indycar oval races prove that NASCAR has the worst, lowest-energy commentating in motorsports. compared to the energy and excitement the NBC crew is imparting here
Indycar made its name on big giant ovals, and while I don’t wanna that back completely, the sport is much safer now. As a Missouri resident I get the luxury of Gateway being close, but I’d love more ovals on the schedule. Maybe a Milwaukee or a Homestead.
Las Vegas, Michigan, homestead, Kansas, Kentucky. Not all gonna happen but I can hope. I also hope they can get the prime time tv window so the Texas, Iowa, and gateway races can be at night again because that produces better racing.
My personal ovals list: 1. Michigan, because we already lost Fontana, and we need another superspeedway for Indycar to race on. 2. Charlotte, because we can combo this with the roval config for double the fun, 2 for 1 special over 2 weeks. 3. That Argentinian oval, because its a 2 and 7/8 mile paperclip superspeedway that scream speed and Indycar can capitalize on the hype that Augustin Canapino is generating now. 4. Homestead, because ofc we can't ignore the fan and driver requested track too.
Here Are My Oval Track Picks That IndyCar Should Return To Their Schedule: The Milwaukee Mile Richmond Raceway Pikes Peak International Raceway Homestead-Miami Speedway Chicagoland Speedway Kentucky Speedway Dover Motor Speedway Phoenix Raceway New Hampshire Motor Speedway Charlotte Motor Speedway (Either The Oval Track Layout Itself Or The Roval.)
I was asked by a buddy to go to this race as we live about 30 min from TMS... I said haha nah I'm good... I turned the race on maybe halfway through... man did I make a mistake. This was a RACE!
I was at this race (Texas is my home track as I live in Dallas) and I always go to IndyCar every year just because of the sheer speed they go. IndyCar always puts on a good show even with the reconfiguration. I think it’s sad that IndyCar isn’t as popular as NASCAR because it’s so diverse, has good officiating, has great racing and great championship fights desire not doing any gimmicky playoff format, and purely rewards the best driver. NASCAR and F1 could learn a lot from the NTT IndyCar Series. I would love for them to get more ovals!
As a NASCAR man myself, I’m becoming much much more of an Indycar fan because the organizers are actually listening to the drivers and fans while Steve Phelps and Mike Helton are driving NASCAR to an early grave.
Pikes peak, Chicagoland, Kansas, Loudon, Homestead, Kentucky, Nashville, Milwaukee, Michigan, and even Pocono. There are tons of great ovals that just get ignored. Unfortunately Indycar just isn't built with ovals in mind right now. The development series don't touch ovals, the drivers have been pushing against ovals for safety reasons (even though the cars have aeroscreens entirely because of ovals.)
Having been a indycar fan for life I think that the old C.A.R.T formula of half road/street courses and the other half ovals was great. Since NASCAR has sold off most of Fontana, Michigan is still a good one, but a couple of short tracks would be good. Also 20 + race season would be really nice. Hopefully the Captain will be able to make it happen.
I grew up going to Indy Car races at Trenton and Langhorne ovals. I loved them, but look at the half empty stands. It was a great race. I hope they made TV money.
Man, that Texas race was WILD yesterday! I got to see one Indy care race at Kentucky Speedway (the last one they ran there), and to this day it's probably the best event I saw at that track, and I had Cup series tickets every year. Kudos to the TV announcing team, as they really seemed to understand the moment in their calls too.
Thanks for sharing! I would love to see more oval races in IndyCar, including a return to my home track of Pocono. IndyCar should also return to Michigan (for a 500-mile race), Milwaukee, Pikes Peak, and Richmond. Not only that, but IndyCar should bring back the Triple Crown with Indy, Michigan, and Pocono (which were the Triple Crown tracks in the 1980s).
I'm so glad that race was awesome in Motorsports fans are recognizing it. I really think that race alone is going to boost a popularity of indycar. I'm very fortunate that I live near Gateway and I've got to attend the last two races. I think Milwaukee would be cool homestead would be cool Richmond would be cool.
