- Teddy Ruxpin & Grubby toys appear on this episode of Pawn Stars, "Late Night Chum". I just happened to catch Pawn Stars on July 31, 2012, and luckily caught a rerun of this episode!! Sorry for the poor clarity, but it's my cheap cable.
Believe it or not, a 20-something college kid in 2005 argued with me that the 1980's Teddy Ruxpin wasn't that big, and there was no "yellow thing" back then either. Obviously, he's too young to remember the 1980's, but I'm not, I was 9 when they debuted, and yes, BOTH Teddy Ruxpin AND Grubby debuted in the mid-80's. He thought his early-90's Teddy was an 80's Teddy, obviously taking the stance since he didn't remember, it wasn't true. Kid, if you ever see this, take it from someone who LIVED the 1980's, THEY WERE BOTH AROUND IN 1985!!!
They didn’t show everything in the collection. It was teddy, grubby, 3 fob puppets and every single tape with matching books in original packaging, as well as a couple outfits. And I did have the original boxes, they were just too much to carry so they gave me a tote to put a couple of the things in so i could carry it. It would of taken too long to put everything back in their proper boxes
I ended up donating it all to a children’s hospital that saw the show and wanted them to read to the kids.
I noticed that the top piece of Teddy's mouth wasnt moving. Was yours the model with the silver cassette deck & 3 servo motor?
I just swa your post on Quora so had to come look at this haha, thanks :-) and that was nice of you to donate!
Just read your comments on Quora. Thank you for sharing. Happy you donated them to a children's charity! Hope all is well and take care.
Same
I read your quora post which brought me to this video and hence forth this comment.😮
I'm here after Quora😊
SAME lmao
THE TOP JAW AND EYES ARE NOT MOVING!!!!!!!!!!! THIS REALLY GETS INTO MY NERVES!!!!
I've noticed that too, that lady seems kinda stupid and dont realize it's not working properly
NO FR SAME😂😭😭😭
As of this comment, I just bought an original teddy ruxpin at goodwill for $15
Well, I'm luckier. I once found an Original Teddy Ruxpin for $4AU ($2.75US) at a local charity shop here in Australia. Had an original cassette tape in it, and it works perfectly! I also found an original Talking Mother Goose from the same toy company, with the same technology, from the same store, for the same price, at the same time. Not a bad score!
I remember having a teddy ruxpin as a kid and this brought back so many memories :)
Teddy had his mouth open because of that outrageous price tag
The market isn't there yet. Does that go for all toys from the 80s
This woman appeared on a Quora post that questioned if Pawn Stars was real.
Omg 500 there only worth 200 at the most with the tape and book she's crazy
Actually they're about $150 apiece. She had Teddy AND Grubby. Teddy was reproduced several times but Grubby wasn't. $300 is a good price for just the dolls. But with all the tapes, $400 was pretty fair. But the shop is a business, they gotta low ball to be able to in turn, mark them up to the price they're going for. That's the problem with pawn shops, they rip you off because they gotta make money too....they pray on the needs of the sellers and hope they're desperate enough for money.

:) Awesome!

I know a great deal about things from the 80s
They are actually worth alot more than 150, especially with all the books and stuff. He went less because he didn't want to pay the amount they were actually worth.
The pawn shop needs to make money too, otherwise they wouldn't last very long, when you sell to a pawn shop you can only expect about 60% of what they are going to sell it for because they need to pay their employees and rent.
As far as what the pair is worth, well she said they were working but I didn't see the eyes or upper jaw move so only one out of three servos, certainly not a perfect working example.
First of all teddys upper jaw does not work. 2nd of all it doesn't even show teddy blinking. 3rd of all for a complete set I can only see them going for 350.00.
I actually own 2 teddy and 2 grubby and we only paid about 115.00 us dollars if not less and they both are fully working and I still own the boxes. I also own all the outfits and alot of the cassettes.
I HAVE THEM WITH ALL THE BOOKS AND TAPES INCLUDING ALL THE OUFITS AND THE ORIGINAL CONNECTOR CORD AS WILL!!!

