      @@Hingusbingus4 Maybe you're ready, but probably not. The message will be heard when we've got the ears to hear it, is what I've come to understand. There were so many dimensions of human morality that we just aren't ready as a people to comprehend, let alone put into practice. Humanity is always changing, moving hopefully towards the good; but God can only speak to us in the language we understand. We're not even doing on a civilizational level the things we already know to be right, so I'm not hopeful we'll get that message any time soon either. Regardless, in the meantime we should try putting into practice the things that are clearly known to be moral, and see if we can't become the type of civilization capable of accepting more than we've already been given.

    So a woman was the first to see and talk to Satan, the first to see and talk to god, and the first to see and talk to the resurrected Jesus.
    That’s interesting.

      Whilst I wish that was the case, wouldn't Adam have been the first person to see and talk to God?

    • @rainbowkrampus
      @rainbowkrampus 2 місяці тому +3

      @@johnburn8031 That kinda depends on your conception of the whole Adam/Eve dichotomy.
      Modern interpretations have it as Adam and Eve being wholly separate beings. But there have been interpretations going way back of Adam and Eve being a single entity which was then split by Bible god. Dan has talked previously about how the word being used there is not "rib" but "side", meaning effectively the other side of the body.
      So in a sense, yes. But also in a sense no, as Eve was there too.

    • @Haki145
      @Haki145 2 місяці тому

      @@rainbowkrampusI mean the point of that event is that the woman came from the man, there is some kind of wordplay with the hebrew words here and I believe there is a passage that explicitly mentions something along the lines of "for women came from men, and not the other way around", with the context attempting to justify a male superiority.
      So I don't buy this "they were a single entity thing". A part of Adam became Eve through YHWH's intervention. Not only that, she was created with the specific intention of being a companion to Adam (in one of the creation accounts, of course)
      This is my opinion.

    • @ronjones1414

      @@johnburn8031 Genesis never specifically says that Adam saw God. Adam is the first to speak to God when he said, "I heard you in the garden..." I have always considered the commandment in Genesis 2:16 to be face to face, but if you want to be pedantic about it, the book doesn't say that.
      I really don't think the group of pre-Yahwist Shaman's putting this together on their way to the Levant from Mesopotamia were all that concerned or even sophisticated enough to realize that these differences exist; but you know, we need some reason to kill each other.

    I can think of at least three ways to define "first." First in order of scholarly estimated date of authorship, first left-to-right in traditional ordering of a given canon's sequence of books, or first in terms of a univocally presupposed ordering of the historical events. However, even the first definition presupposes a canon.

    Scholars also discovered that Hagar is also the ancestor of Hagarites a proto-arabic tribe in the Levant.
    In fact The Bible tells stories of peoples and nations through fictional characters who represent them. These are called foundation stories.
    Consequently, the Bible explains how the proto-Arab tribes were the first to worship the god Yahweh.

    This is something of a conflation. The bible depends on source documents that make up part of the body of work, but is not beholden to them. The bible is not just compilation, it's a single work telling a single story. The source documents have been edited accordingly to reflect the larger story being told. This is the duty of the community who transmits the bible, and thus the stories. If there was some long-lost source where Hagar sees God and not an angel, we simply don't have it in the bible. In that case, Hagar's not the first person to see God in the bible which is the finished product of the community charged with keeping the holy bible.