Dixon told in a interview he wanted more ovals in Indycar, but i'm a few worred about this since because Vegas 2011 and Pocono 2019,i love oval racing but drivers security are important too
We need the schedule to be 50% ovals and 50% road and street courses. And also, we need to bring back the road and street course trophy and the oval trophy.
I would like to see 22 races with 8 on ovals. Add Michigan and Pocono and bring back the 500 mile Triple Crown, also add Milwaukee. If they can't run at New Texas, then go back to Homestead. I like the current lineup of US/Canada road and street courses, but add races in Argentina and Mexico to build additional international interest. Competing with F1 like they did in the early '90s is highly unlikely anytime in the near future and perhaps a fool's errand. However, I can see them becoming the Western Hemisphere's open wheel series if they do it right (which, of course, they have almost always managed to do it wrong).
That was one helluva race! I went home to my momma's house to watch and we were both bolding out breaths for the 2nd half of the race. I'd like to order another plate of what Texas served this weekend please!
I think we need more international races as well. Twin-Ring Motegi should come back, I think we should go to Australia, Brazil, Mexico City, possibly even Spain!
Honestly, i would love if the additional ovals just added to the overall number of races. i dont really want any races to be removed except for maybe Nashville
When S1ap made his short track problem video, I commented that converting a mile and a half to a short track would tick off Indycar fans. I got replies from Indycar fans saying that they didn’t want any more mile and a halves on the schedule. I wonder if their opinions have changed after watching yesterday’s race?
Who the heck said that?? This is literally the only speedway other than Indy right now. I love me some Iowa and Gateway, but IndyCars were MADE for big fast tracks.
Trying to turn indycar into a direct f1 competitor would be stupid. The ovals are the main thing differentiating it, and they need to lean into that and capitalise. You dont have to replace a racing series. Just provide a different one with its own unique aspects
Chicagoland, Homestead and Richmond make a lot of sense. The first two have 20 degrrees or less banking, which is what Txas has in turn 1/2 and their both wide tracks, leaving lots of room for 2 and 3 wide racing on restarts, then spreading out the field on long runs due to the old, worn surface. Richmond is an obvious one for the size and the worn surface.
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld That would be another good option. That track escaped my mind when I was thinking about the larger ovals, so I didn't think to mention in. Good call.
Very controversial, but I would suggest Lausitzring in Germany. Even if one of my favourite drivers ever lost his legs there. I'm interested at how these safer cars would do on one of the very few ovals in Europe. Same goes fpr NASCAR if they wanna try new stages.
Milwaukee & Indy Car go back way before CART days. Oldest track next to Indy. 1903. Had open wheel racing there up till 2016. My dad started going there in 1946. Open wheel racing then. I went from 1971 through last race in July 2015.
MILWAUKEE Mile Races in the 80's was grown man racing. Wasn't for kids drive hard or get driven off the track. It's historic Mario AJ Johnny Rutherford the Unsers even back to Vukavich. That's what makes winning a race and winning a RACE.
Conor Daly hit the nail on the head about the Vegas 2011 race. Yes, it was tragic and horrific what happened, but we should have learned from it, not boycott most ovals because they're dangerous. All circuits are technically dangerous if you're going to play that card. With the way the cars are now and how they're set up to run on ovals, I honestly believe they could run at Vegas now and do it safely. They're not the same death traps they were back in 2011. Sadly, I don't see more ovals being added to the schedule in the future though. I hope I'm wrong about that.
They’re looking at Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina, why not go to Rafaela while they’re there? It’s only a nearly 3 mile long paperclip oval with low banking and some chicanes
YES Indy car definitely need a couple more ovals there are so many options but if I personally could pick we should bring back Richmond, Michigan and definitely go back to Las Vegas
Texas, Iowa, Indy and Gateway are already in place But add Rockingham, NC Germany, Japan, Chicagoland, Charlotte (Oval), Homestead, Richmond, Las Vegas, Michigan, Mexico, Kentucky, Milwaukee, Pocono, Nazareth, Fontana, New Hampshire, Kansas, Phoenix, Dover, South Africa, Australia, Italy, Pikes Peak, Nashville Fairgrounds, New Zealand, Taiwan, France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Bahrian, Argentina and Angola IndyCar should get 36 races on ovals both domestic and international
If I had to choose 4 new/returning tracks that should be on the schedule, I would go with Homestead, Chicagoland, Las Vegas since the cars were redesigned, and Kentucky. Although for Kentucky, I think Indycar and NASCAR should do a collaboration and reconfigure the track to benefit both sports needs. As for a wild card that many might not think of…Rockingham.
