As a fan of the book series, I think the actors (and costume designers, and set designers) did brilliantly. I just think the writing could have been better. It’s difficult to condense such a fantastical world and detailed book into one movie, but I feel like some integral parts of the characters have been removed (such as Sophie clearly being evil from the beginning and her chilling act in the Doom Room, Agatha’s awkwardness and journey towards learning to love herself, how fun and developed the other side characters and teachers were). Though the movie looks gorgeous, the world itself doesn’t feel very… grounded. I expected the rules for who is in good and who is in evil (the good help, the evil hurt. The good love, the evil hate) to be clearly established so that the switch at the end would make more sense and wouldn’t feel as sudden as it did in the movie. Those rules would have also helped establish how Agatha and Sophie truly belong in their respective schools by providing an outline. But this is just my opinion and I’m glad people enjoyed the movie. To whoever watched the movie but hasn’t read the books yet, please do! They’re so much fun and Soman’s writing is so engaging.
Totally agree! I wish they’d made it a series, where they would include more of the important scenes, especially the Circus of Talents!! I was looking forward to that scene so baaaad :’)

Definetly agreed! I was super looking forward to how nemesis dreams would be handled as well, but they were cut completely. I’d would still watch it again, and probably will, but I would prefer they pay a little bit more homage to the source material
As someone who’s read and reread the books, I think it would have been better as a series/miniseries. They could have fit more into like what Sophie did in the doom room and the red “f” on her dress. But overall, as someone who also likes analyzing movies I think they did a pretty decent job at condensing as many ideas as possible, considering the fact that no matter what, its gonna be impossible to get it completely right. But overall, I think it was just time.
they really are the perfect cast for Agatha and Sophie.
I am so utterly in love with Sophia's voice, it's slightly maddening. All throughout the movie there were these moments where I couldn't get enough of certain a way she said something, and I kept replaying them a million times. It's truly mesmerizing.

While some aspects of this movie were great, I had a huge issue with it establishing it's own world. I thought it had so much potential in the costuming and set design, but what really took me out of it was the addition of modern day music. This is not a modern world so everytime it would play a modern day song it would take me out of the world. It would've been so much better for it to have its own music score created. There were other things I had issues with, but I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet.

I'm going to be honest. I did not care for the books. I thought they were okay at best. However, the Netflix adaptation was awesome and I loved every minute of it. If you liked the movie definitely give the books a shot. It wasn't my cup of tea but they were just as entertaining as the movie and had so much more detail.
Anyone else got annoyed by the fact they didn’t include the Tedros and Agatha scene when Tedros caught Agatha dancing with Sophie? Yup. Pretty much my fav part in the entire book. Oh, and the part when Tedros said “definitely a princess” and “look closer”. Gosh the movie didn’t include a SINGLE one of my fav parts…..

That’s why you don’t put your back to the cage against a powerful striker like Alex. Izzy should have used his footwork and circled out to the center of the cage kept his distance and attacked at long range with straight punches,teap kicks and low kicks maybe even some oblique kicks here and there. It sucks that he blew a 3 rounds to 1 lead but he’ll comeback and be better next time….. hopefully.🤷🏾♂️
Honestly, look wise they sophia anne cruso was perfect but as far as sophia wylie's look they could've make her look worse, I fell like her character was didn't have much of agatha except her name, the axes scene, angle wasn't even right, axes cudve been bigger. Like it seems like budget was big but the result is actually underwhelming.
