Absolutely needed in most Evangelical Churches. I love my conservative family but unfortunately there is no room to talk on an intellectual level. I suffer dearly to dumb down to keep peace. The devil is in the details. Both professors West and George embrace a certain set of values, take for example, humility. Do our schools teach humility? And the very selection of "facts" of history are themselves a value judgment. Thus the teaching of what went wrong with the American Dream/Experiment/what-not undermines faith in our social contract. The focus on racial struggle rather than religious struggle, the deaths by lynching rather than the many more deaths by urban crime, the paradigm of majority oppression rather than in-group dysfunction, put a spin on teaching history more effectively than clumsy propaganda. So, while the ability of two scholars to agree to disagree is on some level inspiring, it substitutes feel-good for actual solutions, begging the question of what is to be taught and why.
Why did millions of Evangelical Christians in 2016 allow a wolf to become the shepherd of the flock & surrender the fate of the American people to the mercy of the malicious?
