    geez i love the fact that you're ranking movies from YOUR OWN perspective, not the perspective ages or critics or money or yadayada
    and queer look on some... i love it so much. i wish i could do my own ranking but my pc will die on a 1 second of montage :')

      Thank you thst means a lot. I hid a lot of myself for the first few years of this and ever since i stopped caring about passing as a he/him straight guy ive been able to feel the love a lot more and im so greatful for thst.
      Amd hey this project took me 2 years belive me if you want it go get it my guy it's so rewarding you'll have at least one person to signal boost ya.
      As for my perspective its basically just a disney fan i dont really care if other people like them its more what i get out of them and how i can impart my weird take on the world, im bias im not shy about going against the norm and im really glad people are resinating with that

      I agree. I know so many love movies like the lion king, but not everyone is a super huge fan like most people. And that’s completely ok.
      Like for me example, as much as I do like the lion king, my number #1 Disney movie has to be the hunchback of Norte Dame. Like man, how I freaking love that movie. So mature, dark, beautiful, and the soundtrack! No matter how much I hear the main theme, it always gives me chills 😊

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  4 місяці тому +1

      @firemiracle see i find i like hunchback for its lighter moments. Its darkness doesnt intrest me because i find that kinda played out. The maturity comes fron every other aspect of the film in its blatant depiction of racisim the curuption bad people will impose on positions of power and the frank reality that looks do matter to degree and it sucks. I love hunchback but its villian is its least intresting part to me because hes so dark, hell fire espically is just not what im here for.

    • @firemiracle
      @firemiracle 4 місяці тому

      @@ThinkBoxChris fair points. Still, it was interesting to hear your different opinions about these movies. Most ranking videos are kinda almost the same with a small few different opinions, so it was pretty fun to watch and hear about your own opinions about Disney and Pixar movies 😄

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  4 місяці тому +1

      @firemiracle thank you that means a lot. I was really worried about that to be honest because having a unique opnion on the internet can be a death wish but i went in wanting to give my own takes because i feel like most people are afraid to go against the norm for fear of being yelled at. Id rather talk about my takes because thats an intresting discussion to me how do our thoughts differe on a matter. I remeber i did a video on why kingdom hearts 3 is good and i got a lot of people telling me i helped them see the game in a new light and it made me realize that even if its different people will like it. If you haven't seen that one its a bit old and the audio isnt that great but id say watch it if you really wanna see a fire similar to this project.

    i am SO thrilled to hear that you love Great Mouse Detective. it's my personal favorite and yes it really deserves more love and respect not just from Disney enthusiasts, but Disney themselves because as history knows. the Disney Renaissance would never have happened if Basil of Baker Street didn't save the Animation studio from going under. Greta Mouse Detective SHOULD be considered part of that Renaissance.

    I appreciate how you recognise that King Triton was abusive to Ariel. Ariel gets a bad rap for supposedly being selfish and "giving her voice for a man", to the point that they justify Triton's abuse and Ursula's villainy (I've seen takes on how Ursula was "honest" about the deal). Just because Ariel was a princess and not abused at the level of, say, Cinderella, doesn't mean that Triton was right to be overbearing. Ultimately, she's called selfish for disobeying her father, when the big thing she did was save Eric from drowning. Was she supposed to let him drown just so as to be "a good girl"? What kind of moral message is that?
    Thank you for your video!

      Yeah that always rubbed me the wrong way because people do just seem to be dog piling on this movie over nothing. Like yeah its song writing isnt a master peice and some of its dialog is a bit repetitive but most movies have that. People just get mad at the thing isnt aladdin or the lion but bigger and thats really it. Its a movie doing a thousand different things at once and ended up pleasing basically me and thsts really it. A common point of criticism in Toy Story 4 is that Bonnie forgot about Andy's promise to her to take care of her.
    I don't agree with this because Bonnie is like five and would probably forget about that whole conversation the second she gets a bunch of toys in her hands. Kids like getting shit more than a talking-to. Notice how Bonnie lunged to grab Woody when Andy first grabbed him.
    Plus your defense is valid as well - of course a girl would be more into a girl cowboy doll than a boy one, not to mention Jessue just having a cooler design.

    with ratatouille, you completely missed the part where Ego says "not ANYONE can become a great artist, but a great artist can COME FROM anywhere"
    that's the message. it's the whole point of the movie lol.

      @ThinkBoxChris  2 місяці тому

      No i didnt, my point was that remmi is an ass and i dont like him. But the movie does say anyone can cook, i never said theyd be a master at it but linguini never improves and i feel that goes against both messages. If a great artist can come from anywhere, then why can not someone improve in a skilly theyve been passively observing for months?

    I’m a dad in his mid 30s. Strong back into Disney films because I watch them with my kids. I watched all seven hours and my friend, this is brilliant. Here are some notes: 1, you are incredibly funny. 2, I love that you don’t care about what popular opinion is (Lion King low, Home on the Range higher, etc). 3. Your insight on each movie is really impressive. I think that’s key in being a successful UA-camr - you have to actually bring something new to a familiar topic, and you DEFINITELY succeeded. 4, please consider doing more Disney-related films. I took me three nights of a few hours each but this video was AWESOME! By the way, I agree on Treasure Planet! It was lowkey a masterpiece.

    Btw Merida looks slightly better here because she has more of a jawline and cheekbones. In her own film her design is more like she got stun by a jellyfish on the lower jaw. Her face is made less round here likely because when the Disney creators remade her in their style, their rigging method differed from that of Pixar's and accommodations had to be made in the structure of her jaw.
    Related, you can also see that the 2D princess all similarly share a basic setup for their heads, just with jaws and cheek tweaked. Interestingly they all seem to share the same ears, but Cinderella's stand out more because her hair is pulled back.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  7 місяців тому +1

      Huh that does mske sense, i had never noticed her jawline so that adds up.
      As for cinderella i think that they're to big maybe or that they stivk out differently then i think they should. She never had ears before this so adding them feels odd to me. Maybe they could have shrunk them and that would have fixed it

    As someone who enjoyed Cars, I'd say its appeal is the same as a Hallmark Christmas movie, which is, not that deep and good to pass the time if you vibe with that sort of stories, but would like to see a race car instead of a corporate girlboss.
    I also like the "forming connections and relying on others is an important part of living" it has going on, which I think is my biggest take away and the reason why I personally find Lighting's journey so endearing (especially in the way it parallels with Doc's own experience and how they both learn from each other in different ways).

    Damn… I’ve never come across a ranking that I’ve vehemently disagreed with as much as this one. I disagree with pretty much 95% of everything that was being said: Ralph Breaks the Internet, Toy Story 4, and The Incredibles 2 being decent sequels, tolerating the asshole protagonist of Brother Bear while finding Woody’s arc polarizing, saying Buck Cluck is a better written father than Marlin, everything said about Home on the Range, giving Wish a 9/10, disliking the dark undertones of The Hunchback of Notre Dame while liking the gargoyles even though they don’t fit the tone of the movie at all, finding the characters of Brave likeable and putting it over Toy Story 3 ... wow.
    You kinda remind me a lot of Lily Orchard and the way she conducts her media analysis and humor. Not saying that’s a bad thing; in fact, I find it interesting. Listening to contrarians gives you different perspectives and occasionally, we can agree upon the consensus, like Pocahontas being a shitty, boring film. Your ranking was unique, to say the least.