These aren't difficult to get for a good price if you're patient enough. I've passed on plenty of local and eBay listings from people that think they have gold. In reality there's not that big of market for them so don't bid against yourself and just let the overpriced listings rot.
I was able to get a working Teddy Ruxpin in the box at a flea market for $20 and I just bought a working Grubby in the box with seven books/tapes with the cord off eBay for $60 shipped. Most seller's have no idea how or whether these things work so make sure you're comfortable taking the risk with whatever you plan on spending.
Who’s here from Quora
It is a very difficult to get these vintage pair working together. The connection ports on BOTH have to be good, you have to have a good connection cord (they are also 30 years old and the wires get frayed and brittle), you have to get six different servo motors working (eyes/upper/lower mouths, then you have to have a good cassette player that isn't worn with belts and rollers replaced. I have refurbished/sold about 12 sets and trust me it takes a lot of work. I also have sold over 400 world-wide Teddy Ruxpins (vintage that play cassettes from 1985).
+Dana Allen Is there a way to get them to work without the original cable? I've seen a guy on youtube that converted them to usb. Seemed a bit too involved for me. I cant find a cord for under $40 just see if they might work together.
Awww I miss mine my sister tore its head off
The issue is those two barely worked in animation, teddys mouth only moved I didn't see his snout or eyes move, and grubby did nothing
People were not getting into fist fights for Teddy Ruxpin. They were getting into fist fights for Cabbage Patch Kids.
That’s my cousin right there
And surprisingly enough, the fact that hers still worked makes them even more valuable. Grubby wasn't talking because he wasn't part of that particular song...he only talks when he's part of the story. She should definitely hang on to those...they are going to be a big collector's item someday, because there are so few that still actually work. Most of the ones you see on ebay don't blink or have a moving mouth, even if the tape deck still plays, so they get sold for parts. I had three Teddy Ruxpins when I was little in the late 80's...I just loved mine too much and he kept breaking, so my mom had to keep calling the company to replace him because he wasn't as durable as she'd hoped. Now...I'm thinking I'd like to find a working one, or maybe two, if only to have one for my kids when I have them, and one to pass to my goddaughter.
The most durable ones are usually the first generation ones (metal tape deck, rubber nose)
they have a new one that's softer
awesome episode dude!!!
$500 and he doesn't even fully work!! ZAMN!! I only spent $30 for a nearly fully working Teddy in 2022!!
Never sell a working teddy ruxpin & grubby set for only $100!!!
They are worth at least $300 - $400 working & with tapes!
Look around on eBay
+80sRockafireFan
It's true though, price them in working order on eBay.... People sell them for around $300.
The items are vintage, rare & are difficult to find in working order. Just one teddy in working order would be around $150.... People don't know the value of them because most only see a toy bear instead of researching what they are worth nowadays.
@Its Gorb The Octopede! exactly, I got a perfect condition 1985 teddy ruxpin on ebay for $35
@@Pocketmouse1990 watch the video again, teddy ruxpins eyes and upper mouth didnt work so they weren't in perfect working order
His top jaw don't work!!
No such thing as a top jaw, jaw means bottom mouth.
I didn't see eyes move either.
@Boopity-Bop yo its Nolan
500 for the set no
200 maybe
100 sure
at the most 50 each grubby having the cord then sure
lullabies tape and book maybe 20-30 in that condition
id kill for that grubby though i have a frickin addiction
this woman is crazy wanting to sale them - and plus her teddy ruxpin aint working right his eyes dont work and the uper part of his mouth dont work i see - and i see her grubby dont blink - she might as well keep them.- I have 6 teddy ruxpins and 1 grubby for now.

Why??
Bros speaking Gaster
I have seen the HD version on tv. The episode was on tv.
Was Grubby even plugged into Teddy?
idk
This is a super old comment but maybe someone else wants an answer but Grubby doesn’t have any speaking or singing parts in the story tape she was playing!
Top jaw is broken on teddy.
It's not broken. His motors have seized up from lack of use, but that can be easily fixed.
oh
Found set teddy and friend w book n cassette today
Goddamnit I had that as a child same as a lunchbox and a backpack...Damn I miss being a kid in 1986...Cartoons were so innocent instead of that Japanese slaughter bullshit for some critter...*pokemon /bayblaze" shizzle...
If these toys were in high demand at that time, can you imagine how the Amiibos would be like in 20 to 30 years? Since they are in High demand now, especially with scalpers on the loose.
+80sRockafireFan i agree with you 100% ;)
8 years later, I mean, yeah they are a little there, depends on which one
@@NOTB666-p7v yeah i keep tabs on em. I have em all sealed still but for sure those big 3 were no joke. But it was to see that there were a few that became a little easier to get now.
Quora bought me here
I got teddy ruxpin at a antique shop and he still. In mint condition and go grab me to from the flea market in mint condition
i have a teddy ruxpin wanting to sell it. what is it worth? i know its more than 100 dang!
That woman really thinks she can give those toys to her kids?
...
_(Right now everyone plays with iPhones get out of the 80s. But no offence x3)_
Yes,they're entertaining toys,
Corey is wrong. People were getting into fist fights for Cabbage Patch Kids. I never heard about the same situation for Teddy Ruxpin.
Teddy ruxpins eyes and upper mouth didnt work plus no original box so you're not getting 500 crazy lady
A teddy ruxpin isn't worth 500$!! It's worth one or two hundred Dollars!!!! I'm not paying 500$ for a teddy ruxpin!! That's Bullcrap.
Even $100 is way too much. Patience pays off when it comes to Teddy Ruxpin stuff.
