Hi friends! Hope you enjoy this video where I share with you three beautiful professional model flutes from the Flute Center of NY! Which one was your favorite? :)
can you review pearl pf-885 or other series in pearl? this is my grandfather's flute model he gave me ( he was a flute professor in south korea long years ago)
As usual you sound just fine on these flutes. But I thought they pretty much sounded the same. What would be interesting to know is how much did you have to adjust to each flute, how much resistance and response did each have? Can you play easier in the high and low registers? How about dynamics, was that easy to achieve? How about the ease of articulation in terms of clarity? This is a very noticeable feature on flutes I have found esp. double/triple tonguing. These are extremely crucial aspects to experienced players as this helps your phrasing and musicality immensely! Thanks for posting.
All of these flutes are amazing! I've tried these flute but in different metals when I was looking for a new professional flute. I tried all of them in sterling silver instead of pure silver and 15/85. This video really reminded me of when I tried all of these back in October. I found, both in this video and when I tried a Burkart, that the Burkarts are really flexible if you know how to play one. Which of course, you know how too. Burkart flutes are honestly, in my opinion and words from my professor who is a Burkart artist, best for soloist. The sound of Burkart flutes tend to be very powerful and open, which is not the best for chamber/orchestral music. I loved playing the Altus a few years back, however when I tried it last fall, everyone only seemed to have the Platinum Atsui 1407, which I didn't favor. The sound went really dull with the platinum plating. However, I can see why most like Altus since it has a much darker sound than the other two. Which is weird, I find Altus and Nagahara are the only Japanese made flutes that play with a dark sound. The Brannen was amazing, but it really controlled my sound to much. So, it was extremely difficult to play on it. I could play with tone colors and everything, but it was way more work than it was in years past. In the end, I went with a Burkart Elite, I prefer the sound of it and it's definitely a flute that can be continually grown into. Also, if I ever had an orchestra gig or such, I could always invest in a wood head joint since that fixed the problem for my professor. Great video, and I enjoyed how consistent you were with how you played the excerpts. It makes the video more honest and fair. In this video, I definitely would say the Altus was my favorite.
Great playing and all beautiful flute demos! After listening on several devices 1 Altus 2 Brannen and 3 Burkart in this particular sampling. Thank you!
I loved the Altus and the Brannen, the colour of the Altus is better in my opinion but the Brannen is so clear. I would pick depending on my preference whilst playing, cause both are very interesting
I feel Altus is very well tempered in the flute scale. Even though the flute scale is on the eaqual temperament, it sounds very natural and easy to my ears as if I were listening to the pure temperament. I love Altus.
I'd get the Altus if it was purely up to this test alone. In my headphones it sounds the most like the way I like my flutes to sound. Dark, warm, but still projective.
The Altus 1707 has the best sound in my opinion, the Brannen has clear articulation, almost too clear but it is very focused sounding. I didn't really find much that I liked about the previous two flutes though haha....really loved how you made the Altus 1707 sound...what is your personal flute? I play on a Yamaha 774 with a Bradley Garner headjoint.
Hey Katie, this video comparison is great because I love each brand. Brannen is powerfull and reminds me of Galway. The Altus sounds so frenchy. The Burkart has a british or german sound. These flutes are all beautiful. Soundwise I would prefer the Burkart (2nd the Altus). The best mechaniksm of all three is on the brannen (2nd Burkart) if you don't count the c#-trill which I found rather irritating on Brannen flutes. For me the lever is missplaced. In the end I would choose a Burkart again. I already own one myself :-). Which one did you like the most and why? Greetings Benjamin
The Brannen sounded slightly darker but overall but prefered the tone of the Altus, a bit brighter and slightly more malleable in tone. Different head joints can make a difference too.
I have an Altus so I'm biased, it is probably my favorite alongside the Nagahara. Brannen, whether or silver or gold, are bright - brighter than what I like personally. Burkhart was nice, warmer than the Altus with more overtones. Altus just has the most beautiful singing high register and a darker, sweeter tone overall. Sankyo also has some great pro models now. I'd rank these Altus, Burkhart, Brannen overall. For orchestral playing you'd want the Brannen for the projection.
I like first one and the last one.. if was my first choice will be the first one sounded mellow sound and have higher richer sounded. Last one have slight similarities however is have richer sound.
I wish you would say a few words about how each flute felt to play. How was the action? Are the keys noisy? do you feel there is good dynamics and tone colors available? as well as how smooth it performs in the 3rd octave. Which do you think is the best for the money. Thanks
I prefer the sound of the 1707 from these short clips. However, I might be biased. I use an 1807 with an original 15/85 Lafin headjoint. I feel it gives me the best of both worlds (Altus/Brannen) when it comes to sound philosophies. I really like the brazed tube and the mechanism on the Altus, but prefer the power and the flexibility of the Lafin over the original Altus cut. For resonance and sheer power it's a combination I would recommend everybody to try out at some if you have the opportunity even though I realize it might not be everybody's cup of tea ;)
Unlike most student flutes, these flutes have b footjoints. This makes it look longer because it is! It adds an extra key so you can play an extra note :)
Also just my opinion but the Burkhart sounded really hard to play like it was taking a lot of air and concentration the other two sounded like it was just sweet and natural
Her intro is the finale few measures is the Godard Suite in 3 (Suite en Trois I think), first movement. You can find it any any major music/instrument retailer like FCNY.
hi Haley! The first piece is part of Telemann fantasie in f# minor, and the second is Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster arranged by my teacher Paula Robison :)
I just started listening to your posts for the first time. When you are talking about the specs of the flutes you say French, or open hole. I think this is misleading. I believe the manufacturers are saying the key "style" is French pointed arm keys as opposed to plateau style keys. Both French and plateau style keys can be open holed. But it is not French, or open hole.....which you are alluding to the two terms being synonymous.
Just a tip here: We don't use the term open holed because holed doesn't have any connection to flutes, the holes, or the process of making holes. This seems to be a commonly misused word for some reason and it gets perpetuated. Hope that helps out!
Why is it these videos hustling high-end flutes from the Flute Center of NY never give the prices of these instruments, many of which are way out of reach of most flutists. I mean, you're talking flutes that are at least $12,000. Makes more sense to buy a respectable used Haynes, Powell, Muramatsu, et al. Many of these older instruments are far superior to the newer low-end models, and by low-end I'm talking anything under about ten grand. Frankly, I don't know how a lot of these high-end flutemakers stay in business.
I know you are selling flutes but i can asure u that my old Yamaha 24S sounds as wonderful and fuller than these expensive ones...And the Yamaha is not even silver made. Just silver plated. All nickel. But its from the 70s...where materials where better...the same happens with all brands of flutes. Old is better.

