One of my best friend, Mr. Ruben Alvarez, I love this guy and he's also an excellent musician/percussionist/drummer, in Afro-Cuban Jazz and other genres.
Thank you very much for this informative video! I bought the same Guiro that you use and had some fun with it, it's such a nice instrument but thanks to you I know now how to play it properly 😊
Why can’t we get away from calling these accent INSTRUMENTS toys!!! Especially when being demonstrated by a professional. They are NOT toys people, they are instruments!
I bought some of these instruments for my studio and my step son said to me don't you already have those sounds in your computer I told him yeah but it ain't nothing like that natural sound
It is very difficult! Drums/percussion can sometimes appear simple, but the technique and execution is anything but. I will end up practicing for hours with JUST the guiro, and then JUST the tambourine, in order to really dive in and devote yourself. Put the time in and the results will come.
this is great! Do many percussionists prefer the plastic guiros? I'd think the traditional "wooden" (gourd) would sound nicer...but I'm just a trumpet player!
Her Ruben, it’s Michael, how ya doin, nice to see you. I took a few lessons from you in Chicago back in the 80s, remember. I’ve used percussion on gigs and recordings since then. You sound great man.
