That's literally the highest compliment. The entire point of rehearsing is to go through the day without ever hearing your name once. That's a good day.
They have to be in incredible shape to do that. To have enough wind to play and run at the same time is an amazing feat, the contra players especially.
@milroxsox actually she is a trumpet player. Contras are held on the left shoulder. Also you can see her trumpet and that her arms stay up for a bit when the contra goes down
Its called Wind Sprints, My college marching band adopted this to emphasize keeping your upper body still, tone, and above all keeping air though your horn. It gets you in shape quick if your not let me tell you.
GRRRRR....Just when we were getting our high school band around to dance/body movement, now they throw this in !! I guess well have to start recruting band members from the track team ? What will they think of next ?...Way to go Phantom....SUTA !!!
Awesome. There's just one corps that could do that stuff, PHANTOM REGIMENT! My dream is to come to America and march with them. gr. Soprano nr. 5 at Beatrix' drum and bugle corps, Hilversum, the Netherlands.
How do they do it??? I have a move in our show where I'm practically running across the field, and I can barely get there let alone sound good while doing it! :)
These are guestimates but: 60(?) steps at a 4/5 stepsize = 75 yards I'm guessing tempo at 145-ish? Playing FFF Regardless of the numbers, it's corpsgasmic anyhow =)
now if i walked onto a football field and saw that headed towards me, i'd shit my pants and run the opposite direction screaming like a 3 year old. cuz thats a wall of beastly hardcore marchers and a wall of 140 decibels of soundd.
Yeah I marched with The Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps 2012 and 2013 on baritone and I hated jazz running. If I played while doing jazz runs I would be too winded to even play.
We did this for Colts in 2011, but the staff was angry at us and kept yelling at us to keep our horns up after every rep. We did it for 30 minutes without a break or putting our horns down. Twas not very fun. :(
@@nickniehaus1763 you drop your arms for a second then put your arms back up. You push through. We ran a segment for 30 min with horns up and resetting just turning around. Worst day in drum corps. The brass staff was pissed.
On of my favorite exercises that comes from being in a JD hornline. I was in SCV 18-19 and we did windsprints with our closer and opener both years. The one tempo in 19 being 206. I wish somebody had a video of it.
For all those wondering about the girl ending in "+1" as you say, she didn't end like that. If you've seen the show and payed attention, then you would see that when they stop jazz running, they end with their left foot forward like that.
wow playing and Jazz Running without any feet coming through the sound! I hope we will get that down in our marching group before St. Louis. That is absolutely awesome how great they play while jazz running oh and that is definitely a 4/5 step if it were smaller then they would just march really fast.
5 yard penalty. It's about both. first entertain. Second excecute said entertaining show as flawless as possible. If you're a clean as could be, you'll win.
I oftentimes have wondered if I could have done that when I marched drums corps back in the early 80's... don't think so! (And the mellophone runs? I'm actually jealous!)
I like how amazingly powerful that was and all that was said was "alright, good job."
drum corps staff in a nutshell ;) What you missed was where he said "now do it again with the tone less shakey"
That's literally the highest compliment. The entire point of rehearsing is to go through the day without ever hearing your name once. That's a good day.
+TrumpetBrony "AGAIN! "
"ONE MORE TIME!"
From what I’ve seen, getting a “good job” in drum corps is about the highest honor you could ever get during a rehearsal
If i had a nickel for every pixel, i'd have a nickel.
tstanton_ _ 😂😂😂😂😂
don't need pixels to appreciate sound and precision!
@@mbowers91amen to that
@@mbowers91percussion is mid
this one ain't really about the pixels
They have to be in incredible shape to do that. To have enough wind to play and run at the same time is an amazing feat, the contra players especially.
Without any shakiness. 🤯
This hornline and in general the brass, is so incredibly killer. I can't stop watching it on repeat
You and me both
This gives me life❤️
DCIaddict2601 My HS Marching band is playing same music and doing running hornline for our closer!
DCIaddict2601 Hopefully. If we change the drill we do the running...
That would be absolutely terrifying if they did a jazz run company front and you were a brass judge
Tommy you realize you’re too close to the hornline and just have to dead sprint from them
Oh fuck oh God
I don't know how I haven't seen this. That was one of the best phantom shows ever. Loved every bit of it.
"Good Job!"
3 seconds later...
"Run it back!"
Truly amazing how there sound is not at all affected, truly the best of the best right here.
OMFG!!!!!!!!!! They were SOOOO together and their upper bodies didn't move! Holy COW that is amazing!!! God, I love drumcorps!!
This is a good drill. New listening context (being next to different voices), covering, sprinting. I've done it in a few corps and always enjoyed it.
i am at a loss for words at how FREAKIN AWESOME THAT WAS!
Wow...amazing...the fact that the sound was great, they are running in time...AND in line...I can't believe I just saw that
Wow, you gotta be kidding me!! Awesome control!!! Phantom is one of my favorites!!
@milroxsox actually she is a trumpet player. Contras are held on the left shoulder. Also you can see her trumpet and that her arms stay up for a bit when the contra goes down