katieflute, is it free shipping only in the US or...?

Whenever I go to a convention, these are usually my favorites... It´s nice to hear them back to back! I loved the color on the Altus the best :)
The altus was my favorite too!!! :D
I liked the Altus best, because it had the darkest tone.
Did not expect to hear any difference. But I liked the Altus best. Nice colour in the sound and liked the intonation.
Ja, ALTUS ist auch meine Flöte! 👍 Ich habe eine 1507, mit Britannia Silber, ist ein super tolles Instrument!!! 👍👍👍
The tone of the Altus flute was the most pleasing.
Brannen flutes have such a gorgeous sound omg it’s like butter is the best wording I could choose
That Brannen though ❤️

Nagahara is American. Boston area.
@@brgokey Thank you for the correction. I thought it was, but many of my colleagues kept saying otherwise.
I LOVE the sound of an Altus 💘
Hi, Katie!! Can I give u a recommendation to do the "Whats in my flute case/bag" video? I'm really curious to see it haha lol! Love u Kat!
They all sounded gorgeous. ❤️❤️❤️ You made them sound beautiful.
I’d be delighted with any one of these.
They all have beautiful qualities, but my ears like the Brannen. Your tone is beautiful on all three makes.
Great playing and all beautiful flute demos! After listening on several devices 1 Altus 2 Brannen and 3 Burkart in this particular sampling. Thank you!
I think you got the best sound from the Altus but the others sounded good too.
Altus is just wow.. very open and sweet sound.. altus atsui technique and head joint really changes the sound..
I LOOOVE Burkarts!!! Especially their elite 998, 595 and HW Sterling
burkarts are great!! I have a burkart piccolo :)
I loved the Altus and the Brannen, the colour of the Altus is better in my opinion but the Brannen is so clear. I would pick depending on my preference whilst playing, cause both are very interesting

