    Your chair turned out very nicely. I actually collect wicker and also have rattan. The only thing that will kill mildew is bleach. After removing initial dirt, good call on your part, you can put half bleach and half water in a mister bottle. Then spray the chair down thoroughly. You can see the look of real wood appear almost immediately. Then rinse thoroughly with plenty of clean water. If the sun is shining, set it out, as you did until thoroughly dry. If not, then a fan is a good alternative. Then you can put wax, poly or whatever sealer you prefer on it. I even do this with my plant baskets. This actually is less work. I've been doing it for years and haven't destroyed anything yet, lol. BTW, it's best to do all of this process outdoors. Fumes from bleach can overwhelm you.
    I'm looking forward to the challenge tomorrow (2-26-22).🙂👍

    This is exactly what I needed to know. Thank you for being so detailed and talking us through it instead of just playing cheesy music like so many other videos do.

    I love everything about that apartment wicker chair flip! It reminds me of my apartment days way back when. You did an excellent job bringing that sweet wicker chair back to life. I learned quite a bit!

    You can absolutely wet cane with water. It is soaked in water when it is being woven! Use nitrile gloves when using a cloth to wipe liquids on your work to be safe.

    Nice, I like it.
    It turned out nice.
    People are using them indoors now more now
    I just bought two Old Hollywood bamboo chairs that are actually for indoors. They are varnished medium darkish and it's worn off in places. I may keep it that way or take it off, because I love natural bamboo.

    I just bought a small cane shelf unit at Goodwill for $5. It is filthy. I thought about washing it in the shower but was terrified I may ruin it. Seeing you wash down the chair in the tub has given me the courage to do this with my shelf unit. Fingers crossed 🤞.

    • @KnowCanDo
      @KnowCanDo 2 роки тому

      Hey Mary!!! I’d actually recommend NOT doing that if you can help it. I only did it because it was an outside chair that I knew was gonna go outside again. I have ruined a couple other pieces by hosing them down too much. Try to first brush off dirt with a hand broom, then use a heavy duty cleaner and then rinse with a damp clean rag. Good luck!!

      @@KnowCanDo thank you, Clara, for replying so quickly. I appreciate your professionalism.
      I was going to wash it tomorrow.
      Phew, you helped me dodge the bullet.
      I guess it's just scrub brushes, tooth brushes and the dust attachment of my vacuum followed by wiping with the vinegar water.
      Thanks again.

    Hey nice video 😊 I have an old cane chair that still has varnish on but it’s worn in areas and chipped, would you recommend sanding before oiling? Thanks!

    • @KnowCanDo
      @KnowCanDo Рік тому

      Not sure! You could just try oiling and see how that works . It’s more like if the varnished areas are greying you might want to sand that off and restain/oil/varnish the whole thing

    • @KnowCanDo

      Hi! I think you may have left on too much stain if it’s sticky. Get some
      Mineral spirits and give it a light wipe with a rag and mineral spirits

    nononono... why does everyone put polyurethane on everything? it´s a fossil fuel based finish, it chips and will look ugly, whereas just using lintseed oil or linseed oil varnish can be easily freshened up, and it does not create these ugly chips... :/

    • @nataliemarshall7158
      @nataliemarshall7158 7 днів тому

      Thank you for posting this comment I didn’t know what polyurethane was, because I never thought to wonder 😢
      I will look into the linseed oil varnish as I’m assuming that it can be used on any kind of wood and that it is more suitable for outdoor furniture? I have a daybed, no clue what type of wood, but it is under cover from overhead weather in a sort of cabana.
