The US was working on a Bomber that could have reached Germany from bases in the US, the B-36. But once we knew England was safe, the B-36 was delayed and the US built a lot more small bombers than one big one.

The allies were already in and using the Azores anyway. Portugal allowed the Allies to use the Azores as a base party to preclude Germany from thinking they might try to take them. There was an old treaty with Britain that made this 'legal' even though Portugal was a neutral county.
Bigger Issue still is they would have had no Escorts short of some odd parasite fighter on some of the bombers or something launched by U-boats. In short once the US established its own chain home and fighters to reach the bombers it would have been crippling to the bombers for no gain short of the use of poison Gas.
The Me 264 had a range of 12.000-15.000 km (9.000 miles). Enough to fly to New York and back. The technology was available- the Americans werde planing bombers to attack Nazi-Germany directly from the USA. The Me 264 was the first plane with fuel tanks in the wings. The later projects with 6 engines or jet-engines were planned to attack Chicago and fly back.

True but that was the whole issue in WW II was the leftover idea that the bomber will always get through. It would have been more about resources kept at home to defend the US, actual destruction of cities would have created demands to protect the US 1st. In the end it would have just dragged the war on for a few more years, at best. An ICBM based on the V2 would have been better, but still Germany would have lost in the end.

24 tons is 48,000 pounds. A ton is 2,000 pounds. Maybe you were refering to metric tons(I don't know how many pounds are in a metric ton). I wonder why there are a different number of pounds in a metric ton.

Germany may have faired better if wasn't for all the crazy plane and tank ideas and they just focused on making what worked

Why would Germany get to stage any bombing raids from the Portuguese Azores? Portugal was a neutral country in WW2.
Early on Germany was allowed to use the facilities. I supposed they could have seized them later!

Not quite. An Imperial (British) ton, also referred to as a long ton, is 2240 lb. As it happens, that is only 2% more than a metric tonne.