    Now just wait unti how people would feel if you decide to rank movies from DreamWorks, Blue Sky Studios, Sony Pictures Animation, and Illumination because more people are more Defense towards those studios than Disney and Pixar nowadays. Not only is this a seven HOUR video, not only is it a ranking video, but it's a deep dive in a topic I actually like?? That's my jam!! 😌
    Really enjoying your refreshing takes on all of these movies so far! I always go into these Disney ranking videos with one question, as pretty much everyone does: “How do they feel about my favorite movie?”
    The Little Mermaid is that movie, and it's always a gamble what people will say about it. I'm glad you're one of the people who can see this movie for what it is, instead of making up things that didn't exist, like Ariel giving up her voice for a man or some stupid shit like that. Ariel is adorable, quirky (not in the 'trying too hard' way,) and I love her curiosity. She always spoke to me as a queer and disabled/autistic person, insert the “HE'S JUST LIKE ME FR!!!” meme here, lol 😂
    On the topic of 'Under the Sea,' I agree it's definitely a bad message, but Sebastian's arc is often overlooked in favor of Triton's. It feels more natural, since Sebastian REALLY does mean well and wants to do the right thing, and does care for Ariel quite a bit. While he's forced to hang around her at first and keep her out of trouble, he gets to truly understand Ariel's perspective, which Triton is too strict and sheltered to do. Sebastian is way more emotional and sympathetic than he'd like to be, and I find it really heartwarming that he ends the movie doing anything to help Ariel be happy, and even crying at her wedding. If you asked him now, he'd probably say that he doesn't agree with the message of 'Under the Sea' anymore, it's probably his proudest work lol 😭
    Anyways, I'll stop yapping now. Thank you for giving The Little Movie the love it deserves! I love your commentary and your takes on these movies, even if we have some very different opinions on some of them! Great video! You're really underrated, but this definitely convinced me to subscribe! I admire all the effort you put into this video and it needs more love!!

      Thank you for all of this this exactly what i love about comments and interacting with people. Im glad i could do ot justice and while admittedly i dont think about Sébastien too much hes not a bad character i was also limiting myself on word count so every movie i liked wasnt 20 minutes by itself like the tangled frozen 2 and even wish to a certain extent could have been double the length on their own if i wanted if that gives you context.
      But thank you again every person added matters and i want to be able to reach more and more people by doing what i love my way and people like you make it seem like im reaching that every day

    • @MusicKat217
      @MusicKat217 5 місяців тому

      @@ThinkBoxChrisYou're completely fine! It wasn't a criticism of your points, just my own perspective! I loved everything you had to say about the movie, it brought a huge smile to my face! Genuinely, I love this video a lot so far! I didn't think about Sebastian much at all, until recently (I've been watching TLM so much over the past month that it's being drilled into my skull, gotta love autism /j) where I thought he was just a really funny side character, now I'm convinced that he's one of the best Disney side characters ever, not to mention a great second father figure for Ariel! You just said something about the movie I haven't heard before, which I thought was really interesting! And I just wanted an excuse to talk about it!!!
      It's also really nice that you liked the song with the sisters that much, since it's so easily overlooked, but it's a great opening to such minor characters... Almost makes me sad that Ariel missed the concert, I wanna hear the full thing!! 😭 (though, the song “She's in Love” from the musical gives the sisters a fully deserved banger, highly recommend a listen!!!)
      But your content is reaching a lot of people, I love how you aren't afraid to say your opinions, no matter how different they are from the norm, and how much you've given so many movies the benefit of the doubt! Keep doing what you're doing, and I know you're going to get an amazing fanbase out of it!

    Okay this is gonna sound crazy, but i actually highly relate to Pocahontas as a character. As a black indigenous girl, it felt relatable seeing her spiritualism, connection to nature, and acknowledgement in the importance of culture and not being ignorant towards other people. I wasn't entirely aware on the real history of Matoaka when I watched it when I was little, outside of her actually being a child when she met and saved John Smith, so I mostly saw it as a fictional movie and not one based on history. I actually think a lot more people would like the film and a lot of the issues would be fixed if they, 1. Change the names and kept the film entirely fictional and didn't include any real native people or their names because of the colonization and genocide aspect, and 2. Didn't frame it as a Romeo and Juliet thing and instead kept Pocahontas and John Smith as friends for majority of the film with John Smith acknowledging how wrong it is for him and his people to colonize and dehumanize others and to mistreat the planet, or at least made him explorer like Milo from Atlantis and not a straight up soldier/captain, so that when he comes to the realization that the harm his people have brought, it happens because he was only seeking adventure and wasnt giving consideration to others around him, or just seeing non white and indigenous people as something to explore instead of actually respecting the peopleand culture. I also feel like they should've went more hardcore on the villain like Frollo, and I know it might've been too intense for children, but it would work if the point is to show how evil and racist the people who keep colonizing and dehumanizing indigenous people are. Also they should've done the Tarzan thing where they teach each other their languages instead of using magic, it gives them more time to bond and they have to communicate without entirely using words. I still really like colors of the wind and the message behind it as well.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  5 місяців тому +1

      Pocahontas herself is fine, everyone on the natives side is, i honestly feel like the problem was mel gibson and his stipulations for his roles at the time. I do agree that just msking it platonic would be better though.
      Colors of the wind is beautiful, truly stunning but the actual title drop still leaves me confused. But yeah her telling the white man "hey the planet and the things on it aren't yours to concern we gotta co exist" is really needed now and then

    5:17:25 The grandmothers actions are very much abusive in nature. As a Hispanic man I cannot overstate how much I despise the angry Hispanic relative with a sandal on hand BS. That doesn't help the stereotype of Hispanic mothers/ grandmothers being abusive, angry and hitting children is a common negative stereotype around all Types of Hispanics and Latin people. Having the slipper on hand even if it's considered a joke (which it isn't it's just racist) ads to that stereotype and negative view on not only Hispanic and Latin people but mainly Hispanic and Latin woman.
    I also have a huge problem with Mother Gothel being a villian only because she's a heavily antisemitic caricature. There's been a very well thought out highly researched thesis as to why which I would be happy to link trust it's a very informative read and eye opening for sure. I like Tangle fine overall but the sheer amount of antisemitism in Mother Gothel leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.
    the links also have more info on what pits writers fall into when writing people of color, disabled, LGBT and other margenilized groups which I recommend to anyone who wants to be better with their writing.
    (No the links are not scams, links to lewd sights, or virus's)
    Lastly the whole "I don't see color" thing" is a very gross lesson. While it may sound like "I don't mind what race you are cause your a person to" in reality it implies that "Your race is something I don't see and isn't worth acknowledging" You don't have to mention a persons race constantly but to say you don't see it isn't helping nor is it respectful.

      And to clarify i was raised to see race i very much have learned to acknowledge race and bring it up, i actually talk about it in the soul section when i compare joe and tiana, but my point in that story was to explain why i see zootopia as general bigotry as aposed to 1 to 1 rasisim when elemental handled that more directly. Doing this job ive become very away of race and politics and all that, the story told was to show a real example of my at the time naiveté. I hope that clears things up

      As a black girl, I get what you mean. Im not Hispanic but I see so many stereotypical or racist undertones in black characters in animation. Tiana for example, is such a great character and I love her appearance, but the fact that she was considered the first black disney princess (if you don't could Kida who is based on Black and Indigenous cultures), and she was turned into a frog for majority of the film while also having her be the only princess deals with financial struggles and having to be the "hardworking one". And I actually would have no problem with Tiana's struggles even with the racial implications if she didn't have to deal with the frog plot. I thought the parts where she was a human were so interesting, had they went a different direction without turning Naveen and Tiana into frogs, it would've been a masterpiece of a film in my opinion. I love everything else about it, the animation, the music, the characters in general, it's all great. But the animal bit always irked me, even when I was little.

    I really like that Wreck-it Ralf movie, 1 of the things that I like the most about it is that my #1 favorite videogame character who has been that ever since I was a toddler, (Sonic the hedgehog,) got put into it as a cameo character, and that they let his current official VA from the games (Rodger Craig Smith,) reprise his role as that character. I absolutely 100% HATE that movie's sequel, the only thing I do like is that Sonic didn't get ruined in it. Unlike all the other characters. The story plot was completely stupid, especially the the fact that Vanellope was acting like an annoying super selfish bratt in it who broke 1 of the biggest rules that was made in the first movie, (going Turbo by abandoning your own game to stay in a different one,) I believe that the Disney princess part was a clever way to make it be a cash-grab movie, and it shouldn't have won the award of best animated film! I also enjoy both Incredibles movies, 1and 2. The second one definitely could have been done better, I agree on that, but what was in it was enough to get me to enjoy watching it, and the first one is better.

