Quite a few of these games are already on my backlog (hopefully I'll get there eventually). Thanks for reminding me about Freelancer! I spent quite a long time playing the demo version back in the day, but I've never gotten round to playing the full game.
Old games I’ve played/replayed in 2024. X-Com: (UFO Defense/Enemy Unknown) with finalxcom mod. Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines (trying different mods as well) Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and it’s expansion can’t recall the name. (Never really finished it’s extremely hard campaign back in the day) Booted up Homm3 as well but I do that every year.
The Dig was the best movie game that wasn't taken from a movie. I played all these back in the day (except the console games - was purely computer VIC-20 to C-64 to Atari ST to PC!), so need to get some of them out again!
Picking a favorite between Heroes of Might & Magic 2 and 3 is a task only the strongest of us can do. I think I have to agree with your pick though, Janosik, even if it hurts in my skeleton.
I went out to have drinks with friends lady night and we actually talked about Heroes. All of us agreed that 3 was objectively the best of them all, but also each of us liked a different one the most. I 2, and those two friends 3 and 4 respectively. And also, all of us agreed that despite its many faults the 4th game was the most interesting mechanically. I mean, you gotta imagine this conversation in raised voices with drinks in hand, but other than that, that’s precisely how it went. ;)
Yep, fun game, I've covered it in one of the episodes of "10 years of Early Windows Gaming" for the year 2000. Don't remember which one, but it's there if you're curious how I feel about it.
My friend Craig, who was a Diablo fanatic, loved Nox. He played it a hell of a lot. I was exclusively playing Quake back then so I never tried Nox. Tried it last year, for the first time, and got a good way into the game. Definitely has class, and as you say better than most Diablo clones for sure. But I got bored after a few nights and gave up. Maybe I'm getting older but I prefer Lionheart : Legacy of the Crusader over Nox, theres a bit more roleplaying to it and story, etc.
It's a criminally overlooked game. I think the reason may be because it plays out too much like a movie, and too little like a game. You can tell where each scene is, and how the devs wanted it to play out. And while I find it fun and like a lot of work went into it, perhaps not everyone's enjoying this kind of a storytelling in games. I mean, even in the opening scene, during the press conference, it plays out like a star to a good movie.
It may be a tough choice for some, but for me Ocarina takes the cake. Both great games, but Ocarina was like this amazing fantasy adventure, that I never knew that I needed in my life, and when I was take on it, and allowed to take it all in, I had a blast all the way through. And Metal Gear Solid was just a great game. :)
@@OldAndNewVideoGames And Baldur's Gate is also a game from 1998 that resonates to this day. From Mass Effect to Baldur's Gate 3, it changed the gaming world =)
I replay Jagged Alliance 2 every year. One of these days I'm going to use trainers to play the series as a combined saga again. The one time I did this I added a portion of the money I had left over when I beat the previous game to my starting funds for the next game (The longer passed between the games the less money carried over) plus changed my character's skills to match those he had at the end of the previous game for games that allowed creating a custom merc. Last time I did this was long before Jagged Alliance 3 came out though.
The time that went by is an excellent reason to replay it. :) I gotta tell you, that while I've not replayed it in full many times, I've "replayed" it dozens of times and I can probably walk around the entire Goodsprings with my eyes closed. xD
It's such a theoretically simple game, but given how it plays on our memories of heroes of our childhood, and also allows for a creation of our own campaigns, makes it infinitely replayable.
Last year, played again Freelancer on a retromachine i built, and finished it. It was really one of the best games from the time, great music, graphics (for the genre) and plot. I remember spending hours exploring nebulas and asteroid fields for drops.
I still think the best Civilization game ever made was Civilization 2 Advanced, for Windows 95. Even though I've spent countless hours playing Civ 5 + 6. Alpha Centauri is up there with Civ 2. It's one of the best strategy games in history. I got the game without a manual back in the day and it took me forever replays to figure it out, but then I couldn't stop playing. Broforce is a great game. Played it relentlessly (along with Rayman Legends) with my (then) 7 year old daughter to ensure she stayed away from Roblox and other mindless garbage. We had so many laughs and it gave me an opportunity to explain to her who every single one of the Bro's were, and led into us watching some of those 80's movies. Deus Ex is probably the best video game of all time.
Your description of your time with your daughter playing Broforce is just the most wholesome thing I've heard all week. You're a good father, sir, yes you are!
Great video, one game I absolutely loved that hasn't been released for ps4 ps5 is dungeon siege 3. I'm always trying to find similar games. I'm even tempted to buy a older gen console to play it again

