- Plant identification is a key aspect of learning about our environment and the plants that surround us. Our friend August from Mount Pisgah Arboretum will teach you all about the iconic Oregon White Oak and easy clues to identify it when exploring the valley.

Strengthening the bonds between people and plants for a healthier world.
So interesting but too short! I feel like it cut off at the end and I wanted to hear rest of what he was going to say ☹️
Thanks for the feedback, Leanna! ~Mason
You should have taken a close up of the white oak leaf
Super cool fascinating video! Wondering what the history of the tree is, like if it’s native or introduced, and what type of site it prefers. Awesome to see the galls and learn about the wasps that use the leaves in their life cycles. Thanks so much! Would love to come visit someday!
Thanks for watching! ~Mason
Is there a difference between the Oregon white oak and the standard white oak?
Yes! Both species fall under the oak tree family, which encompasses hundreds of species. Oregon white oak is Quercus garryana, while white oak is Quercus alba. 🌲
Do galls kill the oak?
Hi there! Great question! One or two galls will not likely kill the tree, but an infestation of them can. It often takes a few years. You can avoid this by pruning the infested limbs. I hope that helps :) - Gracie
