For your own pleasure you should search UA-cam for the following clip posted by Lupe Fiasco "Lupe Fiasco: Why (And Maybe How) You Should Appreciate Aesop Rock". It's interesting to see his take on Aesop especially since Lupe has serious skills too.
Aes produced this album himself, if a track is not produced him it's most likely to be produced by Blockhead. Also your exactly right, this music video uses the technique called Rotoscoping, which I believe is exactly how they created those ghost dancing videos way back when. Dope reaction as usual! Keep listening, your absolutely right he's an anomaly, but he's also one of the most relatable and human artists out there!
It’s various faces of the spirit world and heavily influenced by hallucinogenic experiences. In “Button Masher” he manages to describe a night in which he was clearly tripping with friends in his apartment and they built a spaceship out of a cardboard box and imagination. “I use a phony voice when I’m yelling “Nobody’s home!” I’m a liar, but I wouldn’t say I’m wrong.”
'It's all jazz, like an alphabet to Saul Bass.' Saul Bass was a famous graphic designer, who designed a lot of opening titles sequences for big Hollywood movies. Including Anatomy of a Murder, which had a killer jazz soundtrack by Duke Ellington.
Aesop literally does not give a single fuck if someone misses what one of his lines is about I think. I think he kind of enjoys that it's something only he will get unless you look Into it or the few people that fall into the niche of the topic.
Hey man! Nice reaction! I was bumping Aesop Rock back in high school in the late 90s. Glad to see new people finding this word wizard. I can suggest some artists from that era if you want
The whole album of 'Spirit World Field Guide' that this track came from are various spiritual/supernatural encounters... and yeah, probably a lot of them were drug-induced, from what I can gather. His stuff takes time to pick apart. Like 'Bratty at the basic anatomy of a deathstare', best I can figure means he's immune to the 'evil eye' or gaze of death.
Ha!! Yo you were an instant sub. It's like being on an rpg for 20 years and seeing a new char sign in explore the game for the first time. Can I please get a couple of reactions to Aseop Rock. 1 for you - Rings , and for me - Supercell. Also, no one out here reacts to Gauze,. but they should. Big ups on the start of your journey!
I'll say it again if it's already been said here but Aesop Rock in his discography has said more unique words rhan any other MC in history there is a literal chart online you can go in and look at that shows this.
You are definitely on track with your breakdown of this song. This song comes off of his album called Spirit World Field Guide. It is a concept album that was born out of his experiences doing ayahuasca in Perú and visiting countries in south east Asia.
I love listening to an ex-EMT talk about this song. This song is about going through something traumatic sometimes excepting what is happening is the best way of dealing with it. As for the character's perspective in this song... He is a ghost. "A glowing orb in the room" "The smell of sulfur" These are all paranormal things.
You’re going down this really great road of Minnesota underground hip hop. Prof, Aesop..I’m so down for it. Sooner or later you’re going to stumble across others like Atmosphere and Dem Atlas..keep on the journey my friend :)
Since you got into 'LICE' you should check out some Homeboy Sandman. Had no idea who he was. 8 yrs later, he's in my top 10. Check out 'Go Hard' but he has a great discog.
This one is literally from his concept album about another realm called the spirit world so it's not as grounded in real meaning as the rest of his stuff although there's still meaning it's just more abstract which is crazy for Aesop to do because even his normal stuff is abstract. Try Gopher Guts. and None Shall Pass. And Pigs. And 39 thieves, and Bring back Pluto. And Water Tower. And Tuff.
So you were right. He takes acid trips. The album spirit world field guide is just that, a field guide to lsd. Let it in means don't fight the high cuz that's what leads to a bad trip. Just let it in and go where it takes you
It's a ghost story from the ghost's perspective. There are references to many movies and books about paranormal getting weird shit. Aes has gone so far into the weird that he died and came back to haunt us.
You might be onto something. I forget the song but in one he lists off a bunch of stuff he likes and at the end he says "I DONT like to talk about the UFO crash."
Best thing about Aesop from the past ten years or so or whenever he last worked with Tobacco is he either made and produced the best himself or Blockhead helped. If Blockhead isn't explicitly in the title it was probably just Aesop, like this track
So happy you’re going deep into Aesop’s catalogue I’ve been a huge fan for close to a decade, definitely smart starting newer it’s definitely easier to understand first listen. Some undeniable classics that I’d like to see you review are Daylight/Nightlight, None Shall Pass, 9-5ers Anthem, Klutz, and the Tugboat Complex Patrts 1-3. other lesser known personal favorites of mine are Commencement at the Obedience Academy (the chorus matches the tattoos he has on his arms), Take Me to the Basement, The Yes and the Yall and The Greatest Pac-Man Victory in History

Don't forget the Malibu Ken album he did with Tobacco producing! Super wonky gritty analog beats. Definitely a unique album.
Aes does most of his own production as far as I know and they are always fiiiire.
Have you listened to the Blob yet? It's all unused beats that Aes produced
@@losxdescabezados Well, I know what I'll be finding and listening to today 🤣

Im so Glad you heard aseop rock 😊😊😊😊
Aes and prof make there beats themselves, prof used aes' beat for bar breaker which you checked out not long ago ✌️
Post None Shall Pass. El-P and Blockhead made most of his beats up until Skelethon.

James has Aesop facts ready to copy paste all times of the day!!
man imagine the crazy bars he throws away when writing this stuff@@TexasGreed
@@juniorc1521 Half of it ends up on his lab apron, as he said.

I've come to think that's a ref to 9/11.

Relisten to NY Electric
Aes is a genius, he's just so good man.... also he did his own beats for that albums