I’d like to see the Milwaukee mile and Michigan return to the schedule for sure. Maybe the Atlanta oval. Also the Daytona road course would be interesting. Texas was awesome, I just hope it doesn’t get repaved again the track surface was perfect, hell even the truck race the day before was pretty good too.
Conor Daly makes a fair point in my view. Take the location where Ayrton Senna was killed in 1994, Imola, aka Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. The awful weekend that was the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix was one of the most shocking race weekends F1 had ever seen (not just Senna's fatal accident, but Austrian rookie, Roland Ratzenberger also lost his life that weekend, the day before Senna, and there was generally an unusual amount of incidents and big accidents that left drivers, spectators or mechanics in hospital). However, aside from a period from 2007-2020 where it fell off the schedule for financial reasons, if anyone entertains the idea of Imola being dropped today, there'd be a lot of sad faces if it was dropped because the atmosphere created by the local Italian fans, the Tifosi (as Imola is the closest F1 track to Ferrari's HQ in Maranello) is what makes the weekend so enjoyable, they create an atmosphere few can match and it's a beautiful and accessible location, a short walk from the village of Imola itself. The fact that Imola 1994 keeps being brought up, especially when they almost immediately afterwards set about avoiding a repeat occurrence by modifying the track layout (chicanes were added in some parts and removed from others), showing how seriously they took safety, is unfair on Imola as a race track. Going back to Indycar, I think Vegas, Pocono and Watkins Glenn would be great additions to the schedule
Chicagoland was Indycars bread and butter. And last I checked NASCAR could care less about that track. Also don't discount Indycar at Bristol. They used to race at Dover!
Personally this is what I want to see in a motor race. I get zero satisfaction from seeing a terrifying crash and the resulting halt in the action. I want to see the speed. Watching cars trundle around under caution really kills it for me. F1 is my first love, and I understand the importance of safety, but the recent Aussie GP was a travesty. Thanks for the coverage I hate I missed such a great race.
With MIS being my home track, I would love to have it back on the Indycar schedule. And Pocono would be a welcome return if they get the aero package correct.
Fans: More ovals and more HP. Drivers: More ovals and more HP Indycar: Less ovals and less HP Oval attendance heavily rely on driver popularity. There are no popular drivers currently because Indycar won't market their drivers. I personally wish for a 50/50 schedule, I hope penske figures it out!
Indycar could go to Chicagoland, Homestead, Kansas, Michigan, Richmond, the repaved Rockingham Speedway (US), Kentucky, New Hampshire (DOUBLE BIRD), Milwaukee Mile, Autódromo Miguel E. Abed (Mexico) or even Las Vegas or Pocono. Sadly Rockingham (UK) or Motegi (Japan) are out of the question
The problem with wanting more ovals from what i understand is the lack of ovals that will let IndyCar race. When most are owned by nascar theyre not going to want their competition to potentially take from them. I'd like to see an oval in Mexico though. Pato has been lobbying to get a race there for awhile and they do have a few tracks that might work
In 2004, during The Split, the IRL schedule was ALL ovals...and I'm not saying we should go back to that. But I think the schedule should be at least half ovals and half road and street courses. For starters, Milwaukee is SUPPOSED to be the week after Indy. Bring that back, along with Michigan, Richmond, and Homestead.
While I agree, the tracks want NASCRAP instead. I get it, $. I loved IndyCar at Kentucky, but they got NASCRAP and didn’t make room for IndyCar. I’m glad they went under. F*** ‘em.
I've been craving more oval racing in Indycar for like 2 years now. I think I would be more invested in the sport itself if Indycar had more oval racing because there are quite frankly too many road course races on the schedule and having more oval races for Indycar can help increase TV ratings. The oval tracks I believe Indycar should go to are Las Vegas, of course, Kansas, Homestead, Charlotte, and maybe Chicagoland.
