Happy Thanksgiving to all my viewers and supporters! I'm thankful for each and every one of you that watches these videos, supports my channel, and provides business to my stores. It's because of you that I get to do this!
I remember seeing brass engines in the model train dept. at EJ Korvettes department store when I was a kid in the 1960s. I loved looking inyo the glass display cases. Thanks for sharing that.
M.B. Klein's was THE brick and mortar model railroad stores in Baltimore, located in a repurposed warehouse in a sketchy part of town. In the 00's it relocated to a bustling office/industrial business park in Cockeysville and continued to flourish. Over time it became less welcoming, "shrinkage" forcing them to a non-retail, "shop our catalog," business model. In 2020, the owner passed away, and his family had other priorities. Attempts were made to find a buyer to keep it going, but it seemed all the would be buyers were looking to absorb it into their operations elsewhere. Current searches get redirected to Model Train Stuff, a mail order outfit out of North Carolina. There are more than a few "whatever happened to..." web pages that can be sought to get a deeper dive on what occurred.
Great finds!. I have a few Bachmann Doodle bugs. The axle gears cracked after 10 years of use. I found geared replacement wheel sets available from Northwest Shortline not long ago. They are kind of costly.....but they are VERY worth it and I recommend them. They also carry new made ,geared replacement wheels for the double motored Bachmann GE 44 tonner. Back on Nov. 23rd i went and found a brass 15 ton Climax Class A "Tee Boiler" locomotive at my local train show. Paid 75 bucks for it. runs well too. In my experiences w/ brass trains i discovered that "Budget Brass" is something to be cautious with. Some companies sold trains that were actually "Brass coated or plated" sheet metal, then painted gold to hide the solder and actual finishes. I found this out, when i went to remove the clear coat on a "brass diesel" ,only to find it was coated, pressed steel w/ brass coating.
I'll take that CofG boxcar as I model the Central of Georgia railroad. I have several brass engines and they are all painted. If I were to get a brass one I'd definitely paint it. I definitely prefer brass over plastic even BLI. Cheers from eastern TN

Awesome video. Very nice models. If you open another store, come to Clarksville.

For me it depends on the engine.but getting them painted can cost as much or more. But I enjoy the process of painting them.
