Thank you for taking the time to document this. I'll share my slight alteration to your fix that worked for me (and didn't require 3d printing). I took the smallest drill bit I could find (made for my dremel) and drilled a small hole behind the one that gave out. there is slighly more tension but it works perfectly now. Also the metal rod the spring attaches to (in the door) can be moved out with a pair of needle nose pliers. This makes the final assembly easier.
You are awesome! I strongly suspect that this is the exact same problem with my DYMO 160 LabelManager. As I neither have your technical skills nor your patience, I fixed the problem in a different way. Just found my 40+ years old dymo embosser label maker in the drawer - this will be my go to label maker going forward. Very low tech, made before planned obsolescence was invented and uses no batteries - I love it.
It is incredible how poorly this part is designed, that so many people run into that issue. And we are just the few geeks that actually try to repair stuff. Thanks for the video, i'm currently sitting in front of my opened dymo with the same issue, trying to reinforce the cracked loop with glue, since I don't have a 3d printer. Wish me luck
Update: reinforced the part with tons of glue, hooking the spring back in was easier when you remove the silver pin instead of flexing the fork open that holds the pin. You can just push the pin out and push it back in. In the end, I had a few parts left-over that fell out, including a spring and some plastic pieces. But the dymo works great now, so I assume they were just decoration :P
Really good video by the way. It worked for me. Instead of 3D printing I drilled a tiny hole next to the hole that broke. Seems to work. I’m 100% convinced this fault is planned obsolescence from DYMO.
Great Video! One recommendation to make life easier for anyone undertaking this repair. After you have attached the spring back to the actuator (the plastic armature inside the unit), tie a piece of thin wire to the other end of the spring and feed it through the hole to the lid. You can then pull the spring with the wire to get it over the pin in the lid, and when it's in place, simply pull the wire out.

Thanks for the video, pointed me to the right direction, tried to fix it using spring and gave up. Took piece of the label material bunched it up a bit and tucked it in between spot that pushes the label to print head. Little nudging and I can replace cartridges no problem.
I cut off the end of a wooden clothes hanger to use as a shim behind the print head, effectively bypassing the spring. It's crude, but it works - heck of a lot easier than disassembling the thing to going through what you did. If you use this approach, you have to make sure the shim is slim enough to only press against the actual support arm of the print head, and NOT against the actual swiveling portion, otherwise it will cam the swivel head and cause feed rate and printing issues.

Same problem. I see the spring when I open the door. I don’t think I have these kinds of skills. But thankfully after a little back and forth with Dymo, they’re sending me a replacement device. I didn’t have the receipt from 2.5 years ago, but they are replacing as a “goodwill gesture.” I guess I’ll just have to toss this one!

Okay. Here’s the deal. I have the SAME problem, and judging by the comments there are many out there pulling their hair out too. This is clearly an attempt by DYMO to build in obsolescence. If you don’t know the meaning of that word, look it up. It’s actually gangster-like for a big corporation like DYMO to try this trick on an unsuspecting public. Really disgusting. Believe me, DYMO know the problem and are fully aware on how to correct this design fault. But, and here’s the $64,000 question, imagine the drop in their profits. As long as there is very limited competition, these corporations will continue to manufacture goods with built in problems and therefore built in obsolescence. MF’ers.
there's a massive lawsuit between mcdonald's and Kytch right now over mcd's ice cream machines, the franchisees have always been responsible for repair costs and the vendor for the machines makes a few hundred million on repair costs every year going back decades. Kytch hacked the machines and found faulty code, mcd's and the icecream machine vendor actively conspired against Kytch and got hit with a $900 million lawsuit from them. Also reminds me of the lightbulb in some firehouse in San Fran, has been on for over a century. THANKS modern life, can't wait for my pod and bugs, I'll be here waiting while eating my domino's pizza I ordered with Klarna's four easy future payments of $4.99. Also my Dymo has the same problem :(
