I grew up poor AF too and my family NEVER bought us costumes. I wore hand-me-downs from my aunts (dresses/old costumes/my own school clothes) then sprayed my hair with some cheap pink spray tint and carried my pillowcase that I wrote "trick or treat" on so they'd think I tried at least a little. 😂 I know the rich folks were like "The poor kids are here time to turn the lights out..."🤣🤣🤣
I used to be a witch every year because we only had black bags ( garbage bags) to make our costume and a paper witches hat with wool for hair. Everyone was either a witch or a ghost because you only needed an old bed sheet for the ghost costume. Loved every minute of it though, Ireland in the early 90s was brilliant!
My mother thought going to the store to buy costumes was the dumbest thing she ever heard.

My word, some of those costumes are pricey! Just shows how much markup you can put on cr** if the season is right. In the UK, people usually dress 'scary' and when I was a kid, witches, sheet ghosts, and your old school uniform ripped up to create a zombie outfit were the go-to looks. You are so flipping funny. Your videos are perfect watching on a Monday

I had something similar happen. I found my bio dad’s kids on FB. I had 2 bro and a sister. I reached out to the oldest brother because I was not sure if they knew I existed and the others siblings were not 18 and crickets for MONTHS, almost a year! I found his wife on FB and reached out to her because it seemed too weird that he did not respond. I got a text from my brother immediately so incredibly excited!!! He did not see the notification email that he had a message. This was early days of FB. Do NOT take it personal!! She would not have a 23 and me account if she was not curious and you may be surprised one day when she reaches out ❤️❤️ she really may not have seen the notification and will see it when she logs in who knows when. I only check mine every 4-6 months. In the meantime, I will go bowling with you 😂

We weren’t super poor, but we NEVER bought a new costume. Thrift shops all the way, and making our own. I took that into adulthood and have put together some great costumes. My kids had the choice most of the time. I could make it, or they could pick it out. I made most of them lol
We were the same my Mom git out her makeup and instant gypsies or bums ! Or ghosts too of course stain in the back lol 😅
We had the cheapo character costumes with the plastic mask and elastic string and the little nose whole to try and breathe. The kicker was we had to buy them at least 3 sizes to big because we had to wear out winter coats and snow pants under them. Had to roll up the pants and sleeves and since the material for the costume was so slippery, we spent the entire time keeping the legs and sleeves rolled up!

When I was a kid, we had those rubber/plastic character costumes, with the plastic masks with those thin elastic strings to hold it on your face. Sometimes, the mask didn't have a mouth hole, and the nose holes never felt big enough to breathe well (≧▽≦)
My family was too poor for Spirit Halloween. We did dollar stores and thrift stores for Halloween... which was super fun! I loved it.

As kids we never had store bought costumes. Mom could sew and we had the best costumes.
Lucky mine thought she could sew and we were poor so I had costumes made from the clearance remnants! Let’s just say that I got used to the question of “ oh and what are you supposed to be?”
I take my kids to a consignment store to get all their costumes. I let them pick out whatever they want to create their own design. Cheaper and sometimes they can wear the clothes afterwards. Spirit Halloween, is SOOOOO overpriced. You are so fun, I love these videos.

I feel you on the sister thing! I don’t know my half siblings or family from my dads side. The people I have connected with were not very receptive liked I hoped for. In my mind we were going to be this new big happy family, reality hurts nut we move on.
One year, my mom took a white sheet to make me a ghost, but she cut a big hole in the center, so it was more like a white poncho. I cried. 😢

I wasnt allowed to be a ghost, there was no way in H E double LL my mother was going to cut up her sheets...lol had the plastic shirt and plastic masks and my dad actually created some awesome costumes for my brother and I. I am not poor yet because I don't buy costumes😅😂They cost as much as regular clothes, and you use them only one day. I grew up in Europe so we celebrated All saints day on Nov 1st. No costumes required or needed, just candles😊We went to church and after that to light the candles at our loved ones and family members graves.
