    This piece is so difficult technically. But Augustin makes it looks easy and brings such beautiful artistry to it. Tchaikovsky himself would be delighted. Thank you!

    In Hadelich’s hands, I’m convinced that this is now the only version and the only interpretation of this delightful masterpiece. I’ve never heard this version before. Must be the original version. Hadelich now “owns it” for the ages. Bravo!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    Interesting that Augustin added his own impromptu so while this piece is normally played for about 6 minutes, in his interpretation it's about 2 minutes longer. He seemed to compose his own little embellishments to Tchaikovsky's piece.

    • @AugustinHadelichViolin
      @AugustinHadelichViolin  3 роки тому +25

      actually what i played is Tchaikovsky’s original! but there is a version with cuts that is done most often, which cuts over two minutes including the cadenza in order to make it “encore-length”, whereas originally it was more of a”concert piece”, that genre of works for soloist and orchestra between 8 and 15 minutes.
      i think approve of the cut at the end the most, because it is a rather strange ending! but for the rest i enjoy it too much to cut it.

    Here is the original version, which is longer and with a more developed central part. Since I discovered this version I can no longer listen to the most played version. The arrangement by Vassily Bezekisky (1835-1919) is the abridged version with a rewritten violin part, until today, more popular than the original.

    Great virtuoso performance from Augustin Hadelich, but I can´t agree with him that this version of the Valse-Scherzo is better than the usually played version. In my opinion this extended version just introduces various segments without musical justification, thus stopping the melodic flow of the music. The passage at the very end is really strange, cutting off the brilliant ending with a G string chromatic sequence which doesn´t add anything at all, in fact detracts. If Tchaikovsky himself made the alterations leaving the final version as we know it, I think he was absolutely right. Bravo Augustin your performance is really top!

    • @AugustinHadelichViolin
      @AugustinHadelichViolin  3 роки тому +18

      I agree that the ending with the solo violin segment is certainly strange! But the original cadenza is much more virtuosic and more interesting.
      Tchaikovsky did not make the cuts, that was done much later, in order to get the length within 5 minutes, so it would be encore-length. The genre the Valse-Scherzo was originally part of is one that doesn't get programmed a lot today, that of the 10-15 minute "concert piece" with orchestra. (Chausson Poème is another example)
      Here is an explanation on the background of the versions. www.henle.de/blog/en/2016/10/31/at-full-length-%E2%80%93-finally-an-urtext-edition-of-tchaikovsky%E2%80%99s-unabridged-valse-scherzo/

    It seems to be the original version ? Like in the violin concerto, where almost nobody - exept some russians like Oistrach, out of patriotism, as he called it to Menuhin - plays the original version, since Auer ? shorted the repetitions. See also Schumann Fantasy for violin, where the Kreisler version is more preferred because Schumann repeated some phrases and seemed to find no exit . It was his last composition, if I am right.

    this is a different version than we usually hear. is this like Tchaikovsky's original and what we normally hear is someone else's arrangement? maybe Tchaikovsky did two arrangements of it? i'm confused. my own score doesn't mention any separate arranger. anyway, i prefer the version that's normally heard - this one's too repetitive.

    • @AugustinHadelichViolin

      This one is Tchaikovsky's original. The modified version that is often played is about 3 minutes shorter and is missing half of the middle section and the cadenza, as well as part of the ending. I think some of the cuts make sense but overall this one makes for a better and more complete piece, once you get used to it.

    With Jeff Bezos at the piano! He plays the original version of this I guess - most of us vastly prefer the abbreviated version which avoids extraneous material. Mvt. 3 of Tchaikovsky Concerto has the same problem - multiple measures of what just sounds like "extra unnecessary notes." Thankfully Auer came along and took them all out, despite never being a big fan of the piece, and that's what like 95% of us play today.
