Very good points. That's the reason im so busy polishing out the paint and installing a ceramic coating on older vehicles. Keep your older vehicles up on maintenance, and you'll be very happy, folks!
Particularly European, hybrid and all electric due to long term maintenance costs . I bought a 21 Toyota Highlander 2WD new to get the V6 engine for 10yr + reliability.

@ECPP Your videos really have me thinking about my oil change intervals. I think I'm going to do them more frequently. Do you have a video on oil change intervals regardless of car or truck? Especially miles versus months..
In February of this year I bought the last year of the naturally aspirated 4 Runner! I got the TRDPro. Love it so much! So much character. Its a tank! I call it the General! Did a break in oil change at 1000 miles. I will be doing one more oil change and analysis at 5000mi and oil changes every 5000 mi thereafter. This ones a keeper. Heck, its already worth more than when I bought it. I think the 6th gen will not be reliable in the long run. Its now my "happy place" as I cruise on down the road . I heard there are literally no more new 24's at dealerships
Yes the market has flipped with increased tech and complexity as well as cost, the overall durability is questionable albeit there are some good ones left
The theory is that dealers know they cannot make money on sales like they did years ago so they compensate by selling unreliable, untested powertrains so that the service departments become the new cash cows.
Yes and from I see with several key OEMs, is that they have so many recalls it’s clear that they let the guinea pigs…..I mean consumers work out the bugs
Cars USED to be built for the consumer, now they are built for the investors. Now all they need to do is have those investors buy their whole inventory.
after viewing vids like this, I have to rethink buying a new car. My 8yo naturally aspirated V6 sedan works great, so I have to be nuts to consider buying a 3 cylinder turbo Buick with an oil bath timing belt. (despite the dynamite looks).
I like older since there’s actual HVAC controls, no 8-10spd trans, analog gauges, no cylinder deactivation & most of all no stupid annoying stop/start…

If I were buying a hybrid it would be either a Toyota or Honda they've been doing it the longest some models cost more to maintain after they're discontinued for a number of years examples include Mercury Grand Marquis retired in Jan 2011 the first panther platform triplet to be discontinued followed by the Lincoln Town Car 8/28/2011 and Ford Crown Victoria on Sept 15th 2011 or say you found a 1973 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Convertible though that was only produced from 1973-1975 and only 23,000 were built less than 5% of total Caprice volume
They keep making electric cars that no one wants, the infrastructure to charge them is pathetic, and the grid cant hamdle the increased demand. Total insanity
Best to buy a new vehicle with warranty and lower interest rate. You can buy someone else's squalor cheap but the time and cost at the repair shop kills the advantage with their parts and labor increases. I was getting gutted owning a 2005 Tacoma. That's right - an old Toyota kept me in the repair shop and it was miserable.
Yes I agree, it’s not the only answer, but we have to be more dynamic in our approach and start thinking outside the box. Sometimes it makes sense to buy new, but only quality brands with a better reputation and incentives to buy. Other times slightly used is and other times it’s a beater .
I HATE the hybrid and turbo 4s. Used stuff is way too much still. Waiting for the non turbo 6 cyl Palisade to come in now.. They dont have my color but its one of the few 6cyl naturally aspirated engines out there.

they are not cheap because price of new are raise alot and only what you can get for lower price now are several years old EVs but you buy risky junk with possibly battery and other defects so
I’m no expert but look at the winter you are in LOL I like a bigger engine just because of winter. I gave my son a CRV 2018 with 30,000 Ks on it and -40 in Canada the 4 baggers don’t keep you warm. lol yes lol shity parents. Yes I should bear some responsibility but my sons high school or my old high school got rid of all the shop classes and specialized in drama. True story
The best reason to buy and drive an older vehicle is the lack of nanny/surveillance tech.
Yes the older vehicles are worth holding onto and many of the newish ones are Lease only as they are too complex to keep for the longterm
Doesn't help that GM and other dealers are selling your driving info/habits to insurance companies.

Turbo is only thing and a manual trans lol cvt is trash I own 2jzgtevvti single turbo 7 years at 600hp daily drive it to work all the time

Long term costs for replacement parts and safety are some things to think about indeed
