    Thank you, Chandeep! This video was perfect for helping me learn DAX right now! As usual you made this video rich with great advices. I like the idea about not trying to memorize the DAX functions but try to understand the behavior of the functions. The advice about to clear the idea of "input" and "output" in my head is simple and powerful. This is exactly what I needed. I felt overwhelmed with all specific videos and tips about DAX which are out there, all of them are so great, but I just didn't know where to start. Also I wrote down for myself your advice to understand thoroughly DAX evaluation process and it's 3 steps...though I didn't understand yet why it is so important. And "think tables" - is such a good advice! It's the hardest for me now: to switch to think tables instead of cells. I have vast Excel experience and every time using DAX I try to use my Excel knowledge because it looks kind of similar. But "think tables" - it's so different and new concept for my brain! It don't want to obey me and think tables yet)))) But I have a hope to change my brain and finally understand the DAX concept! Thank you for your work, Chandeep! Your learning videos and advices are a great help to me! I hope one day to become as professional in DAX as you are.

    What makes DAX tuff for me is when I go beyond Calculate/ALL/Values/Filter function like Addcolumns/Summarize/Calculatable and other Advanced table functions and I see there are few videos on this table function on your channel, I regularly follow your channel so It will helpful for me and everyone if you can create some videos related Advanced table functions.

    What makes Dax hard is that it is obscure, implicit, and rigid. No debugger, no explanation of what's going on, no way to return table measures or switch measures, VAR is actually a constant, etc etc and don't get me started with autoexist bugs.

    • @chrisa8203
      @chrisa8203 2 роки тому

      You can return table measures. You the table function in PBI desktop. You can visually see the output of your virtual table.

      @olemew 2 роки тому

      @@chrisa8203 I didn't say see, I said return. That will raise a syntax error, and this is Dax 101.
      Returning means you could invoke and reuse it in other measures.
      Anyway, to see tables I'd use Dax studio, which is much more convenient than creating a calculated table, if that's what you meant.

    • @chrisa8203

      @@olemew yes, it will return the table. And you can also build calculated columns, relationship, etc. off the DAX table. I primarily use it to see the virtual table I’m working in my scalar measure.

    Does it scare me? Oh man, it is pure hell! I never spent so much time to uderstand something. Something which at the end is simple as badic math. And i still cannot understand steps of calculate. I am thinking about to „really understand”. Thats really strange how complicated it is to get some really basic math calculateions there in DAX. Steps of calcluate in DAX Bible=hell
    Teach us in depth how calculate works and i think it could be a milestone:) i hate teady to go patterns etc. I need to understand. That is my way