Wow my favorite with you on this was definitely the Altes
I'd get the Altus if it was purely up to this test alone. In my headphones it sounds the most like the way I like my flutes to sound. Dark, warm, but still projective.
I liked all three but the Brannen had the nicest tone.
thanks for watching :))

I find that the same flutes can sound so different depending on the player. Altus and Brannen are my favourites.

Katie your tonging on the burkart is a bit off. Try not to do french tonguing!
Altus FTW 👌🏻
The Brannen sounded slightly darker but overall but prefered the tone of the Altus, a bit brighter and slightly more malleable in tone. Different head joints can make a difference too.
You sounded awesome! The FCNY is awesome!
So Cool !!!
Beautiful Dreamers...very nice.
My opinion is partial because I have a Brannen-Cooper. I don't need to tell you which one I preferred. The power!

Love u Katie 😘❤️😘💕💖
My favorite is Altus. I play on Altus 907.
I love my Altus, but the Brannen sounded great too 😃🎶
thanks, Claire! The altus was my favorite for sure :)
1707 so typical of nervosity, reactivity
Brannen so round and expressives
Bukart perhaps for orchestra challenge.
Thks
Omg me and you play the same brand of flute! I play a Muramatsu Platinum Clad and 14k gold!
Ahh that's awesome! Love my muramatsu :)
Altus for sure. It definitely sounded the easiest to get the most beautiful sound
Altus sound the best
The altus had the prettiest tone.
NICE!!!
Altus is the best ❤
I play on the Altus 1107 with the V cut and I love it. This was an informative video! What’s the second except?
The altus was my favorite by far!! The second piece is Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster arranged by my teacher Paula Robison :)
1707 had the best resonance.
By the way I’m familiar Piece is that Telemann fantasie ??? I heard it before I’m not sure who had played before in live person.
I love you, good video❤️
I really like the pieces of music that you had played. Anyone knows the names of them?
Not sure of the first but the second is a beautiful tune called 'beautiful dreamer'
@@brendanlucas4316 thank you
The Brannen ♥️♥️♥️😭
i pick the Brannen...great clip again Katie..
thanks, Pierre!
In my opinion, the Brannen has much more depth and color although the Altus and Burkart were clearly strong contenders.
How long you’ve been playing flute..I’m just learning...Thanks.
Kimberly Culbreth I’ve been playing for 16 years :)
It looks exceptional long

katieflute. Thanks

What music are u playing on the video?
I love Brannen but it is too expensive
i feel ya lol $$$
Everyone's dream flute.
My favorites here are both the Altus and Brannen! What do you play on?
the altus was my fav :) I play on a Muramatsu!
The name of the Flute playing in the intro tune is the Flute that caught me. What is the name?
It's the Allegretto from Suite of Three Pieces by Godard :)
As always, a very useful video. Where can I get the music to your intro jingle please?
Her intro is the finale few measures is the Godard Suite in 3 (Suite en Trois I think), first movement. You can find it any any major music/instrument retailer like FCNY.
@@Jenifer.flute20 thanks, I asked that two years ago so found the article a while back. It has become a fa ourite
I thought that the Altus had the most vibrant sound, and the widest variety of tone color.
The Burkart
Hi. What pieces did you play in this video?
hi Haley! The first piece is part of Telemann fantasie in f# minor, and the second is Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster arranged by my teacher Paula Robison :)
Como e lamento eu não sei
Altus by a mile ! Any views??
Anybody know what she played
Liam Evangelista Telemann fansantsie

By way of my untrained ear, I thought the Altus was the flutiest.
Altus
nice girl:)
