman
You are all great musicians, but your version has neither the pulse, nor the "hotness" in the singing or the instrumental like in the version of L C SMITH AND RALPH MAYO. minus Southern Playboys Sorry. Some of us have the long perspective. Do not despair, cause that old version has never been surpassed.
