I was on a waiting list from Altamont for months for the Colt King Cobra, I finally got the grips in and WOW. Redwood with snake scales and Colt lasered in the grips, Love it!!

I have owned a new generation Colt Cobra since 2017 when they were re-introduced. I have used this 2017 Cobra for both target practice at the range and real-world concealed carry. Over the nearly past 7 years I have shot thousands of rounds of 38 Special and never had one single issue. The trigger is by far better than the original old Cobra from decades ago and this gun is extremely accurate. The only con is the cheap rubber grips, but Hogue makes some outstanding solid wood grips. All in all, the New Cobra is an outstanding gun and is a huge improvement over the original.

I have the 2", 3" and 4.25" target King Cobras. Excellent quality revolvers with double actions that are soooooo buttery smooth. Probably the best 6 shot 2" carry revolver available. I put the Wilson Combat green fiber optic front site on my 2" and carry in a Galco OWB snap holster.

Thank you for the wonderful review. I was lucky that the shop I visited in Louisville had four different models available. I took snap caps with me for the demo and the triggers were excellent. Identical across the 2 and 3” models. I didn’t try the target version. I had my sights set on the 3”, but after handling them I bought the 2” carry. Same as the model in your video. I am absolutely thrilled with the design, feel, and finish of this revolver. As if I cheated history and was able to purchase a classic, hand fitted old-world DA revolver. My best factory ammo group at 21’ has been Sierra 158gr sjhp (sports master bullet) closely followed by Barnes 140gr VOR-TX and Hornady 158gr XTP. My copy seems to prefer heavier bullets. AE 158gr jsp has been my favorite range load. Of all these, only the Sierra had tight case ejection, which isn’t a big deal to me. Recoil wasn’t bad either, but I’ve been spending a lot of time with my Smith Model 69 so my perception might be skewed. I’m so happy with the King Cobra that I have to buy a 4” Anaconda now.

Had a colt cobra. Spent $800 and the cylinder would spin free in the frame. Was ready to fill out the paperwork to return it. When the colt representative on the phone said, put it in a box inside of a box and don’t let UPS or FedEx know you’re shipping a gun.

I had the chance to hold & feel this awwsome wheeler at the gunshow here inPhilippines. But the price costs double so I couldn’t afford it. Instead I got the ALFA PROJ Mag 357 wich is a lot cheaper than king cobra. Thanks for this beautiful piece! I hope someday I can afford one.

I had a 3" and in some dryfire it broke. Sent to Colt 4 months later returned told good to go and dryfire is fine. Pulled the trigger less than 50 times over a few weeks BROKE AGAIN. local gunsmith installed some springs and I consigned it. Someone purchased the revolver took it to a range shot the revolver broke again ( at least he was able to shoot it i never did). Sent to Colt then the shop sold it again unknown after that. I wont buy a Colt revolver (new) because of the bad experience noted

I was about to purchase the Kimber, but when I picked up the KC, I really liked the trigger much better, and it certainly is a looker too....now I have the KC, a Python in 4.25 & the Anaconda in a 6" version. I do recommend getting a fiber optic front site.

Mom has the 3”, not bad, 357 is a bit much for the rents so they stick w 38… I hate the rubber grips and the look of the enlarged trigger guard but works for what it’s for. Went w a 6” python myself, prob go for a 3” as well.

I got an SP101 a year ago over the King Cobra because the KC was newer and less proven, and I wanted something absolutely 100% reliable and tough that can stand up to a steady diet of 357. Well, my SP101 is back at Ruger for the 3rd time now for as many issues. Wish I got the King Cobra instead.

Very well spoken review with nothing negative to say except for the Kimber!! Lol not a fan!! However i have both the 38 & 357 2" polished stainless of the Cobra's!! The 38 goes to the range most of the time depending on ammo. 357 & 38 spl was pretty hard to get through the pandemic. I can't ask for a better pair for training because i can shoot 38 and 357 out of the King!
Some people will get a similar pair but not quite the same thing with a 22 & a 357 for training! Too much power separation in my opinion. I think only Ruger sells a same size part polimar revolver in different caliber out of the same model. At a price point the Colts are spot on out of the box with nothing to do but change the grips if you were inclined 🤷✌️

Lucky Gunner has Buffalo Bore 357 XPB 125gr at 1425 FPS average with 16in penetration out of a 2in barrel. I’d say thats more than adequate for a snub nose 357, if you practice and can handle it.

  • @josephmiani8328

I had a three inch version ( trigger return mechanism failed after 2200 rounds) and I bought the two inch to carry. Big mistake. The trigger return mechanism failed several times , rendering it inoperative. I would not recommend this gun to anyone who wants to use for self defense/personal protection. The designers can’t seem to fix this mechanism to the point of making it reliable. The Kimber K6S that I own has close to 10,000 rounds through it without one failure to fire or function and my Kimber has no cylinder ring on it.
The Kimber trigger is very small, making it somewhat uncomfortable to shoot for long periods. The Colt trigger is very comfortable, when it works properly.

Likely trigger return spring. Happened on my KC as well. Went from my favorite revo to untrusted; and we're not alone with this issue. Python has been totally reliable. Colts trigger pull is great, actual shoe is IMO to narrow. Thinking of a Kimber revolver & Glad to hear youve had no troubles. Heard rumors of firing pin issues is my only reservation.

The sad truth about the gun market is over 90 percent of gun owners will never even shoot 2,200 rounds through any of their guns throughout their lifetime. The people that shoot frequently always have a new gun to try so they never stick with one thing.

First the grips are the weak link on this revolver. I hate Hogue grips, and in my opinion they fit this revolver like a goiter. They also made Colt not include a stock pin like older Colts. Once one is placed you can fit older style grips. Most of my Colt Dframe have service style grips and styler t grip. That makes for a compact shootable, concealable revolver. I have a 3 inch 90s vintage DS2, and that one is fitted with the slightly longer grips found on the late70s Police Positive 4 inch revolver.

my dads 3" king cobra is a piece of crap. had to be sent back to colt right out of the box for a new hammer and now the Cylinder release doesnt close on its own. Doesnt even have a box of ammo through it. If your going to spend that kind of money find a NOS Detective Special. I paid $800 for my NOS in the box DS. has factory hammer shroud on it too. Once he gets it back hes trading it in.