    Hi. I'm really happy that you're one of the few people who wen out of their way to not only enjoy the movie, but also bring valid points about why it's good. Now is it perfect? No, it isn't. Is it the second coming of the Lion King? no, but it doesn't have to be. Is it still a good time? Yes, and I personally give it a 7/10. I know you're currently making a video on the movie, but I have a question that's not necessary for you to ask if you don't want to, but what's your opinion on the whole ''adorkable'' thing that appeared out of nowhere?

    I love your using your own perspective like everyone else is saying. I definitely love your insult on stuff
    For Princess Pocahontas, (there’s another name for her which my friend had taught me but I don’t remember the name) I don’t understand why they didn’t really be truthful with the story?
    The fact they aged the characters up to be more… interesting in a weird way.
    Also! To answer your question on the colors of the wind song. That line I think means this! This is coming straight from Google itself so…
    “open your eyes to all the beauty this land has to offer when nature is appreciated and accepted as a whole rather than land being looked on as profit”
    I think that line you mention alone was such a heartfelt statement/message of that line? I was confused when I watched that and googled it to see the results. I think that’s so pretty especially given that some people take nature for granted, and some looking to make money off of natures beauty. That makes sense given in that context. Thank you for giving me a reason to actually look it up. I don’t know if that’s what they were doing? But it seems like it since Google had that answers I’m aware I’m late but I wanted to come here and give that to you! Maybe you may find it interesting!

    • @CAmintronics101

      I think this is what it was trying to mean!
      The intended meaning is "You can own the whole planet but all you'll have is dirt/something worthless", until you are able to paint with all the colors of the wind
      This makes more sense for that line. I thought it was just a throwaway line but that makes sense given this context

      Also! For the princess and the frog. I’m gonna say it. The men in this movie (at least the owners of said restaurant to Tiana)
      I hated them. So much that I wanted to punch them for how awful they were.
      Also. I’m a little disappointed by the Voodoo being used as a bad thing. I question how they were able to get this to be aired because it’s (from my understanding) a VERY closed practice and I’m 90% sure they didn’t get permission to do this especially in this negative view. Because Voodoo is somehow not bad?
      I didn’t understand it. But I loved the film as Tiana is my favorite princess (mainly because she’s different than the rest of the plain princesses and they never had to work their butts off as Tiana expect for Cinderella but that’s been told a dozen times Tiana is a fresh perspective on what someone can do if they work hard enough and not giving up on themselves)
      I hope this made sense. I was so inspired I made a oc based off this specific film. Maybe not the same story but she was definitely inspired by Tiana. I just don’t understand how they got permission if they got permission to USE voodoo in the film. It was really cool to see something new and that was actually scary
      It scared me so bad as a kid I REFUSED to watch this movie by myself anymore. It was just so terrifying to see them eat The villain alive
      Also! A little side note since Hazbin Hotel came out. I theorized that Dr F became one of the characters in there since his voice actor also is in that show.
      I would absolutely love it if you could kindly do the same thing for LucasFlims Studio? (I think they’re the one that made Anastasia film but that’s all I know them from) and Blue Skys studio especially Nimona! That’s my favorite movie from them.

    3:18:56 that is what annoys me about Cars fans especially with Cars 2, also alot of Pixar fans call John Lasseter (the director for Toy Story 1 and 2, A Bug's Life, and Cars 1 and 2) the """goat""" when I'd prefer Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille) which some people think Pixar went down hill when Disney fired John Lasseter despite the fact that the reason why he got fired is because of him committing sexually Misconduct to women at Disney, which those people either don't know or they don't care because of nostalgia bias for Cars. Which I still think Cars 2 tanted Pixar's reputation and I'd rather stick with Blue Sky's Robots, 2007 Surf's Up, Transformers, and Thomas the Tank Engine than the Cars trilogy, which if I was to feature Lightning Mcqueen in storys with other Pixar characters he would essentially be Homelander from The Boys as in a bigger cocky prick than he already is just with the powers of Homelander.

    I think you missed the mark as to why the Coco scene is so emotionally impactful. On top of the fact that Coco is losing all her memory and slowly dying, if she can’t remember her dad, then that legacy in the dead world is erased. We aren’t just emotional about Coco’s state, it’s the high stakes of the character we built an emotional connection with throughout the movie- Hector. If coco doesn’t share about Hector, he’s forever gone from family history. The family won’t know the truth about what happened. And anybody who’s lost a family member in a slow, painfully drawn out way can also be emotional from that scene. It’s again, not our attachment to the character Coco herself, but what she symbolizes. Grief. Regret.

    A lot of the random things in "The Black Cauldron (TBC)" and "The sword in the stone (TSITS)" come from their source material, but if you read the books you'll see they are deeper or more important to the stories than what the Disney films managed to do.
    "TSITS", is the first part of the tetralogy "The once and future king", written by T.H.White as his own interpretation of the myth of King Arthur. The first part involves a young Arthur (or Wart) being taught by Merlin ethical lessons that will eventually teach him how to become a good king; and just like in the Disney movie, the protagonist is transformed into different animals and learns how humans aren't so different from them, so that he may apply good ethics and form a strong society. However, Disney focused on the comedy too much and scrapped away a lot of what made the original source material so layered, especially if you consider that the story continues in three more books (personally, I think the best of the tetratology are the last two books).
    The film "TBC" is an adaptation of Lloyd Alexander's series "The Chronicles of Prydain", particularly the first two books. I actually love this book series: I would describe them as "The Lord of the Rings" for children, but not in a condescending way, but meaning that is rich in world-building and storytelling but with a more accesible narrative. The problem is that the movie brings many of the elements randomly without explaining where they come from. Princess Eilonwy, for example (who is even more fun in the books and my absolute favourite character), is a daughter of a long line of enchantresses (that's why her bauble is magic)... but people often assume she's a princess simply because Disney is famous for making princess characters. Henwyn, the oracle pig, is an element borrowed from Welsh mythology, as are the three witches; and the pixie-like kingdom has more relevance in the books than in the film.
    In short, Disney missed an opportunity to successfully adapt two High-Fantasy novels, which is a shame because although I like both films, as someone who read the original materials I can see the missed potential. "TSITS" was scrapped almost bare of themes and meaning to make a low-budget comedy, while "TBC" tried to be too ambitious and took more than it could chew.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  5 місяців тому +1

      Honestly that does make sense, espically given the time and budget of those two films and when they were released. Also these are two family films and those two stories have a lot of fighting and war and all that so for what they were doing i get it. I domt hate the sword and the stone i find it delightful for what it is so making it a lessok factory for adter school stuff makes complete sense. As for black Cauldron i think it comes down to production issues and one of the main writers leaving mid production.
      Also i get that the books flesh this out more but thats still the films fault for being boring. A good book is fine but the movies just bad, like i said i like a few things, namily Eilonwy, but its also still not that great based on what they did keep.
      The dom blooth pixies still bother me though, they so dont match the esthetic, and honestly should have been written out of the movie since they dont really do anything

