Do you know what you can seal a basswood/tissue guillows model aircraft with? I want to brush paint it with testors enamel but need to seal it first I think.
Ultranitro, if you haven't encountered it yet, there are still producers of aircraft nitrate dope; I think SIG hobby suppliers still provide it....or maybe Brodak is still around. I 'have' seen it some of the larger hobby stores--Google should help. Personal suggestion: I lived in WA state, where I could still purchase Xylene easily at hardware stores, incl. Home Despot & Lowe's--I'm currently in CA where they banned it for the usual 'Carcinogen Risk' hazards, although its not as bad a substance as M.E.K. solvent. Cut to the chase: I used xylene as solvent/thinner for Polyurethanadhesives...Gorilla Glue & 'Great Stuff' expanding spray foam. It works exactly the way alcohol & acetone work on epoxy resin--thins it to a thin, 'sugar water' consistency. Not a 'false' thinner, as many people have recommended water and/or ethanol + Gorilla Glue for thinning it over the years--UTTERLY WRONG, as these enhance its foaming action cure! I 'doped' stick & tissue builds with it, as well as sealed & reinforced cardboard...until it had the rigidity & behavior of medium grade balsa. It is now my preferred sealant, along with lacquer sealer. Its water proof and adds a hint of elasticity to tissue-covered models; I flew amidst blueberry bushes often and after landings in them my planes rarely had punctures & tears. I was pretty amazed. One caveat: you MUST paint over it OR pre-'tint' it with a colour paint, small amounts of latex, acrylic or enamel mixed in. sunlight degrades it & it will turn tan, then brown...then dark brown & crumble with age otherwise.
If the dope spraying dope causes repetitive blushing, your dope is probably smoking dope. To correct this problem, run a glass of dope remover through your dope sprayer that is spraying your blushing dope and then find a smarter dope that doesn't smoke dope while spraying dope. If the new dope spraying dope is a fat dope, use a dope thinner or remove all the water from the fat dope spraying dope while raising the dope spraying room temperature to 110 degrees Fahrenheit for one to two weeks to thin the dope so the dope spraying dope can spray dope properly. Just remember, never use a dope that is too fat if you want properly sprayed dope by a dope spraying dope and, never let your dope spraying dope smoke dope while spraying dope. Your dope spraying dope should be of a fine condition if you follow these easy rules of a dope spraying several layers of dope because, it is not rocket science...…. it is dope science.
How old was he when he died of emphysema or cancer? Whew!!!😱
Too bad they didn't know about respirator masks back then. Those poor guys, breathing all those fumes and finishes.
What is the origin of the term "holidays" for bare spots?
Not a clue.
cat eyes
A painters holiday is referenced to a lazy painter, who leaves bare spots in his work.
I learned the term “holiday” when I worked as a painter in 1980. It just means a lazy job with missed spots.
Superb !!!
Cool video but why does the title say "Model R/C aircraft" ?
ultranitro Thank you for watching, the technique applies to both real aircraft as well as radio control.

ultranitro I remember it was called Dope and it was a clear highly volatile stuff. Look it up. Sure someone still makes it. Have fun.

I made it by myself thanks to woodprix plans. I think it's the best way to learn how to build.