Somewhat to my surprise, I really enjoyed IndyCar's Texas oval race. I'm not totally opposed to oval racing, but my bias is that races on road courses are more fun to watch, at least on TV. That's true for NASCAR as well - I enjoy their rare forays onto road courses much more than ovals - the occasional right turn makes for more interesting racing.
To me, MIS seems like a no brainer. Close enough to Indiana to attract the core fanbase. Also Conor is spot on, Indianapolis has had so many deaths but we all love it, racing is dangerous that's kinda part of it.

Outside of the track, another thing that I would like is to see back again the old CART Series Scoring Points system (20-16-14-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, 1 point for pole, 1 point for the most laps led). Then we could have more engine suppliers, bringing back Ford, Toyota, Mercedes... More fans on the grandstands than yesterday and at that point it would be a perfect championship!
Apart from this, we have already a great show and a great racing, F1 should learn a lot from Indycar on how to make great racing and don't cause a rigged mess!
indycar oval races prove that NASCAR has the worst, lowest-energy commentating in motorsports. compared to the energy and excitement the NBC crew is imparting here
The nascar on nbc crew is exciting
Indycar made its name on big giant ovals, and while I don’t wanna that back completely, the sport is much safer now. As a Missouri resident I get the luxury of Gateway being close, but I’d love more ovals on the schedule. Maybe a Milwaukee or a Homestead.
Las Vegas, Michigan, homestead, Kansas, Kentucky. Not all gonna happen but I can hope. I also hope they can get the prime time tv window so the Texas, Iowa, and gateway races can be at night again because that produces better racing.
My personal ovals list:
Here Are My Oval Track Picks That IndyCar Should Return To Their Schedule:
The Milwaukee Mile
Richmond Raceway
Pikes Peak International Raceway
Homestead-Miami Speedway
Chicagoland Speedway
Kentucky Speedway
Dover Motor Speedway
Phoenix Raceway
New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Charlotte Motor Speedway (Either The Oval Track Layout Itself Or The Roval.)
Milwaukee, Richmond, Dover. 1 Mike tracks are great for Indycar. The 1.5 tracks are where the danger starts
That and the sheer amount of respect these men have for each other.
Milwaukee goes back a lot further than the 1980s. AAA Champ CARS, USAC, CART, IRL, all raced there from 1937-2015
Having been a indycar fan for life I think that the old C.A.R.T formula of half road/street courses and the other half ovals was great.
YES, their TV crew is top notch.
They absolutely need more ovals. Let me see Pocono, Miami, &…..Michigan for some spice.
Ovals: Homestead, Richmond, Milwaukee, and maybe Michigan
Road/Street: Cleveland. I am unwavering in that hope
Yes Indycar needs more ovals especially going to Michigan, Richmond, Rockingham, and Charlotte
Indycar would beat nascar
It really should. It sets it apart from F1 and there’s a renewing interest in oval racing in the US these days! This was such a good race!!
IndyCar is so underrated, completely forgot to watch the Texas race but it seems like it was a good one. I agree, a few more ovals would be nice.
What an absolute HEATER of a race that was. Really love to see it.
Pato almost lapped the whole field! That was crazy!
And yes to Milwaukee Mile!!!
When S1ap made his short track problem video, I commented that converting a mile and a half to a short track would tick off Indycar fans. I got replies from Indycar fans saying that they didn’t want any more mile and a halves on the schedule. I wonder if their opinions have changed after watching yesterday’s race?
As an IndyCar fanatic, I’ve always been for more big tracks way before it was cool
IndyCar should race at Nashville Superspeedway.
@@runrafarunthebestintheworld That would be another good option. That track escaped my mind when I was thinking about the larger ovals, so I didn't think to mention in. Good call.
Texas to Nascar fans: 🤮🤢
Texas to Indy car fans: 😍🥰
We don’t like Texas, but we are amazingly grateful to have an amazing race yesterday. But I’m hoping for a reconfiguration after 2023!
Milwaukee was an AAA and USAC mainstay as well and almost always right after the Indy 500
Oldest track in the world!
MILWAUKEE Mile
Races in the 80's was grown man racing.