    Watched the video fully (and currently rewatching it cause I love long rankings), and I have some thoughts that appeared in my mind throughout.
    (Also if I have more thoughts I'll just reply on this comment so I don't make a million of them.)
    -The final ranking consisting of embraces that appear more commonly as we go up the list is a cute touch
    -I had no idea that Toy Story 3 borrowed elements of the Holocaust for the daycare and that bugs me now knowing this :/
    -Seeing both Toy Story 2 and Frozen 2 get 10/10's is crazy since they arguably have the most production problems for Pixar and Disney respectively.
    -I see a lot of people hate Gabby Gabby in Toy Story 4 for being manipulative and trying to forcefully remove Woody's voicebox via her ventriloquist dummy sidekicks. I haven't seen TS4 in full so I can't give a proper opinion on this though.
    -I like how the background music for most segments are from Kingdom Hearts or a cover of a song from that movie, cool touch.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for this i really appreciated the detail put into it. And omg im so glad people are wanting to rewatch this that makes my heart happy.
      - I wanted to add some soft touches to the ending as its what i remeber these films for.
      - Yeah its kinda meased up when you learn it, but it's true from what i remeber.
      - It is strange but to be honest production doesn't really factor into my thoughts on a work unless its activly horrific or abusive. TS2 was really bad but not from a malicious place, more so a new company not knowing what they were doing in the 90s, for F2 it was more a lack of a solid vision beyond the theme, but it came together and i think that counts for something.
      - Gabby is fine, like yeah she wants his voice box but the Bensons kinda act on their own, she mostly just wants to talk to him.
      - And thank you i tried really hard to make them make sense, if they werent kh songs i pulled from the game thr movie is based on or a piano cover. I think that adds a bit of charm and chorsion to a lot these so they don't end up feeling random.
      Again thank you for this i really love it

      @@ThinkBoxChris You're welcome! I watched LS Mark's own Disney/Pixar's ranking and even though the background music fitted the general vibe of the movies, there's little to no consistency with the song choices.
      Disney+ has a behind-the-scenes series on Frozen 2 that I would recommend if you haven't watched it yet
      Alrighty some more notes...
      - It's so frustrating that Disney killed its 2D Animation department by putting Winnie the Pooh 2011 against Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 2. Winnie the Pooh made 50 million at the box office while Harry made 1.3 billion. They gave it such a small fighting chance, but ripped it apart almost immediately just by putting it against HP. Basically what happens to so many new animated shows on Nickelodeon especially.

      @@ThinkBoxChrisOkay, so first of all, I think that quite a bit of the dialogue is surprisingly weak at times. Like every time that they saw an island collapse Sadness had to comment on it. Another example was when they commented on how they commented on Riley losing her emotions several times, Sadness said it after she fell into the forgotten, Bing Bong said this after he just met Joy, and Anger and Disgust comment on it during the dinner scene.
      It's weird because the rest of the dialogue seems fine, it's just a few small moments here and there that piss me off.
      Also, I feel like the emotional moments were pretty forced. The ending scene with Riley breaking down in front of her parents and the one where Joy realizes the importance of Sadness, are pretty good, however, that one scene where Goofball island collapses and they play a montage of Riley's childhood moments is eyeroll worthy.
      Okay, this one is gonna be controversial, so brace yourself, but here goes:
      Bing Bong's sacrifice was the most forced emotional scene I've seen in a Pixar movie. There was like nothing all that interesting about him before, in fact he actively led Joy and Sadness away from HQ, but now the movie wants us to actually feel bad for him? Seriously? God I hate that scene.
      Also this is a minor thing but I don't get Riley's plan. So she wants to run away to Minnesota and... what then? Like I get she's a child but even an eleven year old would've thought this through more than that.
      I like this movie, I'd give it a 7/10 for the humor, the world-building, and the characters but I cannot get past this flaws

      @@ThinkBoxChrisOkay, so one minor nitpick I have for your Monsters University section (not a huge criticism, don't take it personally) but with how we're shown the world, you really MIGHT need a degree to go work for Monsters Inc. Working with humans that monsters know to be toxic would require some specialisation. That's why even Mike and Sully had to work up to it instead of just getting a scaring job.
      I like to think of it like working in Programming or IT, you can get a degree, it certainly makes things easier, but people do get a job in that field without one. There's a lot of theoretical stuff to both fields that one might not need IRL but are good to know if you wanna be good at it.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  7 місяців тому

      @chiangkai-shrek1575 those make sense, but for me the dialog is explaining things to characters that either dont know or are repeating things for the kids to get because in all honesty these are pretty nebulous concepts for 10 year olds to graps. So a little filler dialog to help flesh it out can help.
      As for goofball i kinda get why the movie does that montage, it comes part with the way the movie treats how the emotions relate to Riley. The movie has them kinda act as her when in control but parental when shes not really feeling that particular emotion, so joy seeing not only the most joy island that ever cracked a bad joke fall its like seeing herself fail at her one job ALONG with sering her kid loose a part of what made her special. Ive help raise a lot of kids so that scene hits because ive seen that spark of silliness go out over time and its not fun.
      As for big bong he has 2 plot functions give joy a bag and give joy a way out of purgatory, thats kinda it. But he also is the idea of how joy first learns that being sad is ok, that scene with sadness comforting him that i pointed out is really important and sets up the emotional through line. Dont get me wrong i hste big bongs va and i don't much care for him but hes not enough to dotract from my love of this movie. And ill admit the first few times i cried at his death but now im like, thank you for your service solider.
      As for Reilly running away... i mean its kinda the point she isn't thinking, shes numb and depressed and feels alone, so i buy she didnt think ahead because the movie shows us her not thinking beyond "life was good back home, lets make it happen". Depression and loneliness warp your perception on the world and espically with how i talked about the mom making her feel like she has to be happy her not being happy makes her feel like shes failing so she cant go to her parents. It all toes together in a way i find very vindicating.

      @chiangkai-shrek1575 thats perfectly fair, im getting my degree now so im not sure how the job market works in that regard, but from how the first movie framed it i assumed theyd need company traning and certification to do the scare floor rather than just a collage education.
      From what ive heard some companies do support and psy for learning that goes back into the company so its possible, like i said it could just be a certificate or idk i might be wrong.

    Did you see the stage musical of Hunchback yet? I will definitely not spoil anything but I can say it is much, much, darker than the movie.
    There's two different versions. I'll list the changes they make in each without any spoilers.
    German version
    The comedy is scaled down a lot and they change the names of the Gargoyles, even though they do keep A Guy Like You, they make it fully clear that they are in Quasimodo's head.
    They cut out the goat and the horse.
    The opening is mostly the same, the only differences are that Quasimodo's mother actually has a line of dialogue asides from just crying for sanctuary and Clopin is narrating to the audience and not to a group of kids and he's an old and crippled beggar this time and not the same age as he was in the film, in fact he does it throughout a lot of the show.
    They add the fact that Frollo used to be a priest, like he was in the original novel, as explained in the first half of Out There, which is expanded on and adds the Gargoyles and adds on why Frollo became a judge.
    The song Made of Stone (probably my favorite song in the show), is sung in different contexts in both versions. This version focuses on Quasimodo losing all hope in romance because Esmeralda loves Phoebus and not him and him ignoring the gargoyles comments by trying to encourage him, making it a lot more heartbreaking for me than in the American version.
    While I won't spoil the ending, I will say that it is the same as the book, which isn't a very happy ending.
    American version
    They have a Greek Chorus narrating instead of Clopin and it's the only thing I don't like about this version and why I'd prefer the original German version, which sadly isn't really done anymore and is now overtaken by this version instead, which while I still love this version, I would prefer the German version, considering the fact that not only did it have a bigger budget, making it feel more cinematic than it does here, but also the Greek Chorus narration is just kinda stupid.
    The opening is hugely different. They expand Frollo's backstory by him being Quasimodo's biological uncle, because his brother fell in love with a gypsy girl, his brother was banished from Notre Dame after Frollo told the main priest, he ascended into priesthood (yes, he is a priest in this just like in the novel) and eventually finds his brother on his deathbed. The gypsy girl already died and Frollo adopts his brother's child after his brother dies, that being Quasimodo, his biological nephew.
    Quasimodo has a more deformed sound of voice and they add the fact that he was partially deaf, just like in the novel.
    They cut A Guy Like You, probably for the best in my opinion and they scale down the Gargoyles very heavily here.
    They expand Phoebus' character as well and give him more depth than the film.
    Frollo doesn't outright say he hates gypsies, even though he doesn't treat them well either. You do sympathize with why he hates gypsies because it led to his brother's downfall and eventual death.
    Esmeralda doesn't escape Notre Dame because she's not a prisoner. She follows Quasimodo inside because of her kindness only to come across Frollo, then after a few songs and meeting Quasimodo again, Frollo eventually tries to seduce her and her trust in him is eventually broken, therefore breaking our trust of him.
    This version of Made of Stone has the gargoyles convince him to help Esmeralda and him ignoring them, just like in the movie. I think it's more effective in the German version than it is here.
    They keep the ending the same as the German version, being similar to the book, which is very depressing.
    They're both excellent in their own right and I'd watch them and listen to the soundtracks to them, a lot more than the movie which while I still love, does suffer from tonal issues from the Gargoyles and some slapstick that is pretty lame. Check them both out if you've got the time.

