But there have been interpretations going way back of Adam and Eve being a single entity which was then split by Bible god. Dan has talked previously about how the word being used there is not "rib" but "side", meaning effectively the other side of the body. So in a sense, yes. But also in a sense no, as Eve was there too.

This is something of a conflation. The bible depends on source documents that make up part of the body of work, but is not beholden to them. The bible is not just compilation, it's a single work telling a single story. The source documents have been edited accordingly to reflect the larger story being told. This is the duty of the community who transmits the bible, and thus the stories. If there was some long-lost source where Hagar sees God and not an angel, we simply don't have it in the bible. In that case, Hagar's not the first person to see God in the bible which is the finished product of the community charged with keeping the holy bible.
