    Getting closer . Cheers .

Yes it is getting a little closer to the end.
It's a balance to have time to work on this machine as i have been getting busier with time.
If I knew then what I know now I would have purchased a brand new machine.
Maybe in the next life, 😄😄😄

Nice video. I wondered how a lathe tool turret was locked in place so that was really cool to see.

      Hey Tim.
It seems to work fairly well.
When you consider this Turret design is from the early 80s it,s not to bad.

You have it going together great. It will be almost as good as new when your done

    • @weldmachine
      @weldmachine  4 роки тому

      Hey Lloyd.
Yes it,s coming together slowly but surely, just keep chipping away at it till it,s finished.
I like the idea of owning a new machine but can not justify buying new, at least this way i can get as close to a new machine as possible.
Now it,s mostly sheet metal parts to work on so i can run all the services.
But still plenty to do, LOL.

      Hey Colin.
Thanks for following along during the rebuild.
I hope all is well with you also.
Will be glad to get back to a somewhat normal life again, post Covid-19.

      Hey Joseph.
      Slowly getting there.
Today i just about finished assembling the complete Tool Turret less the Turret itself need to wait for a large internal seal.
Just a few internal sensors to add.
I was at my favourite Mazak dealer this morning ordering hopefully most of the Wipers and Seals i need to do the final assembly.
I still need to order a new Tooleye.
Most lightly a genuine Mazak part.
After comparing what is available non genuine the prices are not that far apart.
Not cheap in local money of around $1000 but comparing what else it seems not to bad.
Thanks for taking the time to watch.
      Peter.

Will you have the Mazak running before Keith Rucker has his planer going? No pressure ;)

      Hey Tim.
Good to see you checking in on me.
I have not seen what Keith is up to at the moment.
But i guess it,s always good to have some sort of Mission on the go.
Helps to keep me sane, lol.

Thanks for the great video, Question, Do you think the Doosan have the same setup? I'm leaking hydraulic fluids around the turrets area. I'm thinking something about the seal or O ring. Thank you!

      Hey Pat.
Tool Turrets on most CNC Lathes are fairly similar in design.
Manufacturers generally make small changes over a long period of time.
Basically they look very much the same under the machine covers.
The main differences on a CNC is the controller, the basics of the machines stay much the same.

Great installment. I liked seeing how the turret operates. Does it also create pressure that pulls the turret back to lock it in place once positioned?

      Hey John.
I thought showing how the Tool Turret operates might be interesting to see.
The hydraulic cylinder that operates the Turret disengagement is driven in both directions of un-clamping and clamping.

    Hi mate.
Robert Brown from Sydney here 🤝
Just found your channel and I’m fascinated by this Mazak Mission.
I admire your patience and tenacity, and I fully understand the need to fit in a project like this along with the main ‘breadwinning’ business. What ( roughly) do you reckon will be the final cost? Regards, Robert

      Hi Rob.
The cost of the rebuild is a little hard to tell ??
I can only say i did budget for about 40k including buying the machine.
The cost of the machine was just over half.
I have replaced a fair few sheet metal panels which has so far added up to around $ 2,500 plus powdercoat plus painting etc etc on the sheet metal parts.
I repainted the whole base after sandblasting which is extra.
I guess around $2,500 again just on the base only which includes a crane truck to transport the machine base to be blasted and averagely painted ????
( which finished being a pain with the guy i got to do this work, some i had to do again myself ???? )
The sheet metal could have been left as was but it is part of the rebuilding of the machine.
Allowing myself around 40k total has given me some movement to spend money on things i would like to change.
It is a little tough to get motivated to do work on the machine when i have
time, plus there are always other things to do also, which does not help.
I did go a little overboard on the rebuild but it was a case of just taking more and more parts off the machine until i got down to the base only.
The price of 40k was worked out from Maybe buying a Tormach CNC Lathe ??
Pretty much one would have cost to me in Australia.
At that time i was only making small parts and did consider buying until i seen the price, plus they are a fairly limiting on power for cutting anything half reasonable.
It was just a thought at the time but quickly changed when comparing how much for how much ?
Meaning for the money i could buy A lot better.
It has been a long road to get to where i am now.
But i also need to feel lucky that i can at least have this machine to rebuild.
If i had a chance to do it again ?
The answer would be NO, LOL.
Mostly because i need a machine running so i can run it.
When i purchased this machine i was not as busy making parts.
A long reply but i do enjoy talking about the rebuild.
If you would like to know more please ask.
      All the best.
      Peter.