      Im not a huge dark tone fan, like thats why i like the movie so much its tone is inspirational and light hearted except when frolloes there. I think the gargoyles are fine all be it misused some times, but still ok.

    This kept me alive thru a 9 hr shift. U dont know how much it helps get thru a grave shift. Dont agree at all with 95% of what u said (especially comparing ace clucks years of emotional abuse, neglect, and str8 up siding against his own son and actively stunting him and hiding him away because he sees him as an embarrassment when hes a literal child who just lost his mom; to marlin who was well intentioned but allowed his own trauma to hurt, stunt, and drive away nemo), but a well made video. Consider me subbed

      However i think your misremebering chicken little on the whole vs finding nemo. Marlin actually did hide nemo away and not let him do anything, aa apoaed to buck and little he only discourages the baseball thing to make it so that little isnt more of a target.
      Yeah he wasnt there for the sky falling thing but thats kinda the point. Although in his defense he had no fucking clue what little was on about and gave a reasonable explanation to him and the town, he never hid him or anything he simple didnt want him to get hurt, you see what i mean when he and marlin are virtually the same? Its all about phrasing and how you want to view it. If you like marlin or see his sympathy then you veiw it kinder if you see bucks you veiw him kinder, i personally hate parents like marlin even though i get it, but i also have parents like buck that were a little over protective and didnt belive me until they saw how much it hurt, and the apology i got was very much like bucks its why i highlighted it. I just think theres more gray room to buck then people give him credit for and over synpathize aith marlin because they like finding nemo so much or maybe its because we knew corel for the flash back im not too sure

      @AngelRivera-de1lq 5 місяців тому

      @ThinkBoxChris overly long analysis warning lol. I agree they're definitely both bad fathers. I think its easy to compare them cuz they both play basically the same role in their movies. Theyre both dads who actively stunt their kids and keep them from growing or suceeding. But the main difference 4 me is their motivation and goals. Because of this I don't think they're at the same level at all.
      Marlins motivation is clear from the start of the movie. At one moment he's at his happiest with the person he loves most envisioning a perfect life, and in a millisecond a fish shows up, destroys everything, and takes everything he loved and cared about. On top of that, he sees his wife take decisions upon herself and actually make the wrong choice. She gets eaten and her kids get eaten anyways. From this marlin thinks he knows two things. One, the ocean is an extremely dangerous place that can take everything in a split second. And two, not to trust people to make the "right" decision (whether it would've changed anything who knows). Because of this, he hides Nemo from the real world and is overly paranoid and shelters him. Because of this Nemo isn't able to have friends or do anything exciting and is constantly made to feel like his disability is who he is. Marlin is definitely a terrible dad, but his hearts in the right place at least. His main goal is keeping Nemo safe, despite going overboard and actually ruining his son's life. Plus, he's actually proven right! The second he isn't paying attention to where Nemo is and Nemo goes into the ocean alone he get scooped up, shipped halfway across the ocean, and is thrown into a tank to be shaken to death in a small plastic bag by the fish equivalent of Ted Bundy. Of course none of this would've happened if he didn't actively drive Nemo away, but he isn't wrong that the ocean in this movie is extremely dangerous. That's why the lesson he learns isn't that there isn't danger out there, it's that he needs to trust the people he loves to make decisions for themselves and that Nemo is able to take care of himself when actually educated on what the world is like. Not a great dad, but not the worst. I've met a ton of parents like him who shelter their kids to the point of stunting them and theyre very annoying, but lots of times they have alot of trauma and let their protective nature and love for their kid get the better of making the right choice.
      And then there's buck cluck... I'm just gonna assume he has no motivation other then avoiding embarrassment cuz that's all he ever wants to do and is given no reason for constantly siding against his son. His only excuse is his wife's dead and "emotions were her job, so I can't be blamed for not knowing that I should let my son talk and not ignore his emotions." Nobody was even second guessing what chicken little was saying until his dad showed up and immediately assumed he was a rambling idiot. He picks up an acorn off the ground without even giving his son time to explain himself, talks over him, ignores the fact he could be concussed, and tells the ppl it was just a acorn and plays it off that little is just delusional and it's a misunderstanding. He has no real goals either, if it was up to him little would just "lay low" (as he constantly reminds him) for the rest of his life. He just wants things to go back to normal. It's not like Littles life is gonna get any worse or he's gonna get bigger exposure. The whole town, from the mayor to the students to the teachers, actively bully, degrade, and mock him constantly. Someone in Hollywood literally thought it'd be lucrative enough to make a whole movie just to mock and embarrass him. And what does his dad do? Just tells him to lay low at school while he sits at home and acts like he's in the same boat as his son who's the one being actively bullied. At this point it seems like he's well intentioned and just wants to keep his son from further embarrassment, but then there's the talk with the principle. Obviously this isn't Littles first time causing trouble at school as the principle notes. He even says "ever since the acorn thing." Buck knows whats happening, everyone in town knows. But what does he do? Nothing really. He doesn't ask his son how he's feeling, he doesn't talk to him about anything at all beyond saying lay low. He doesn't even defend his son from the principle basically calling him a disappointment from the great buck ace cluck. As soon as little tries explaining what happened at school he shuts him down and tells him he doesn't need to explain. Because in bucks eyes he already knows that everything little touches turns to trash. This is proven when he tells him not to try baseball and that they've talked about not doing anything too big. His son just had a terrible day and he won't even let him dream about doing baseball. He just shuts him down as usual. Little is actively trying to have a relationship with his dad, saying buck can give him pointers and all he wants is to see how proud buck will be when he hits a home run. And what's buck's response? Don't get your hopes up. Basically, no matter what you do I automatically expect it to be a disappointment and failure and you should too cuz youll feel better once u accept nothing will ever change. He almost crashes when he's told little wants to go into baseball cuz of how horrible it seems in his mind. Then they get home and he goes to his room and hides from little as usual cuz he doesn't like talking. It shows little sitting on the roof sad watching a father and son play Frisby and wishing he could even have a dad who trusts him not to mess up. Then little actually succeeds and wins the game. And all of a sudden buck is proud of him and is more then happy to be associated with his son. For the first time in the whole movie, we actively see him come to little and talk to him. Finally his son's not just an embarassment and he's able to be proud of him! It's his dream scenario, he finally lives up to him. But then little starts acting out again and is threatening to take everything away from poor buck ace cluck. Notice how he doesn't apologize to his son until it's proven he was right all along. Suddenly, now that he knows his son isn't a worthless failure like he thought, he can apologize to him and theres the big moment when he says "I do trust you son." But does this even mean anything? Of course he trusts him, there r literally aliens threatening everyone's life and there's no real choice. If he woulda said this before it was revealed that little was right, then it would've meant something. But no, he can't bring himself to do it until his dream scenario comes once again and his son's a courageous hero. What would happen if little was actually just wrong again? The same as usual - lay low, don't talk to me or try to explain anything, and don't have dreams or hopes. He shows no signs that he would've changed otherwise. I think him being a bad dad is more a problem from the writers then anything, but he's still pretty worthless as a parent. Like, who takes a whole towns side over your own under developed child who just lost his mom? There r so many times when little just stands right in front of his dad and wants to say something but is too afraid to, and buck just ignores it. In my eyes at least marlin shows love and care for Nemo and shows him more then enough attention. Buck just leaves little to die most of the movie

