Season 4 is an underrated classic. A shame it’s often cited as “a sign of decline”, because for being the first post-movie season, you can see that the crew is trying to experiment things to keep it fresh, and in the case for this season, it mostly works well. However, some of its earlier episodes were written during production on the first movie, which is explains why Fear of a Krabby Patty is also considered a classic to me.
The most underrated SpongeBob episode for me would have to be Karen's Virus. I'm personally not a big fan of seeing different animation styles in SpongeBob other than 2D. The stop motion specials are in my overrated episodes list and don't get me started on Sponge on the Run. But Karen's Virus is actually the one exception where using a different animation style in the show than the traditional 2D animation actually works. That episode is brilliant and unlike anything we've seen in the show. It's my favorite season 11 episode. And the season as a whole is underrated AF. Best season since the classics!
@@BradenINSANE I personally don't hear a lot of conversation about that film but if it doesn't count then I'll probably say The Algae's Always Greener is my most underrated. People actually do talk about that episode but it's only because of the "Oh my goodness! Squidward!" meme but from a writing standpoint, people don't see how brilliant it is.
People actually believe the show turned bad the moment Season 4 started? REALLY?! Then how can you explain episodes like Krusty Towers, MM & BB 6: The Motion Picture, and Bummer Vacation? Also, words cannot explain how happy I was to see The Algae’s Always Greener on Number 5. I knew I wasn’t the only one to find this one of the best of the first three seasons. Though that can be slightly excused for me considering that I consider Band Geeks to be mid.
I don’t think "The Algae is Always Greener" is one of the most underrated episodes, as there are still plenty of iconic and memorable moments from that episode that people still talk about to this day (as with most of the first three seasons). Same goes with "Fear of a Krabby Patty," I often see it as one of the more highly rated episodes of season 4 (and it has A LOT of meme worthy moments, which is something not every season 4 episode has). As for my personal opinion, I think "Krusty Kleaners" is the most underrated episode, as it is a genuinely really good modern episode that not many people really talk about.
Btw, if I had an underhated list of my own, you know what I’d put? 4 words: Breath of Fresh Squidward. When people talk about this episode, or any Squidward torture episode for that matter, they keep arguing that SpongeBob is a dick. But the moment they see a SpongeBob torture episode, their sense of karma turns 180 degrees and they start arguing that SpongeBob never deserved the torture instead. Breath of Fresh Squidward was my last straw with SpongeBob and the very thing that made me like his torture episodes.
Season 4 is underrated as a whole though it’s not as consistent as the first three seasons. However, it’s still not as awful as many claim it to be. It’s far better than the seasons that came after it and it still maintained some of the pre movie elements specifically the first half. In fact some of the episodes and songs from Season 4 were made during the sessions of the first movie. To me, the quality of the show didn’t really get bad until Season 6.
5. It's a good start for the season and has a bunch of great quotes. Oh I just noticed that the "SOILED IT!" part has Plankton's eye switching to white a few times. 4. It's... The best special of season 9 but I don't think that's saying much. I HATE the slogan but other than that, it's pretty good and the scene at 2:43 is funny. 3. This is one of the first SpongeBob episodes I watched but I never truly liked it. It's fine ig. 2. A good start for post-movie SpongeBob. I don't think the show got bad as soon as this episode, it just became less interesting and more flawed and mid overall. 1. Free Samples is ok imo. Drive-Thru sucks though, I don't dislike it cuz of the design change, I dislike it cuz of how dumb it gets in the second half. "Oh I'm feeling especially jovial, y'know being a teenager and all." "oH hOw ClEvErLy MeTa durrrrr" and she destroys Squidward's ear and he tells us that it legit damaged his ear! I also hate how a cop gives Krabs a ticket for turning Bikini Bottom into a parking lot, bruh, they didn't mean it!!! And the cop even tells him that he should definitely watch out for the mayor so you'd think that would lead to a tense scene where they'd start working even harder so the mayor wouldn't give him shit but NO, he arrived right after the cop! Argh...
I'd like to as if there will be a Top 5 Underhated Episodes list eventually, to complete the overhated, underrated, overhated and underhated collection?
@@Spongyreviews1999 Well the second half of season 4 (after Mrs Puff you're Fired), this season was less emulating previous seasons, and more of it's own thing. Definitely not bad, they're still some bangers in the second half, but that's why I wouldn't call it a full on "classic season". (Also which season would you put above season 4?).
Now all there's left is the "Underhated" episodes. The ones that get less hate than it really deserves, and unlike OVERRATED. These episodes actually suck.
4:39 well, an easy explanation is that the storyboard director for fear of a krabby patty worked exclusively on a large number of pre-movie episodes and only that singular post-movie episode (though i don't agree with the sentiment that everything post movie is bad, and there's also the fact that aaron springer worked on some of the best pre-movie episodes and also stuff like pet or pests and choir boys, but it's still pretty easy to point that out) i had always thought that the algae's always greener was just another "great pre-movie episode that doesn't stand out as being above and beyond", but when i rewatched them all i surprisingly found it to be my second favorite of the entire show. the role reversal concept works so well and it's one of the funniest pieces of media i've ever seen, with the role reversal aspect strengthening a lot of the jokes a good bit

It’s mainly SpongeBoomers who say that.
Another analogy for season 9 is that it basically ran the entire lifespan of Nintendo's Wii U.
I think an underrated episode would be the Slumber Party from Season 6. I always loved the jokes in that episode as well as the outcome.
