Aww that was just so nice it brings me joy knowing that there are such nice people out there. And looking at the deaf kids hearing for the first time was amazing ,I cryed!
This has got to be my favorite episode. I work for a school bus company, on the sped buses and I help transport deaf children to the only Blind and Deaf school in Hawaii. (HSDB- Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind). This really touched home for me.

The deaf can be anything they want to be just because you are deaf doesn't mean that you are helpless it just means that you see the world in a different way than most of the people in this world do you may have some things you have difficulties with but that doesn't mean that you are helpless it just means that you need to do it in a different way then most people you sometimes are misunderstood like me but that won't stop us

I really enjoy seeing people helping others but what I enjoy even more is seeing people happy, that makes me cry tears of joy!!!
I LOVED this episode. It is wonderful to see a school to be saved. I wish the school for the blind could've been saved as well, but... Maybe they'll bring it back in time.
For the Closed Caption problem, just hit the CC button on the tool bar under the video and it gives you the option to turn on the CC.
It doesn't work as the captions are automatic which comes up with lots of crap that doesn't make any sense to us. I've commented that they need to put up proper subtitles as it's no excuse to use the UA-cam automatic captions as it's quite lazy
i absolutely loved this home edition,not only did i learn sign language but its my favorite show too !!! (i'm hearing.but i know sign language) Thumbs up TY & and the others!!!
I can never hold my tears when I see someone's despair turn into hope.... through out the whole experience of having someone's residence renovated there are many perfect moments that go above and beyond one's imagination.... Thumbs up to all those who care and try to change the world for the better

I go to this school its really awesome and really cool to go to it and see all the deaf kid there some sweet and kind!!!
So cool. Watching this from Cambodia in 2023. I used to be a substitute teaching parent in the dorm with the little kids at the school for the deaf and blind in Tucson, Arizona more than 40 years ago. I also helped with the Extreme Makeover build in Hawai'i. It's GREAT to do a little on-line research and see that the Oregon School is still there and so is the Haunted House!

I went to Broadway and there were people signing everything they said. It was nice that thy did that.

my niece is deaf i wish there was a school like this near us for her. i adore rob zombie have for years but for him to take part in this i love him more now.
My dad worked there when they shut the blind school down.

@zo ya thanks to deaf education many deaf people can communicate by talking. hearing aids are a huge help but cant be worn all the time so sign language is important even with the aid. some read lips and some of the kids talking had someone voicing over for better understanding
At "oregonlive" I found an article that says the dorm would fit for 8 students, so they decided to wait till the can afford to expand the dorm.

Extreme makeover all of u should be. Blessed for the fantastic job that u did. In keeping the deaf school and haunted house. Open for years and years to come

Could you please put up subtitles, as the UA-cam automatic captions are so bad. There are few of us are deaf and wholly dependent on subtitles.
It was nice too have the deaf actresses come say hi. I like her in switched at birth. The tv show

I am not deaf, but would love it if in shows abouth deaf people, they actually show the person "speaking with hands" in the corner of the screen or smth, thats like minimum respect. Maybe it was texted when it was on tv... great episode though:) (bad english grammar, i know, not my first language)

Too bad the school isn't able to use the new dorm. They can't afford to staff it. The other building holds more of the boys. I also wish they would had at least shown the interpreter during the Deaf episode, common now!
I love the nightmare factory part it was amazing and a little scary but still amazing.
@kalaal97 what do you mean they did it wrong? I tried to look up where the boys are staying if not in the dorm. Why isnt anything mentioned by the school or news? How did the family and the kids feel about the hearing aids? Were they taken as "they are trying to fix us" or were they happy to get new equipment? How has the school been since this? I thought it was pretty cool, but I wish they did a follow up on it, how the student feel about the new dorm now they are supposed to have lived in it

not every state has a deaf school. I am going to college to be an interpreter for the deaf there are few states that don't have schools for the deaf

Where do the girls stay?
I am a friend of Ed Roberts (One of the creators) I am pretty sure there is another building off to the side, but it did not need renovations, because it was safe.
@@WehrlybirdProductionsWF I get what you're saying and it makes sense, but honestly I do wish they had done something for the girls dorm, even just more simple things like paint, new bedding, and the light doorbells. Feel like if the boys dorm was in such disrepair, maybe it would have been nice to do something for the girls too. Seems to me like they did this fancy new building for the boys, and the girls, well you get to have this building made in the 60s (according to the schools website, that's when the girls dorm was made) good luck.

"friends of osd" has on it's homepage: THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES OVER TO EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION!!! And that they keep fundraising for the next phase of the dormitory project. The building with the "House of nightmares" had only 15 rooms, so I guess there are several dorm buildings that need to be kept usable.

It is a really good episode, but unfortunately, they actually did it wrong (I don't know exactly what) but they can't even use the dorms. The community is trying to raise money to fix the problems so the dorms will be safe and liveable.