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  5 місяців тому

      @AngelRivera-de1lq again i think this comes down to a tone thing. Marlin at least to me comes pff very angry at everything he seems to just want everything to be perfect and not have anything happen ever. Now granted i understand WHY hes like this but he literally tells nemo "no you cant do anything by yourself, let me" that's way more harmful then what buck does the difference is whoes story it is. For marlin he has to learn to let nemo mess up, but never really gets that till the end, hes just annoyed everyone is exsisting around him even though everyone is in some way trying to help him. Yeah some arent the nicest about it, but in this senario id rather try then not.
      As for buck im gonna be real i have no idea where your getting the "dont try you'll be bad at it" bucks ultimate goal is to save little from any more scrutiny or harm from the town. Hes shocked at the baseball thing because ofc he is littles like 2 ft tall at most. I would be suprised too, but he never says hell be vad at it, more that its either dangerous or itll put him in the spotlight. As for the acron... can you blame him? Its aliens, yeah this is a world with talking animals, but that's their norm and its stated littles even under the tree; isnt that a more logical conclusion to come to?
      Buck is also veing harassed and emaressed by the town for the incident and in a small town once one member becomes the black sheep the rest of the heard is marked with him, we even see this the day after the second scare. Buck is called by people constantly and he even bites back at a few of them. Theres a lot of care put into buck and its mostly his acting and facial expressions that show this.
      He was the towns former jock, got married had a kid and his wife who was the more emotionally intelligent one of the two died before little was old enough to communicate healthy with his dad or even teach buck how to talk to little. Some people just arent good at talking like that and are better at being the support in the parenting role rather than the main care giver. He is trying though, but he's in an impossible situation given the story and the place they live, he has no way to prove little right so he grins and bears the towns ire and scorn while trying to keeo little out of peoples attention zone so eventually the gossip will stop.
      Further more buck says he trusts little before he shows buck kirby, the trust wasnt about aliens it was about weither or not little could fix the situation. That scene in general is one of my favorites because it finally click, just like with Marlin, that his kid can take care of himself despite his size and his reputation.
      Speaking as someone who had a very similar thing happen social status wise in elementary school i completely get the lay low thing, it sucks but eventually time passes and people forget or move on, and it made life easier once it did because the one thing i messed up on was no longer such an issue, and thats kinda whats going on here.
      Idk if this will make sense, but its just how i feel about these fathers, both have good intentions but where most see a loving father i see one who degrades his son for fear of his son no longer needing him and another where most see a monster i see someone trying their best in a situation that no one would ever be able to navigate through flawlessly who alienates his son by poor choice of words and lackluster communication skills.

      @ThinkBoxChris I guess I mainly don't rlly get why u sympathize with buck so much more then marlin. Nemo is all he has left from the person he loved most. He just let's his love take control of his decisions and harm his son's growth. I agree, this isnt fair to nemo at all and he has no choice in any of this. Marlin is definitely a terrible father, but he still crosses the entire sea to find him and relies on the help of random ppl. The second Nemo is taken away he admits he messed up and takes accountability. He faces sharks, goes through miles of jellyfish, runs from an angler, shoots outta a whale, and goes into a literal birds mouth to save his son. He's annoying, but he at least has a reason for it and actually risks everything and puts aside everything he wrongly believes to save his son. He's just a very overly emotional person in general who needs to learn to control his emotions and impulses that kick in due to ptsd. In his mind, his wife and kids all died because of HIM. He blames HIMSELF for everything. Buck instead blames little for everything and has nothing from his past that should make him act this way, thats the main difference. Buck doesn't rlly do anything positive. What lengths does he go through to make littles life easier? If he needed someone to constantly remind him to lay low a piece of paper and a pen could do the job better then him. All u can say is he tries ig. Yeah, he's trying to keep his son from further embarrassment, but is that a good thing? Like the damage has already been done, by HIM. Yeah, he was confused from little rambling abt the sky falling, but would u c your son confused and scared and immediately side against him without even taking a second to c what's happening. Like, someone doesnt go into extreme panic and summom an entire town by frantically ringing a bell cuz a little acorn hit their head usually. When u think abt it, it makes even less sense assuming an acorn was the whole reason. Little even tries to say what rlly happened but buck cant take any further embarrassment. He cant bear to be seen with this as his son after being the glorious buck ace cluck. I see adults doing that all the time. A kids trying to explain why they're upset and immediately get talked over and told what's "actually happening." And for years after this big event which has changed the very course of their lives he hasn't even talked with his son about it or even tried to understand why he did it in the first place? Chicken little was 100% right in the movie, so buck was the real one who made a big mistake and ruined their life, not chicken little. But instead little gets all the blame and shame for years. Whats his reasoning or motivation for not even trying for a milisecond to understand his son? He has no relationship with him, little is literally scared to talk to him or anyone else cuz when he tried talking about something important his own dad, the one you look to for things to be fixed or to make you feel safe, calls him a delusional lier and makes him into a laughing stock. Little doesn't even seem to care as much as his dad about what ppl think. At the very start of the movie he's trying to do something big to make up for his (fathers) "failure". Bucks the only one who doesn't want him to try to make his situation better. That's why i say he acts like everything little does will be a failure. Why would he constantly shoot down little whenever he talks about doing something big if he didn't assume it was gonna fail? If he actually believed his son wasn't doomed to always be a failure he would have no problem letting him do something big if it's completely unrelated to the big mistake. If he really thought it was just one mess up he shouldn't have any problem letting little try and do something great. But no, he just assumes it too will fail and cause more embarrassment. Is he trying to keep little safe from more harm? Yeah. But it doesn't matter what he's "trying", cuz in reality all he's doing is actively ruining his son's life. The only sympathy for him is "well he's trying to keep things together after his wife." So? Doesn't make him a good dad or person. When Nani deals with Lilo she doesn't assume nothing biggers ever going on or makes her not try anything for fear she'll be bullied. She's not the best at parenting, but at least she's putting in effort and actually DOING SOMETHING. What's one thing buck does to make littles life better? He definitely doesn't swim across the ocean to fix his situation. He doesn't even talk with him or play catch with him to atleast distract him. All he does is sit in his room and sigh. It doesn't even seem like Littles main goal is getting the towns support, but rather his dad's pride and love. He's constantly giving extremely obvious comments that should point buck to this conclusion. Little literally says he just wants to c how proud his dad will be when he hits the baseball across the stadium. And how he can practice with him and show him pointers. Yeah, he's small, but suddenly it's ok to tell ppl that they r defined by their disability and tell ur son he cant possibly do it? A good parent would c how hard little was pushing for it and really wanted it despite his size. It's not like chicken little doesn't know he's obviously 10 times smaller then everyone. It's in his name lol. Buck says they've talked abt it before, so why is he so surprised? Not cuz he got thrown off cuz of how small little is, but because he just had to talk with the principle abt littles constant "failures" at school and now little wants to do something "too big" again. What kinda response is "dont get ur hopes too high" after your son talks about how you two can spend time together and he tells u how happy he'll be when his dad sees him hit a home run? And the reason I say the "I trust u" at the end doesn't work is cuz it's based on the fact that the world's ending and chicken little is proven right. It doesn't matter buck doesn't see the orange alien when he's apologizing. The world's coming to an end just like little said. And it's not until little yells at him and tells him how he's been feeling for the last few years that he apologizes. Basically, sorry I ruined your entire life instead of taking 3 seconds to hear what your ever saying at any given moment, but it's all good cuz I said I feel bad and I love you and you were also right so that helps. Of course he trusts him, he just spent the last few years not believing him and was proven utterly wrong. If anything, little should start telling buck to lay low now since he ruined their lives and almost caused the world to end cuz he couldnt take 3 seconds to listen. Hes the real constant failure, he deserves to be shot down not chicken little. What should've happened for actual growth was little finally tells him how he feels without being proven right, and buck sees he was wrong and trying to hard to cover over things and didnt realize how it was effecting his son. Then aliens show up, buck hesitates at first, but finally trusts him now and concedes. Then it would work cuz buck actually believes his son without having to need proof he was right all along. Same thing happens when little saves the game. Suddenly bucks motivated to interact with him positively once he lives up to his image. He says little shouldn't feel like his love was something that had to be earned, but that's literally what he unintentionally does the whole movie. Its like a flip just switches at the end of the movie and suddenly hes supportive. At least marlin spent a whole movie gradually learning to trust people and deal with tense situations. Bucks just a bad dad then suddenly isnt with no signs of growth before this. Thats why im convinced if little was actually wrong he wouldve never learned anything and just kept shooting him down. And yeah, he yells back at ppl insulting him and his son, but that was his literal mom lol. The other ppl he just said he was sorry to. Plus i find it hard to feel bad for him when he already had his glory and wasnt stunted from doing what he dreamed. He already had his perfect life, but now hes too busy moping around in how he feels to realize how terrible his sons life is as a direct result of him. I don't think he's actively malicious like some ppl do, he's obviously not very aware and thinks he's doing the best he can. But he's still a terrible father. That's why i say it's mostly bad writing, cuz I don't think the writers realized they kinda made him the antagonist of the movie and the one who actually ruined chicken littles life and caused the entire plot of the movie. If things were paced better he would come off alot more sympathetic. It honestly feel like he was rushed in so there could be a sense of character development. But just saying sorry too late doesn't fix anything, especially in the context of the movie