Personally, I prefer it on the bottom, but I'm curious how you got it up there. Also, nice score! ;) I've only played the chapter 1 of Life is Strange, but I intend to get the whole game, so will replay that bit too. It has really captivating story and gameplay. :) The rest are mostly new to me (apart from Lemmings), so I won't be replaying them, but will hopefully be playing them for the first time.

@OldAndNewVideoGames Pinball Fantasies will always be my favourite pinball game. :) I'll probably replay it at least once a year. I play it on my dad's birthday, along with an episode of Star Trek TNG. :) I bet that I've only seen a bit of what Life is Strange has to offer. I look forward to the rest of it. :)
Solid choices, I'd replace SimCity with SimTower tho, coz I feel like it. Speaking of Diablo - recently replayed Hellgate:London, wanted to finish that evoker playthrough, I find the gameplay loop very relaxing. Half Life you say? I agree, its time for a replay, especially with the recent update and added commentary mode, I'd like some fresh perspective on it. Oh hey XCOM:EW, like that one way more than the newest installments, cartoonish style worked way better with it.
"coz I feel like it" is one of the best/strongest arguments when it comes to gaming, cause we should always play what we want to, and not what others say is worth it. So excellent argument, once again, and no, it's not sarcasm. :) You know what would be great? If all those re-releases of HL ended up with us silently getting HF3, with no ads for it whatsoever. I mean, if Valve would drop it on Steam on the down low and just observe how people would react. At first, one person would find it my mistake, looking for something entirely different. So that person then would naturally post abour it on Twitter with a caption going more or less like that "Ha ha! Yeah right! Nearly got me #Valve", and that post would hang there for a week or so, with maybe one or two likes. Until someone would click the link eventually, and then it would explode, and in less than 120 seconds the entire World would know about it, and 357 videos on YT would pop up all dated two weeks earlier with all the story spoilers and playthrough videos. xD

Yeah, I think that The Dig was too much like a movie (and not a comedy, despite having some jokes too), and too little like a bizarre LucasArts game, and people ignored it. Every system that I have has Broforce on it. Do I play on all of them, or even Broforce daily/weekly/monthly? No... @ really looking forward to the forthcoming Fable but I know what you mean, it has a lot to live up to & we do have to manage our expectations. As your friend proves, there’s no such thing as enough money, just a more expensive view of the same problems.
Ha ha ha :) Aren't we all? And also, age is just a number AND an artificial concept that we've created based on how the planet moves around the solar system. We shouldn't feel the need to follow what someone decided thousands of years ago. :)
You know, I did wanted to put Dark Forces in the video... But since I've cut it to 25 entries I've skipped it. But, there will most likely be a follow-up at some point. :)
I never really appreciated Simcity 2000 during it's time... possibly because I was like 5 when I played it and the most I got from it was "I like summoning natural disasters". Diablo though? Just click away, and it all works out. As long as you remember to heal and acquire higher and higher numbers, but I could handle that kind of math. Also man, Screamer. THERE'S a name I haven't heard in a long while- felt like the PC's answer to SEGA Rally and Ridge Racer, but it just fades away. Wonder what happened to the developers of that game?
Actually, believe it or not, but Milestone s.r.l. are still out there and making games. They’ve made MotoGP 24, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 and Ride 5 among others. Sure, these may not be the games that I play, but they’re still there even today. :) And no, I didn’t know that. Your question sparked my interest.
@@OldAndNewVideoGames ... And as informative as this comment was, I wasn't expecting them to then go and tease a NEW Screamer game at the game awards, so I guess we're really aware of what the developers have been up to lately!
No wonder, it's a gem! :) And yeah, I kinda sorta, don't know why, but I do, prefer it to Skyrim. Odd sounding sentence perhaps, but I'm leaving it in. xD
Some good choices, but I have to disagree on one: The Dig. How does anyone replay it when no one played it the first time around! (Even though it came free with your CD Drive) But seriously, I think The Dig is the one of the biggest overhyped blockbusters of the Multimedia era. The game is all there on a technical level, but it lacks the warmth. Of the classic LucasArts adventure games, I think it is at the bottom. (Also, I would like to be part of the A-Team. I can shoot near people).
Oh man... It's funny but also bit sad. The Dig's not the best adventure game that came from Lucasarts, but it's exceptional nonetheless, and feeling more like a long-ass movie than a game... And it failed sooooo badly. I get what you mean, and I think that the warmth you mentioned actually plays out to what I said. As in it being a movie. It was made like one, and not like most of their games, that were always quirky, filled with jokes, popculture references and absurdity.
Yeah I was never into the point + click adventures anyway. The only two I ever finished were Legend Of Kyrandia 2 and Simon The Sorceror (and I didn't enjoy the latter). But I remember "The Dig" being super hyped and from what I've seen and read about the game, it always looked interesting - if you're into those kind of games.
As I said in the intro, they're games from 1990 to 2015, which is 10 years before 2025. However you wanna look at it, 10 years is old for a game. :) That said, I understand where you're coming from as I often too look at them and think "but it just came out the other day". Turns out, "the other day" may be quite a few years ago. :)
Alpha Centauri, great game game, change a few settings in the .ini file and almost unlimited movement etc! Freelancer has a great mod called Crossfire!

