Well… first off it’s ’sci-fi’ from ‘science-fiction’
Secondly it mostly has to with the fact that it is so damned old, you see a similar thing in europe as you see in japan, tho our traditional music seems to be more associated with 18th century classical rather than our folk stuff
Also Japan is like that bc it’s both really advanced and horribly behind in other fields
I could explain the thing but that would take a few paragraphs