      @AngelRivera-de1lq honestly it boils down to this, ive had people treat me like marlin does nemo, ive had people tell me i was nothing or i couldnt do anything and confecend to me because i was different and i hate those kind of people. I hate how it makes me feel and it puts me back to when i was nemos age and felt shame for having the gaul to be different. I know thats not what marlin does exsactly but that line tells me all i need to know about him.
      Buck i sympathize with because hes like my dad, sometimes not the best at being a parent but still there and my dad did that stuff he told me some dreams are to hard to achieve for some people he told me its ok to lay low and keep quite if you dont want the attention. Again different context, but it still made me feel kinda bad till i asked him about it and once i did he explained why and i see a lot of it in buck. Hes not the best but hes always trying to me.
      Nani is an intresting point in this too as she is good at being a parent espically with whats been going on, the difference is lilo is for the most part fine being weird she only gets upset when her "friends" call her out for it but it doesnt stop her because of nani and stitch.
      Buck wants to keep little safe from harm but has no idea what hes doing, i mean think about that scene with the principle, its at night (durring summer mind) because he had to come after work. Hes working a lot in the film and so hes not able to be everything to everyone. Marlin is a fish so doesnt have that problem so hes just up nemos papella all the time. Also good on him for going to get his son, i even say thats the bare minimum in the video, i still dont like him.
      We could keep going at this all day and night i dont really have a way to persuade you nor you me. I dont care about dead wife backstorys i dont care about a cross atlantic fish voyage and i just dont care about how bad buck is when i see what hes trying to be. It also comes down to their personalities, marlins an ass and Buck is more anxious or depressed the whole time, and i find that infinity more sympathetic then how marlin is even before the boat napping

    Notes on Bambi: "man" is effectively an antagonist in this film, because their potrayal is seen from the point of view of the prey. They represent a force that they do not comprehend, but it's ultimately destructive. Also, whether the hunters in the film were "good and just providing for their family" is irrelevant, because we see that they are neglectful enough to have very negative effects on the ecosystem. Shooting Bambi's mum is a bad sign because, to my understanding, it's illegal to kill females because that can be detrimental to the population of deers, especially if they have offspring, which the hunters in the film unavoidable must have seen. Then, the use of wild dogs and their neglectful use of fire highlights the irresponsibility of hunting when it's not properly managed or supervised. It is implied that they are poaching rather than hunting for survival. The hunters might have been role models in their community or whatever, but that doesn't matter in the context of this story: they still caused great damage to the local ecosystem due to their irresponsibility, and thus they should rightly be seen as the villains of the movie.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  5 місяців тому +1

      No i get all that, im not saying they're not bad in this context. What im saying is that there might have been a way to add nuance to this rather than just going "man is the worst". I mean yeah we as a species suck but it would have been nice to see something more than that. The other male deer could habe been enough or even a random lightning strike to the forest that bambi has to guide people out of. I get killing his mom makes them a malevolent force but they really dont drive the plot except in those two specific instances.
      Like i said the other male deer being an obstacle would have been a good tarzan esc moment or over coming a forve of nature or dealing with his neglectful father just something other than hunters could have elevated this in my mind

  • @bobtheball5384
    @bobtheball5384 6 місяців тому

    I'm only 3 hours into this, and I like the ranking so far despite personally feeling differently on a few of the movies- But one thing I'd like to mention about your opinion in regards to the message of Ratatouille, I think it's a movie you kinda have to take figuratively instead of literally. Like it's the kind of film that there needs to be some suspension of disbelief because nothing is realistic is occurring in it and that realism was never the intention.
    Within the film during Ego's speech at the very end he says the thesis of the movie. It was never, "Everyone can do anything" because Ego says he realizes that wasn't what Gusteau's meant by, "Everyone can cook" He says he understands that what Gusteau meant was: "Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere." The movie was intentional with making Linguini an awful cook, it was never about turning him into a better chef, it was about him pretending to be something that he's not and that he had to face who he is. His father Gusteau was a great chef, yet Linguini cannot cook despite that background, despite the expectations of his heritage.
    When it comes to Remi being a rat, it matters little to what the movie is trying to accomplish when telling the audience that no matter the background, someone who wants to create, you will and or can find them from anywhere. It was never really about "oh rats can cook just like everybody else, so if you think you can't just know that a rat can." Remi being a rat is a tool used to make the storytelling interesting and accessible for children and or just a creative way to tell the story. When I watched the film as a child, "Anyone can cook" was the statement that stood out, but when closely examining closer as an adult it's wayy much more than that. I don't fault anybody for getting that message out of this film, but I honestly can't say that was the intention when we see Ego write the letter.
    That's kinda why I'm a bit confused as to why you had a problem with Remi since, in his perspective he openly RESENTS the fact that he is a rat in the first place and he rather much be treated as an equal, not a rat since in the movie he attempts to be more human-like rather than rat-like. Remi walks like a human, tells his father that he doesn't want to take or steal, and that he rather create like *they* do. He's pretty parallel to Linguini in terms of pretending to be something they are not due to their backgrounds, and it pretty relatable to people from poorer backgrounds (something I personally relate to) putting on a facade in order to fit in and to feel as though you belong from the expectations being held. That and the family aspect on Remi's side, his father being disapproving of the kind of life Remi wishes to have because it might hurt him because of what he and his family is. I found it somewhat relatable personally as a queer person and as someone who's family tries to discourage me from my "lifestyle" because some people are cruel enough to hurt me for it.
    Will say though, I agree with Remi being a bit of a jerk to Colette though and a 7/10 is a fair score regardless of any gripes. Really good job on this video, it must've took ages so good work!

      First off thank you so much for this i love comments like this. As for how long this took in total the project was 2 years in the making and im really hoping more people can find and like it like you have.
      However I can't really reply to all of this, but my issue with remi is not THAT he's a rat my point is that in tbe publics eye he would be nothing more and he needs to accept that hes not going to be able to be in the limelight. Thats kinda part of the deal he amd linguini made, hes the chef linguini is the face of the operation. I dont like that hes angry at it because what was linguini gonna do tell everyone the truth?
      As for the moral my only real takeaway from your phrssing is i think i missed something, my point about ego still stands but my idea about how people work in regards to talent is expanded on in monsters University.