SimCity 2000... right on! I like SimCity 3000 a little more, but 2000 still has a place in my list of games to play.

Ha ha ha :) Aren't we all? And also, age is just a number AND an artificial concept that we've created based on how the planet moves around the solar system. We shouldn't feel the need to follow what someone decided thousands of years ago. :)
Don't forget the STAR WARS Jedi Knight games :D
You know, I did wanted to put Dark Forces in the video... But since I've cut it to 25 entries I've skipped it. But, there will most likely be a follow-up at some point. :)
pros for Colonization, cons for Alpha Centauri. The latter is just pale. btw. all in all good list
Thanks! :)
The Settlers 1 or 2 are def. missing from that list. Otherwise a good selection.
Thanks! And yeah, I couldn't fit them all. Perhaps in the follow up. :)
Ocarina of Time is the ONLY Zelda game I've ever completed. I quit team Nintendo soon after and joined the PC Master Race.
Well, if you had to pick one Zelda game back then, you couldn't have picked better :)
You know what needs a reboot sacred
it kinda does, you're right.
Replay Sim city 2000, Deus Ex and vice city? Never stopped
That's the spirit! :)
agreed in all of the gamnes ,especially the fact you went with hl 1 and not 2, and gta vice city and not the overrated san andreas
Thank you!
Way to play Colonisation or all dos games is over pcem17 and Munt for mt-32. Pcem17 hardware emulation of gravis is also 👌
Good point! DOSBox is not the only option.
oblivion my first game of this series, replay it multiple times :)
No wonder, it's a gem! :) And yeah, I kinda sorta, don't know why, but I do, prefer it to Skyrim. Odd sounding sentence perhaps, but I'm leaving it in. xD
SNES Brain Lord
Some good choices, but I have to disagree on one: The Dig. How does anyone replay it when no one played it the first time around! (Even though it came free with your CD Drive)
But seriously, I think The Dig is the one of the biggest overhyped blockbusters of the Multimedia era.
Old ? :D :D :D :D cmon.
@@OldAndNewVideoGames is not :D :D like 1995 is old. 2015 is new game. :D
OoT has not aged well.
We have very different tastes overall.
Oh well, at least we can agree on one other thing. Your epic username! Love it! :)
MGS too
Oblivion is a bad game. Play Morrowind.
I like them both.
Do yourself a favour and WATCH "The Dig" instead of playing it, it is really not that good and the ending is really dumb.
Alpha Centauri, great game game, change a few settings in the .ini file and almost unlimited movement etc!
Freelancer has a great mod called Crossfire!
Oh my days! I totally forgot about the ini file... YES! You sir, just brought back some memories... xD