IndyCar NEVER wants to go back to LVMS after 2011.
Texas, Iowa, Indy and Gateway are already in place
But add Rockingham, NC
Germany, Japan, Chicagoland, Charlotte (Oval), Homestead, Richmond, Las Vegas, Michigan, Mexico, Kentucky, Milwaukee, Pocono, Nazareth, Fontana, New Hampshire, Kansas, Phoenix, Dover, South Africa, Australia, Italy, Pikes Peak, Nashville Fairgrounds, New Zealand, Taiwan, France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Bahrian, Argentina and Angola
IndyCar should get 36 races on ovals both domestic and international
I really miss seeing Indycar at Michigan and Milwaukee. Those tracks are considered the cornerstones.
I'm about an hour and a half away from Charlotte and would love to see indycar race there.
I was at the last INDYCAR race at Pocono in 2019.
Chicagoland and Michigan lets go back!!
Throw one in NASCAR's face at the same time!
Homestead and Richmond would be awesome additions to the schedule
I’d like to see the Milwaukee mile and Michigan return to the schedule for sure. Maybe the Atlanta oval. Also the Daytona road course would be interesting. Texas was awesome, I just hope it doesn’t get repaved again the track surface was perfect, hell even the truck race the day before was pretty good too.
Make Texas a 500-mle race, re-add Kentucky at 500k, Milwaukee at 200-250, and rotate between Pocono and Michigan every other year for a third 500.
I was lucky enough to see it in person, this was incredible!
Chicagoland, Milwaukee, Richmond and Las Vegas. And I would remove 1 Iowa Race as well. Daly’s response to race in Las Vegas was perfect
They are never gonna go to back to vegas though tbf
I wish they would come back to Kentucky. I know that track gets a lot hate but I want my home state to have a big race again.
Chicagoland was Indycars bread and butter. And last I checked NASCAR could care less about that track.
Also don't discount Indycar at Bristol. They used to race at Dover!
Bring Chicagoland back
How about Rockingham North Carolina race? Pfft
I don't know about you guys, but I loved that the Texas race was 2-hours long. NASCAR needs to consider 2-hour races.
if you want shorter races, watch the Busch and Truck races
This race just looked fast and intense.
I would love a 20 race season with five of each. Road, street, short, and speedway.
indycar won’t do short tracks
@@gothard5Iowa Speedway is a short track and it puts on excellent racing.
Definitely for ovals. I would love to see Michigan. Imagine if they come back to US 500 name and we’ll have it alongside Indy in one schedule
With MIS being my home track, I would love to have it back on the Indycar schedule. And Pocono would be a welcome return if they get the aero package correct.
More ovals! Homestead, Richmond, Pocono, Milwaukee/New Hampshire, Michigan, Kansas. All tracks that have some Indycar history
One of the best races ive seen all year in all forms of motorsports.. Including Dirt Sprint Car. If they bring us more ovals i wouldnt miss a race
Fans: More ovals and more HP.
Drivers: More ovals and more HP
Indycar: Less ovals and less HP
Oval attendance heavily rely on driver popularity.
They should definitely go to Chicagoland
IndyCar should go to Rockingham in North Carolina. That would be interesting.
Make is a 20 race schedule - add Fontana, Pocono and return to Vegas and call it the Wheldon 300.
The problem with wanting more ovals from what i understand is the lack of ovals that will let IndyCar race. When most are owned by nascar theyre not going to want their competition to potentially take from them. I'd like to see an oval in Mexico though. Pato has been lobbying to get a race there for awhile and they do have a few tracks that might work
Chicagoland, Michigan, Pocono, Milwaukee, and Vegas would all be fantastic to see on the schedule. I would also love to see Martinsville.
Remember when the Indy schedule used to be ALL ovals, circa 2003???
Circa 1911 to 1965 too
It would be smart from TMS if they shift their focus fully to Indycar.
They can race Properly there without sealant, resin or PJ1 unlike Nascar.
Before the 1960s it was also all ovals.
Heck before the 1950s it was all dirt except for the one track paved with bricks...
I feel complete now that great racing has been restored to Texas
Best Texas race since 2016