@mashdoctor They did jazz run during that part of the music, except it wasn't straight across the field facing the end zone like that.
Hot take: should have done THAT company front run at finals.
They're coming. Run.
The tempo appears to be around 182 and I believe they are marching (running) a 6 to 5 step size.
so. much. control!
GRRRRR....Just when we were getting our high school band around to dance/body movement, now they throw this in !! I guess well have to start recruting band members from the track team ? What will they think of next ?...Way to go Phantom....SUTA !!!
@TheLutt Survival tip: Just stand on their dots, and they won't hit you.
@JMdCProductions she clearly just got overanxious and wanted to keep going, playing those beautiful notes while jazz running ;)
If my band did that we'd sound like we were trying to sing while going 20 over a speed bump. =P Phantom Regiment is amazing.
That tuning they were playing sounded really familiar, does anyone know what it is?
Stravinsky : L'Oiseau de feu
i'm speechless. holy sh*t!
Awesome. There's just one corps that could do that stuff, PHANTOM REGIMENT! My dream is to come to America and march with them. gr. Soprano nr. 5 at Beatrix' drum and bugle corps, Hilversum, the Netherlands.
That was amazing.
@antibear777 i think she's playing a trumpet... but the guy next to her is like really unseen... i may be wrong
@Lightrix13 If it's indeed as you say a "dumb activity", why do you keep doing it and/or watching material pertaining to it?
@redknightdrummer What has been seen cannot be unseen.
Wow. I would expect a fourth-place drum corps to play in tune.
god thats amazing!!
That's such a band director thing to literally only say "Good job." after something that great.
ya but thats a bit harder to do with a sousaphone. which absorbs all the movement of your hips and makes it easy to hear your steps
Wow wow wow wow wow!!!!
love itttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
...that was a 2007 show... they won this year.
How do they do it??? I have a move in our show where I'm practically running across the field, and I can barely get there let alone sound good while doing it! :)
Sleyah thousands of hours of practice
"One more time, i swear, it's gonna be the last time..."
correct me if i'm wrong but it looks like they are taking 4:5 steps
is there anything harder in drum corps than what they just did?
agreed. straight legs FTW
that's crazy
was this actually for a preformance, or just showing off?
Ah! Jazz running for the win
it's not too small for phantom to jazz run...check out their 08 show, where the mellos jazz run a 7/5
be careful what you wish for, man....i've seen that kid march, and he's f***ing legit
Wow!
Fuck that sounded so good...
JESUS! Does anyone know how HARD that is?????? (Granted those are simply whole notes, but still)
BOSSES!
It is. :]
@RBVTBONE lol, true, it would just be hard to execute. At least for me :)
Get you're facts right. It is very obvious that this it The finale mov. from The Firebird By Stravinsky.
These are guestimates but:
60(?) steps at a 4/5 stepsize = 75 yards

yay mellos :)
"Marching band isn't a sport"
hahaha i completely agree. i would probably shit myself or vomit in awe.
im not sure any corps does that...without baris, you cant get the upper register in the low brass
now if i walked onto a football field and saw that headed towards me, i'd shit my pants and run the opposite direction screaming like a 3 year old. cuz thats a wall of beastly hardcore marchers and a wall of 140 decibels of soundd.
So do I.
the fucking camera!!!!
i march in the sun devils!!!
Firebird
Video template of my band director to freshman every year for motivation purpose 🙄
whats your name?
anyone else notice the ONE girl that ended +1
I'd shit my pants if I was standing on the field
Lets make that into a half to five step. Lol =P
I wish my school was awesome enough to do this.....
This is literally sex
At the end *entire contra line drops dead*
Dang! That's awesome! The fact that they can jazz run and still play that loud!
+Jacob Carter That is why they are drum corps, Euph Bluecoats 1993.

30 mins without a break? lol sounds counter productive...unless it was spring training and you were working endurance lol
30 minutes without horns down would cause tissue damage my dude
Nick Niehaus lmao if only, the human body can handle so much more than you think 30 minutes is actually nothing in a drum corps day.

That is called the "Phantom 5th" and that is one of many trademarks that makes them just that much more badass!
i feel like the audio gets more compressed as the years go by
It does, with every encoding.
Part of it has to do with improving digital audio quality as the years goes by, our ears adjust to the standard.
AMAZING! Incredible upper body control to be able to maintain that quality sound.
If I had a nickel for every pixel, I’d have a nickel. If I had a nickel for every decibel, I’d be rich
Hearing "alright exellent, good job" gave me chills because thats basically the medal of honor when it comes to rehersals lmao
the fact that the mellos could play that while running is just amazing.
Definitely heard them. As a horn player myself, I'd love to have the control to do that.
There is another video where he says keep your horns up. Turn around.
Ohh I see. It looked like she was holding the contra that was behind her. Well either way she (and the rest of the line) is beast. And that's awesome!
Now i can see how they were able to acomplish that part of the show. Imagine how hard it was to practice that running down the field! Amazing control!
"All right good job" what we didnt hear " lets do it again"
If this was a battlefield, they would win through sheer intimidation alone.
Yo dawg i heard you like runs!! So i put runs in yo runs! while your mellos run while they run dem runs!!!!
if this was a battle scene.....id shit my pants

Damn impressive. I couldn't imagine running with a contra on my shouder and not blup up the lick.
Add to that.... they kept the line pretty straight.
Oh thank you, I clicked on a couple of HS's bands trying to jazz run, thanks for bringing me back to reality.
that one hurt my lungs, feet, and core muscles. damn im such a phantom regiment phan :)
finale to firebird suite
they need to do this around america! Show everyone how amazing band really is!
