I watched a documentary about Cantona a few years back. What shocked me was that his second season at United when he'd have been 27, was the first full season he played for one club. Every other year he either got banned, shipped out on loan for behavioral issues or was sold during the season, usually for behavioral issues. Then in his third United season he got banned and the ban actual rolled over into his forth season. Then he played one more year which was his second ever full season then he retired. What a rollercoaster of a career. Fun fact when Marseille signed him from Auxerre he was 21 and it was a ligue 1 transfer record at the time so he was always rated as a guy who could become one of the greats. It just took Fergie to be the one to finally get some semblance of control of him. Even though he did get a nine month ban at United.
Get your facts right. Howard Wilkinson brought him to Leeds and won the league, so it was Wilkinson who brought out the ‘semblance’ in him, not Fergie.
