Luke set up new jedi academy on Gavin 4, Leia tried to balance senate and jedi training. Also no Rey, no Finn, no Poe; Most importantly NO Kylo Ren.
Disney royally screwed up on this.
That stormtrooper that Rey got go let her out of her restraints was Daniel Craig aka the most recent James Bond.
My headcanon is Chewy COULD have done a headshot/killshot on Kylo but couldn't bring himself to kill his nephew after just watching his bestie die. I'm convinced he missed on purpose.
I don't listen to rey haters in this chat as those people aren't true star wars followers.

I know people give the new Star Wars Trilogy a lot of flack, but this is one of my favorites in the series.
This made $2 billion dollars against a $447 million dollar budget.
Agreed, I think Rian Johnson (director of episode 8) made things far worse than they should have been. He really dug the franchise into a hole and made many decisions that just weren't great for the fans.
I like 7/8/9 more than 1/2/3 though.
Most of that $447M is probably from ppl who never read the books or ppl who were expecting book adaptation. This is a slap in the face to George Lucas creativity.

Rey’s not technically a jedi. Yet. She’s force sensitive. She needs to be trained, learn the jedi way
You don’t remember mind tricks? She learned she was force sensitive and thus figured she could perform one of the well known abilities. Granted it took her a few times, but with training she could eventually get it right away
Maybe no lightsaber training, but she did know how to use that staff she had. And letting the force flow through her helps a lot

I saw your disappointment with the ending of the movie, and I understand and felt it too. A compensation for disappointment I saw in an interview with Mark Hamill. He said that he was super excited about his character's return and was preparing for the role for a long time, and then in the final cut they decided that his entire participation would be in that scene. Now that is disappointing!
God I hate when people sit there and say oh she's a Jedi when she just does a couple of small beginning tricks
And, it turns out to be the WHOLE premise of the sequel trilogy.
Episode 8 and episode 9
caroline , you can show more of the movie if you want, i have an orange one i got at a comic book convention, they have an even newer one now i think that pops out like a real lightsaber, i forget what it's called
I thought this one had a lot of potential set up, even if it was a re-hash of Episode IV. I liked the new characters and the older characters taking more of a back seat. I even liked killing Han off... it upped the stakes in a very real way.
Things I didn't like...
1. The First Order is a silly concept. The New Republic established itself when the old Empire fell, but somehow, this group managed to not only pop back up but come back up in a way that people took them as a legitimate government? Even though they were basically the Empire that they just kicked out a few decades ago? And somehow the actual legitimate government became "The Resistance?" It would be like if after Germany re-unified, the new government said, "You know what? That Nazi party should be allowed to become a legitimate party again and take over our government." It was incredibly lazy storytelling that could just as easily been handled by it being a neo-Empire group trying to overthrow the New Republic.
2. The "lost piece" of the galaxy... surely with all this technology, there were backup maps... how do you "lose" an entire section of the galaxy? Now, not knowing exactly what system he was in or how to get there? That is believable - information about the old Jedi temples were lost - but to literally have a section of the galaxy that they know nothing about? Again, lazy storytelling.
3. The character assassination of Luke that starts here but is taken to all new heights in The Last Jedi. This is a character who epitomized hope. He fought when no one else would to try to redeem Darth Vader. He flew against the original Death Star when he had no experience in the Rebellion. He nearly sacrificed everything to save Han and Leia when he saw them being tortured in a vision. He was first to volunteer whenever he was needed for the greater good of the galaxy. He tried, he failed, he got back up again. He learned from his mistakes and triumphed. Now I'm supposed to believe that because of a failure keeping one student from going to the Dark Side, that he just "gave up" and hid in some missing piece of the galaxy? Just because that failure was a nephew? He turned his father back from the Dark Side - why am I supposed to believe he wouldn't still see the good in Ben?
People will disagree with me, sure... but it's for these reasons that the sequel trilogy will always be at the bottom of my list of Star Wars movies... yes, even behind Solo.

This trilogy has a difference than the other movies. Two different directors worked on them. Rian Johnson directed the next one and it sort of feels like it's own separate movie in my opinion. Because of that the 3rd movie felt rushed to me as JJ Abrams came back to close out what he started here. Rian is a fantastic storyteller when given his own movies and TV shows to direct but I feel like it was a bad idea having him direct the middle of a trilogy.
This will be the most interesting trilogy of all of them. I will look forward to you watching 8 and 9.