      Also fair enough, I see what you were saying in regards to Remi where he relied upon his natural talent rather than honing the skill and or learning through someone with years of experience. Though I do think that was somewhat the point of Remi's arc, learning that he has to embrace what he is in order to achieve his dream and to wear that on his sleeve. @@ThinkBoxChris My point is it shouldn't be compared to any movie, it's a standalone achievement in art, by far the most important and successful animated film in history. And anybody who says they don't respect a movie that took 750 artists (during the great depression) years to make, with no previous reference, is an idiot. I know you're trying to be funny and build an audience, but if you do some research and be a bit more open-minded you might broaden that audience.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  2 місяці тому

      @chalkandcheese1868 I'm not being closed minded, the whole point of this project was to shake my biasis snow white didnt though i went in wanting to like it. If anything you are being closed minded by telling me my thoughts on a product are wrong because of the work that went into it. I dont need to tell people its a land mark or a spectical in animation most people know that, i know that. But as a story its pacing is mediocre and its not intresting by the standards i have for a film. Placing it in a capsule in a ranking video defeats the purpose its meant to be an honest review I didn't research because that was the point if I do bring up stuff from production it's because I have pre knowledge of it before the project started and a lot of people like this approach. Ive been told a lot by my own comments.
      Calling me an idiot doesn’t really help the case either because your making an argument for why I'm wrong by telling me to do something I never set out to do. If I wanted sure I could do a detailed serious review of every film and explain how amazing it is the product got done but thats not what this is it's meant to be "funny summery for people who didnt see the movie; then honest opnion" adding in production stuff like that wasnt my goal.
      By that same logoc frozen and tangled should be in the same boat because of the technology and time it took to make them during the 2008 housing crisis while also learning 3d animation, but people dont do they they talk about the film and the story maybe how much it coast to animate rapunzels hair but that's kinda it.
      Look if you look at snow white and see a team of animators and people trying their hardest to get stuff done durring a tough time thats great, I see an alright movie that bored me when I saw it as an adult that admittedly wasn't aged well but isnt as bad as others from that time. Why am I the one in the wrong for looking at the end product and not the production? LS mark the guy I got this idea from talks more about the actual animation and so do a lot of people who cover these things i took a different approach, why is that so bad?
      I have been asked to do longer reviews on every disney movie like full on 10-20 minute long things and i did intend to do research for those but that's because that's part of the bit, here it wasn't. Its not so much being closed minded as it is not being what i wanted to do.

I'm trying to educate you a little bit, this is a movie that literally built the Disney empire, inspiring countless theme parks, literature and toys that have entertained millions of people for almost 100 years, and for which every other movie on your list wouldn't exist. It's one of the handful of movies that actually built Hollywood itself. This is definitely the most MIXED list I have ever seen. No shit this will get controversy. Not saying I don't like it, but definitely mixed.

      And Honestly the reception so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Some people just skip to the end to see the ranking and thus get mad at the lack of contect the other 6 hours and 54 minutes provide, but those who watch the individual reviews find it refrahing im so honest about my opnion on things and enjoy the video for that fact. I went in knowing my tastes are not inline with most people, but im glad i did it this way.

      Ok well lets talk about it, what about them is so good to you.

    • @CSS-Gerbrad7
      @CSS-Gerbrad7 2 місяці тому

      No I just said I didn’t expect them not to be at that spot, also I get that Remy will get killed but his work ain’t getting recognised and Linguini was having an ego due to his fame, making him confident that he can cook without Remy and kicks him out. Which was a bad idea as he isn’t able to cook in the first place, he then makes everything worse by telling the staff that Remy was the one who was cooking. Remy didn’t wanna be found out, he just hated how Linguini was being egoistical about it. Also he’s basically a reincarnation of Gusteau and knows more than the head chef (Collete) so Remy just finds her as a roadblock in a way but I get that he should’ve listened and it’s disrespectful that he does that. Wall-E I can see where your coming from more but I think Wall-E and EVE’s relationship was cute, I can see some of your points and you having ADHD isn’t your fault but the first half being quiet always made me unsettled because it shows you the environment earth has turned into. That’s all I have to say, good video.

    • @ThinkBoxChris
      @ThinkBoxChris  2 місяці тому

      @CSS-Gerbrad7 for me it comes off like hes mad hes not getting recognized and thats it. Linguini is jist playing up the fane because what else is he supposed to do? Act like hes not hot stuff when hes the literal next Gusto? I get why theyre like this but its still irritating to me.
      As for wall-e its not that their relationship is bad its just if you made it about people itd read very different and thats my issue. People kinda ignore the issie because they're cute robots but if this were say an overweight man and conceptually attractive woman it would read very different to most, or god for bid a same sex couple on either end of the divide would be seen as preditory or like active kidnapping and i try to keep that in mind that stuff has some kind of transferability when i write or read something.
      The opening is fine i just find it could have been trimmed down 5 minutes and been better. But thank you i like having these bsck and forths with people to either see something new or elaborate on what i mean

      Also another thing, I kinda wanna defend Cars as it gets over hated. I think the nonstop merchandising and dumb premise with "what if cars came to life" really brings it down a notch compared to the previous films. I didn’t like a Bug’s Life though, even if it was fine I guess. But I find the story with this hotshot racer getting trapped in a deserted town and needs to learn how to be humble and grateful is a fine concept. This movie is very similar to Doc Hollywood though and that’s apparently another criticism? Cars being a good movie is an unpopular opinion but Cars being solid is the best it can get which makes me feel so wrong. Just because a movie was made probably for the intent of merchandising doesn’t automatically make it bad, it still had a story and there’s some nice moments to like the climax to the final race and the cow tipping scene with Mater. It makes you feel as if we’re getting somewhere in this movie and you see a natural progression in McQueen’s character ark. They make him such a big asshole so you actively wanna see him fail but they then start to ease up on it when you can see his character changing. He’s eventually given the option to leave but declines the request to stay at Radiator Springs. The ending is fine with Radiator Springs being put back on the map due to Lightning’s recommendations of going there. Its a solid movie and I’d give it a 6/10 Edit: Also the movie ending with Find Yourself is the perfect end credits song, describes Lightning McQueen’s ark throughout the movie, that’s all

      @CSS-Gerbrad7 and i can certainly respect that perspective. I dont care that the world is cars, my issue stems from the humbling being given to someone who has a lot of peoples lives riding on what haopens next week. If hed lost the first race and was bitter then it makes sense but as it stand the movie goes "hey you have a lot of and success you probably worked hard as fuck to get but your arragent so eat shit" and i find that to be rather dismissive on how he got there because its not his fault is the people who trained him to be this way

    It's so weird. Like every time it's mentioned, something is so heterosexual.
    Idk, maybe it's because I'm Pansexual but I don't understand using sexuality as an upside or downside to a movie, but it comes off as an insult. A lot of the times, I hear it said.
    That being said the kingdom hearts cutaway fucking sent me lmfao. I'm so happy I watched this while at work since I'm working alone. Just wish I could finish it but I'm saving the second half for tomorrow night 🤣😅

      Im glad its keeping you entertained at work and thats making you laugh a lot. That makes me happy.
      When i bring up something being heterosexual or being good and hetero im saying that it either conforms to or bucks the trends of hyper objectivity of women by men or treating your partner as an opponent or just... beung peter and lois Griffen. Its sorta a push back to how heterosexual main stream things are often just given a pass regardless of context but lgbt things are hyper criticized in today society so i kinda bit back at it. Ill admit i wrote this 2 years ago so its not exsactly the best it could be. Hetero relationships of any kind arent inherently bad its just when certain aspects are treated as ok when they're not is when i get an issue
