Grew up in Chilliwack and remember Nicks ad slogan for his company Stone or brick call Nick and if I remember correctly he was a good fast ball pitcher, great memories and nice video.
Very nice video Rod! Very authentic, informative and it's always a pleasure to watch them, I've never been disappointed. As the months go by, we can see you're constantly improving your work. Keep going! Cheers!
Great video. Your videos are without a doubt some of the best instructional videos I've come across trying to learn how to fish in the Pacific Northwest. I'm planning on trying this float method this summer for steelhead on a couple rivers (Wilson, McKenzie). I have a couple questions. How do you know the presentation is in the right depth in the river? Also, do you have a video like this but for drift fishing for Steelhead? I'm curios in that method too. 1 Question about that method, how dow the weight that bounces off the bottom not scare the fish? Thanks!
The good old pilings run, pulled many a Steelhead out of that water. Sadly it has since moved away from that area. Constant digging of gravel and leaving lake pools after, causes drastic changes.
Any good how-to videos you know of? Been out 4 times now and still no luck. I’m fishing the Salmon River in New York. New to float fishing, using a 9’6” Okuma rod with a spinning reel. I am not new to trout fishing but new to float fishing. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Not sure if it’s my drift, depth or what. Any info would be great. Just trying to put some chrome on my line.
Hey Rod, I was wondering if during late december until mid january hitting spots mid river and upper river would be worth it for steelhead? Or should efforts that early be put lower river? Thank you
HI Rod quick question do I need a special license to fish in the Chilliwack and Fraser Rivers besides the regular fresh water license. My son and I are just catch and release type. We are from Kelowna BC and hold licenses to fish the Okanagan
This was filmed five years ago and since the river changes every year, this spot no longer exists. The river still flows through, but it just looks nothing like it.
Shaun, the Chilliwack/Vedder River's winter steelhead fishery is not a strictly catch and release fishery. Among these steelhead there are hatchery fish which you are allowed to retain if you wish. As you can see in this video, most of the fish that the gentlemen caught were wild fish so had to be released. If I remember correctly there was one hatchery fish among the catches but it was not that fresh so it was best to release it.
Fishing with Rod ok thx champ. one last question. are u coming out with more content soon. all of ur videos are very well done. would love to see more. maybe do some spear fishing. i could see u going all Tarzan on the fish. ur partner too haha jk
@@FishingwithRod That's why I have never seen it. This really is a fascinating part of river fishing, the changes in the river bed over time. Something I never realized before.
Two knowledgeable and respectful fishermen passionately exchange knowledge out on the river, I absolutely love it!
Glad you enjoy it!

glad to see how well you treat the fish before returning them it gives them a good chance to survive after a fight for their lives. Thanks
Thanks. The welfare of any fish is always our primary concern when making these videos. :)
Nice video Rod, especially like the addition Chris' blooper at the end
Always gotta be careful with what you're doing when around me with the camera... ;)
this is therapeutic

beauty fish guys!! Way ta giver
Thanks Matt!
curious what rod Nick is using? Thanks

The gravel extractions have now been stopped, for the time being anyway.
Nice video! Thanks!
This is nice

try 3-4 feet distance between your float and hook. Seems to be the most effective, as the strike zone is about 30 degrees above the head of the fish.
Santa is fishing here disguised as a local angler :)
Haha... Nick should totally dress up as Santa this month and fish in front of the camera one day. ;)
@@FishingwithRod Great idea! cant wait to see him :)
Awesome Batbelt
Hey Rod, I was wondering if during late december until mid january hitting spots mid river and upper river would be worth it for steelhead? Or should efforts that early be put lower river? Thank you
I think it really depends on the river level. If it is high, then you're likely to find fish further upstream. If it is low, focus in the lower river.
was the first fish factory fish? if i would kill it.
love your videos Rod and keep up the good work :)
That's correct, the first fish was a hatchery-marked fish so you are allowed to keep it.
ok
Hey rod r u able to do a video this year for capilano coho beach fishing?
Most likely not this year.
+Fishing with Rod ok, will u hav any salmon vids soon tho
Yes we will.
capilano coho beach fishing is not so easy or frequent as I observed.
HI Rod quick question do I need a special license to fish in the Chilliwack and Fraser Rivers besides the regular fresh water license. My son and I are just catch and release type. We are from Kelowna BC and hold licenses to fish the Okanagan
Weekend Warriors B.C just freshwater license with a steelhead tag if your going for them or salmon for salmonoid
andrew spasojevic thanks for the info Andrew hopefully this year I'll catch something down there
Weekend Warriors B.C oh just make sure if you go west of the mission bridge on the Fraser you get tidal
Thanks a lot for this info Andrew. Not many fisherman want to share their secrets lol
What set up were they using? Like what weight is the line, etc.
Pretty standard river float fishing setup which is explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/RKut56wHhFM/v-deo.html
Ok thank you!
Were about is this on the vedder
Lower River. :)
@@FishingwithRod thanks
What set up to use at Lake Michigan now around Chicago?
Blood mark No idea. I’ve never been there.
This is just outside of Vancouver bc on Canada's west coast. Around 120 miles north of Seattle just different style of fishing
what rod?
Learn a lot thanks .
You're welcome. :)
Where is this spot? Just preparing for that steelhead trip
This was filmed five years ago and since the river changes every year, this spot no longer exists. The river still flows through, but it just looks nothing like it.
Is this near the vedder canal? Or is it more towards the bridge where the chilliwack river is located?
Can you use power bait eggs for steelhead using a plunking rig and a sliding egg weight.
Why use procured eggs if youre just going to release the fish?
Shaun, the Chilliwack/Vedder River's winter steelhead fishery is not a strictly catch and release fishery. Among these steelhead there are hatchery fish which you are allowed to retain if you wish. what centrepin reels are they using?
Embcii Bee Islander Steelheader. Not sure what the other one was.
this is from early April? on the vedder?
That's correct.
ok thanks. where would u recommend fishing for late April to july
for freshwater
Check out the fishing locations section on our website, there is along list of lakes and rivers with seasons outlined.

I don't recognize that spot. I mean it looks familiar but those logs must be gone.
That spot hasn't been there for a few years now... ;)
